Watching the March madness bracket breakdown and they’re saying that Kansas and Oklahoma pose the biggest threats to Gonzaga to making the final for and go on to disregard iowa saying how the zags “destroyed” the hawks and “ran them off the court”. I know they were pretty much run off the court in the first meeting, but Iowa’s Adj def went from ~130 to 51 and they’re extremely battle tested. I’m not saying if the zags-hawks matchup happens that hawks are definitely going to win, but everyone including our own fans seem to chalk it up that we couldn’t win that game. It would be a different kind of matchups this time around and hopefully in the hawks favor. GO HAWKS!

Right now, Iowa should be worried about just 1 team and that's Grand Canyon.
They have some legit post players that are 6-10 Jr, 6-10 Sr, and 7-0 Sr that weighs in heavier then Garza.
This matchup is not going to be ease by any means and if Iowa doesn't play better then they did the last 2 games they might be the 9th 2 seed to fall to a 15 seed in tournament history.
GC has played some good competition and has not been blown out all year. At least in my mind it won't come down to the Network going to another game because the out come was determined by halftime.

if memory serves, didn't we shoot horrible and still hung around for most of the game? tia

My point was less of me saying that matchup is going to happen and more just befuddled at the lack of respect that iowa is getting.

Lol we play like we did in either of the last two games we win by double digits. There’s a lil bit of a drop off between Illinois and GCU.

Next time that they mention iowa is saying that they’ll be upset by Oregon in the round of 32. I wanted to enjoy selection Sunday by hoping there would be some recognition for this great season that they’ve had, but it’s the exact opposite...sheesh no matter the seed nothing changes for iowa in the eye of the media.

Coach Norman Dale : "There's a, um tradition in tournament play- not talk about the next step until you've climbed the one in front of you." Quote from the movie "Hoosiers"

Seriously? You make it sound like GC has a bunch NBA bigs playing for them. So do you honestly believe these guys are anywhere near the same level as Dickenson, or Kofi, or Robbins? If so why are they playing at Crand Canyon for christs sake. That fact that they're 6-10 or & 7ft doesn't make them great, and we have a 6-11 285lb guy on the bench as well. Is he a legit post player as well at this point?

Grand Canyon is not as good as Wisconsin. Not even close. I can't see this game even being close but just my opinion. After looking at their games and scores I'm pretty confident in a blow out.

Correct. In the KenPom rankings they are below Nebraska. Anything can happen. Nebraska did beat Rutgers (who is not as good as Iowa). Nebraska did take Illinois to OT, which is just an example of the type of thing that can happen between teams of these relative caliber as Iowa and GCU. Iowa wins barring some weird stuff happening.

I'm not arguing with you, I'm just stating that Iowa was not given the easiest 15th seed, they will not be a pushover by any means. Just putting it out there.

Don't think anyone is saying this but if their biggest player was 6'7" I would be feeling 99.9% good instead of 99% good. Size alone doesn't stop Luka Garza, but a lack of size makes even slowing him down almost impossible.

I will say their big looks pretty decent. He was a Wichita St transfer so had some high caliber interest at one point.

who cares what the talking heads say, they don’t play the games. These guys are wrong quite often.

Shouldn’t be any problem getting to the sweet 16. But at that point Kansas seems like a bad matchup to me. Outstanding defensive club, maybe the best in the country over the past month, with three really athletic big wings (6-5 Ogbaji, 6-5 Thompson, 6-8 Wilson) that are all projected to be drafted (who can match up with them?!?) and a capable post defender at 6’10 and 265 lbs in McCormack. Have to be on from 3 in a big way to overcome the deficit in athleticism IMO.

If Iowa doesn't beat GC handily I'll be shocked. The only way Iowa doesn't win by double digits is if the Hawks simply fail to show up.

This is why I say it's time for Iowa to make a national statement. Time for the nation to take notice of the Iowa Hawkeyes. This is the team to do it, if it's ever going to be done. This is the time to make a run. Feed Garza until somebody stops it, otherwise, start launching 3s with Weezy and the boys. Then, when that gets their attention, go back to Garza. Play that surprisingly good defense the last 6 weeks or so. Gonzaga didn't see that defense and they didn't see this version of Weezy. Time to go take some respect, fellas!

Kansas won’t make it past USC. If they do, they have absolutely nobody that can guard Garza. A bad offensive team but solid on D. Exactly what you don’t want to be if you’re gonna play Iowa. We can worry about the zags once/if we get past Monday.

This is the least talented KU squad Self has had in forever. They struggle to score. They have certainly gotten better defensively, but this team doesn’t have 2-3 sure fire NBA players like years past. Hawks would be favored by 3-4 pts I’m guessing if it came to pass.

I have watched USC as I have fallen asleep several times this year. They have a good freshman. That. Is. It.

They do flop a crap ton so I am a little worried about that.

I'm going to expect the worst and hope for the best. Iowa and tournaments haven't exactly been friends over the last 20 years.

Mobley is a great player, but he is thin. I wonder how he would do facing Centers like Garza, Kofi, HD, and Robbins. He would be giving up some serious weight inside. He can make up for it with his athletic ability a bit though.

Iowa always seems to be the popular upset pick. I remember everyone saying Davidson was going to beat Iowa in '15. Iowa won by 30.

There are no guarantees in the tournament, but this Iowa team is capable of making a run, and let's not all crown Gonzaga champs just yet like all the talking heads were doing last night (I know, they are just predictions, but jeez, you'd think Gonzaga is the '96 Bulls).

It's not that easy for any given team to simply go out and win it all. I've seen a lot of great teams go down. 1991 UNLV, 1999 Duke, 2015 Kentucky, etc. Iowa could definitely (IMO) beat Gonzaga if they play their best game. Iowa shot like total crap the first meeting and has learned to play a bit of defense since then.

Don't win big games and you won't get respect.........

And I would like to leave room for future amendments, that if you play a top team closely (like Ohio State vs Illinois yesterday) you will maintain a little more respect than if you get beat straight up.

Wilson might be out because of Covid protocols. Also this draft is way off. Agabaji and Wilson are second rounders at best and Thompson isn't on anyone's boards right now.

Iowa would be favored my more than that. USC would be a closer line.

True, but I wouldn't want to play Self with a week for him to prepare a good game plan.
