I know we can’t look too far ahead but...

Iowa always seems to be the popular upset pick. I remember everyone saying Davidson was going to beat Iowa in '15. Iowa won by 30.

There are no guarantees in the tournament, but this Iowa team is capable of making a run, and let's not all crown Gonzaga champs just yet like all the talking heads were doing last night (I know, they are just predictions, but jeez, you'd think Gonzaga is the '96 Bulls).

It's not that easy for any given team to simply go out and win it all. I've seen a lot of great teams go down. 1991 UNLV, 1999 Duke, 2015 Kentucky, etc. Iowa could definitely (IMO) beat Gonzaga if they play their best game. Iowa shot like total crap the first meeting and has learned to play a bit of defense since then.
Heading to area to watch first rounds. Best place to watch Drake Thursday night?

Mobley is a great player, but he is thin. I wonder how he would do facing Centers like Garza, Kofi, HD, and Robbins. He would be giving up some serious weight inside. He can make up for it with his athletic ability a bit though.

This depends on how the game is called. If they allow physicality then it doesn't bode well for USC. For once, it may help us.

Grand Canyon is very poor defensively down low. Their best strategy would be foul Luka using their trios of bigs, and hope that he has a poor game from the line. Weezy should have a field day taking it to the rim. They like to up tempo. We should get out and go with them, and wear them down with our bench. They might hang with us for awhile (after all, they beat the legend Alford....). But I feel this one will be over shortly into the second half.

This is GCU's first trip to the NCAA's, right? We've played in Indy quite a few times and doubt they have. We're there already and they have to travel. Exciting for them, but believe once the excitement decreases, our experience should kick in for a double-digit win. USC's biggest guy is 6'8", I think, and KU's had s couple of guys/team missed extended practices due to COVID.

Grand Canyon is one of the slowest teams in the nation. They 295 out of 347 D1 teams in possessions a game. They don't want to run at all and that's exactly what Iowa needs to do. Their big guy is a slow plodder so Garza should be able to set up good post position in transition. If half court sets, Iowa will have all kinds of success putting their big guy in pick and roll situations where Garza can step out and take a three. If Garza is hitting his jump shots, this will be over quickly.

The key is to take away the Cinderella notion early and often if you can. Let teams hang around, bad things man.....

All three of their bigs are foreign born players, but only two play and they are their two top scorers. Only one of them have any pounds on Garza. Their third scorer is 5'11" and 155 pounds and leads them in assists and steals.

My point was less of me saying that matchup is going to happen and more just befuddled at the lack of respect that iowa is getting.
If I was a Hawk fan I'd rather they enter the tournament getting disrespected rather than overly hyped. Playing with a chip on the shoulder is better than swagger sometimes.

The writeups I saw said Gonzaga has easy path to Final 4 because they've already handily beaten the #2 seed Iowa and #3 seed Kansas. This should be good motivation for Iowa, assuming Iowa actually makes it to Sweet16 or beyond.

Iowa might make a run, but I also remember the Uthoff/Jok/Gesell/Clemmons/Woody team struggling to beat a lame Temple team. Hard to predict which Iowa shows up and long history of disappointment for Iowa fans. The nice thing for Garza is he will finally be facing centers that haven't played him before and know all his moves.

Being just a fan, I can look as far ahead in the bracket as I care to.
While it's not impossible, losing to grand canyon would be a monumental f@#k up.
I'm expecting a matchup with oregon in round 2.

That Iowa team was a 8-9 seed. So not like we were the 2 seed playing a 15 seed.

This is the least talented KU squad Self has had in forever. They struggle to score. They have certainly gotten better defensively, but this team doesn’t have 2-3 sure fire NBA players like years past. Hawks would be favored by 3-4 pts I’m guessing if it came to pass.
This. I said early in the year when people were talking them up, that i'd love to play them, and still feel that way. They'd have no answer for Luka what so ever.........

Wilson might be out because of Covid protocols. Also this draft is way off. Agabaji and Wilson are second rounders at best and Thompson isn't on anyone's boards right now.

The speculation is they’ll be back after the first weekend if they beat USC. Self said yesterday the 3 will join the team in Indy later this week.

There are a lot of rankings that have Agabaji going in the late first round and Thompson in the second including reputable mainstream sites like CBS sports...

McCormack is 6’10 265 lbs and athletic and Self said yesterday he should be back for the 2nd round. If It’s their least talented team ever why do half the mock drafts out there have 3-4 of their guys getting drafted? You don’t finish top 5 in defense playing in the 2nd best conference after the B1G without a lot of elite athletes.

I expect to see luka feast up until the elite eight (if we make it there) but I don’t expect the hawks to lose because of Lukas performance. Gcu has tall guys and I think one is averaging around 14 and 9 rebounds, but it seems that he doesn’t have a high motor based on what people are saying because I haven’t watched any of there games. Oregon and vcu are both small teams. Kansas as you said doesn’t have anyone for luka and if usc makes it, while Mobley is an extremely talented freshman, I think luka I don’t think he poses a cockburn or Dickinson level challenge that luka struggles with at times

Mobley is a top 5 NBA pick.

Mobley is a top 5 NBA pick.
You people just don’t get it. He’s young and has good nba potential, at the same time he’s a freshman going against one of the best collegiate bigs in recent history. Garza has played better bigs than Mobley. Doesn’t mean that they’ll be better in the nba, but they’re better in college. It’s like how Garza is one of the best players in Hawkeyes history, but probably won’t be the player with the best nba career so it goes both ways. If garza puts up less than 20 on Mobley I’ll be beyond shocked.

Watching the March madness bracket breakdown and they’re saying that Kansas and Oklahoma pose the biggest threats to Gonzaga to making the final for and go on to disregard iowa saying how the zags “destroyed” the hawks and “ran them off the court”. I know they were pretty much run off the court in the first meeting, but Iowa’s Adj def went from ~130 to 51 and they’re extremely battle tested. I’m not saying if the zags-hawks matchup happens that hawks are definitely going to win, but everyone including our own fans seem to chalk it up that we couldn’t win that game. It would be a different kind of matchups this time around and hopefully in the hawks favor. GO HAWKS!
"We" are fans and have zero impact on the outcome of games. Look ahead to the national title if you want, it won't matter.

Completely agree, but as you know some people will get their panties in a bunch if we even look ahead of the game right in front of us.

I will say their big looks pretty decent. He was a Wichita St transfer so had some high caliber interest at one point.
Okay, but I'm pretty sure he transferred because he wasn't playing much and averaged about 1 point per game. He may be a decant player, I just don't think he'll stack up with the guys that Luka has faced most of the season......
