I love that Michigan won!

I dont love that michigan won bc it means Iowa didnt, but i know what you mean. If not hawks at least it was new blood. Taking my fandom away I think its good for the sport when there is more parity among teams. Michigans first big ten championship since 1974. Thats before gable went dynasty mode with the hawks

Team race to Michigan. Was hoping it would be Iowa but things didn't go our way. Do you think that Kevin Jackson had much input in bringing this team to a higher level?

No disrespect to Kevin Jackson, but Suriano coming in mostly and Brucki to some degree put them over the top and in a position to win. They already had a pretty deep and experienced team. Credit to Michigan, they got it done.

All of this is a moot point if Spencer Lee was healthy. Iowa wins and Suriano is a runner-up. But it wasn't meant to be apparently.

And PSU tied for 4th at B1Gs in 2020 when any rational person knows Iowa was running away with the title and should be back to back defending champs.

And, had that happened, Iowa would not have Desanto/Eierman/Kemerer on this years team which means they would have been lucky to place top 5 at the B10 tournament.

Still looking up at Penn State. Iowa took third in a two-team race. That was a horrible Big Ten tournaments for the hawks and made worse by all the MFF. "Come on man"
Man, I keep seeing things like this take, even being used about Iowa's performance at NCAA's. I think many fans are too "fanatic" and don't have realistic expectations.

Newflash: Iowa was NOT supposed to be within 20 pts of PSU and Michigan had the tournament of their ENTIRE EXISTENCE. I mean, they hadn't won B1G's since 1977.

Still, with a ton of injuries, including no fricking Spencer Lee, they scored(129.5) losing by 13.5 to Michigan and 12 behind PSU. In contrast they scored 159.5 to PSU's 124 last year. So, this performance would have beat PSU last year!

On top of all this, Brands obviously did what was best for his wrestlers and didn't chase bad money trying to win B1G's.

But, by the numbers, this is actually a very solid performance(which got all 10 guys to NCAA's.):

125: 8th-Ayala even with a MFF He wrestled well simply losing to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers.

133: 2nd-DeSanto wrestled his butt off again, but taking down RBY is almost impossible.

141: 2nd-Eierman was very beat up and still did what he was supposed to do.

149: 3rd-Murin actually overachieved taking 3rd from the 4 spot and wrestled Sasso well again.

157: 4th-Young ran into his Kryptonite in Berge. That is now 3 in row. Just a terrible matchup.

165: 1st-Marinelli owned the mat. Dislike the tactics in the Finals all you want, but he was never in danger.

174: 6th-Kemerer gutted out the win against Smith and sitting him from there was what HAD to be done.

184: 7th-Assad simply looks burnt out. Still, he is going to NCAA's and could score much needed points.

197: 4th-Warner lost to basically the same situation as Young. He has now lost to Brucki 3 times in a row and is 1-4 against him, total.

285: 2nd-Cass found a way to win over Kerk, that I didn't see coming with that little time left. Injured or not, he wasn't beating Steveson.

It was going to be a dog fight between Iowa and PSU with Mich a couple notches back. Mich actually preformed like they were early season expected to preform. They got it together. Had Kem been healthy enough to continue, Iowa very well could have won it still.

for me it was because starocci’s comments that occurred right before brooks got beat. karma.

Same. I like Brooks and seems like a good kid but Carter's comments were pretty arrogant. He is a hell of a wrestler but he could learn to be a bit more humble. I thought RBY, Nick Lee and Myles Amine gave perfect interviews. Its not that hard to say I just beat a great wrestler who pushes me to be better.

Cass beating Kerk was one of the best finishes I've seen to a match, I was sure Kerk had that won. It was like an action hero defusing the bomb with 1 second left. Congratulations and kudos to him. That was the one I look at that lost it for PSU ( I'm a grad and fan).

That was cringeworthy to me, Run your mouth after a win ( team I mean). It just looks dumb when your teammate loses ten minutes or so later.

The guy doing the interviewing was incredibly annoying and asked really stupid questions. Ray, I think it was.

Actually, on paper, Iowa was the favorite. Had Kem been able to go the whole time, Iowa would have been right there. Ayala didn't get awarded the takedown against Barnett that would have put a lot of points on Iowa's score.
