I think Ivory K Mart is going to be this years best back

I say this because the kid has explosive speed and if the line blocks like we all know they can it’s lights out and no ceiling for him... don’t get me wrong Young is going to be a beast but overall I think KM will overtake the show this fall in IC

I like IKM too but I can’t help but wonder if statements like yours are realistic and accurate..

if the line blocks like we all know they can it’s lights out

I do think we have an above average line in the conference but it’s not like we are Wisconsin churning out massive yardage and TDs on the ground almost every year. We lost our 2 best lineman in Daniels & Welsh so there’s no impact to those losses? The young tackles are very promising but that’s only 2 spots. What else is really there for next year?

I’ll point out our rushing attack with Wadley and his amazing talents netted him just over 1000. That’s pretty weak for a ‘lights out’ line. This team was 4-5 last season in conference. What’s that say about the OL?

Last year was weird in the fact a Kirk ferentz oline kinda seemed better at pass blocking then run blocking which ik isn't saying much since the pass blocking was abymal at times as well

Daniels did not do real well vs purdue or wisky. Not sure he was real hungry after he punched his nfl ticket after the ohio state game. It happens i am not blaming him. Jimho. With all the millions on the line these days you cant blame people after the team suffers three loses. They need to protect themselves from injuries.

With Stanley, Fant and what should be an improved WR's corp keeping the D off balance an average run blocking line should be good enough. However I think both OT's will take a huge step forward this year, and we have three other line prospects that should be able to step up and do a decent job. It isn't like they don't have game snaps as I believe the guards and center all have experience. Last year was new offense and now they have a year under there belts, so hopefully it clicks.

We also had a new offense new oline coach and a first year OC last year. So a lot of learning going on. Things should improve some in 2018 and more so in 2019. Most power five teams dont hire a first time OC and oline coach in the same year.

I like both backs individually. I love them together splitting carries.

If I had to lament any specific item about last year's offense, it was the coach's lack of pounding with Young. Iowa missed an opportunity there imho.

There will be growing pains with the backfield for certain...but I like this year's mix more than last year with the group once they gain experience being "The Backfield".

That they underachieved and that Daniels should've come back to help Iowa win a national championship.

The last time Iowa lost it’s starting tackles during the year 2012 and 4 and 8. Going 8 and 5 with 2 freshman tackles, two 2nd year te a freshman wr and a judo wr against one of the toughest schedules in college football..... last years team weathered adversity and did well.

This year they should have some thunder and lightning in the backfield.

You know, people get on the coaching staff for the teams under achieving, especially since 2009. We are not going to be the kind of team that can just reload year after year. However, I don't think people realize what a RB mess Iowa has had to deal with since then. No one expected Wegher to bolt after his freshman year, or Adam Robinson to be booted from the team. Then we had Coker be excused after he was showing promise. Greg Garmon left after his freshman year and Injuries set them back. I mean, Mark Weisman was a good Fullback and read blocks decent and did an admirable job, but there is no way we would have used him as a tailback had we not been forced to. Now, it seems like were recovered from the early part of this decade and the stable looks adequate and promising. So I am optimistic that Iowa is on the rise. This years line in my opinion will be better then the last. There is youth but experience, we have good backs and what should be a better passing game. KOK is bring stability back to the QB position, and the new coaches are not new anymore.

McCall kid too after he was looking promising and then broke his ankle early in the season

I think you nailed it.

Iowa wasn't balanced offensively last season, for many reasons, and that contributed mightly to the lack of yardage on the ground.

The type of back the OP and other posters are describing is exactly what we had with Wadley. So talent at running back wasn't the problem.

For me it starts with the OL. They were lousy at pass protection much of last season. That's the first thing that needs fixed. Two, I expect more consistency from Stanley, particularly on the deep ball. I also hope we will see him more decisive in running to pick up 1st Downs when necessary. Last, I think this is the year we finally see WRs making plays downfield. I expect both Smith and ISM to step up this year. That doesn't mean I'm expecting either one to have 1,000 yard production, or anything like that (frankly I don't think Iowa needs that type of receiver to be successful), but I do think we're going to see more explosive plays in the passing game. Noah Fant we know about.

If those things happen, and there's reason to be hopeful they will, then the running game should take off with either running back. To be honest, I have a feeling Iowa will surprise a lot of people this year. We'll see.

Part of failing is starting with the attitude that you're gonna fail.
I doubt Barry wakes up every January and says, "Welp, we can't reload. Time to return to the bad ol days before I was in charge."
I thought the whole point of improving the recruiting classes each year was to reload?
The "I'll lower your expectations" fans are the fake Hawkeyes. Funny how they label others what they in fact are.

I doubt Barry had to deal with RB issues quite like we had in the beginning of this decade. Wisconsin has had some RB injuries, but hasn't dealt what Iowa has. Do you seriously think we should have been much better from 2010 until 2015 with the RB issues and starting a FB at tailback two of those years? C'Mon man. You cannot seriously say that those issues did not set this program back a few years, can you?...LOL

Well, I don’t have a crystal ball to see and I am going off a hunch.. I guess will all wait and see what happens but to answer your question... I couldn’t tell you.. but let’s see how it unfolds this season and come back to this question

That’ll be a tough game for you guys opening up in Kinnick.

It will be tough but as long as john taylor is healthly buckie should win again. 66 yards. Super oline blocking by the hawks that day for sure. Buckie is dealing with dline injuries though.
