I think Ivory K Mart is going to be this years best back

I like both iowa and wisc. That way i win a lot of west titles. I will be torn on sept 22. If the hawks win it more power to them.

Sorry but where did I ever compare IOWA to Wisconsin in this thread? Unless someone hijacked my post but hey, I totally agree with you that Wisconsin definitely has gotten the job done better THUS FAR compares to the Hawks

Here are team rushing stats between Wisconsin and Iowa.... it’s not even close or debatable who gets the job done in the trenches. We run a more balanced system so our overall rushing yardage can be explained but check out our yards / attempt. That’s a yo from a supposed strong OLs?

2017
Wisconsin ranked #15 with 2979 yds @ 5.1 avg
Iowa ranked #94 with 1709 yds @ 3.9 avg

2016
Wisconsin #26 with 2843 yds @ 4.3 avg
Iowa #64 with 2234 yds @ 4.5 avg

2015
Iowa #35 with 2544 yds @ 4.5 yds
Wisconsin #88 1954 yds @ 3,8 yds

2014
Wisconsin #3 with 4482 yds @ 6.9 avg
Iowa #59 with 2120 yds @ 4.1 avg

2013
Wisconsin #8 with 3689 yds @ 6.6 avg
Iowa #42 with 2339 @ 4.2 avg

2012
Wisconsin #11 with 3309 yds @ 5.2 avg
Iowa #106 with 1476 yds @ 3.7

2011
Wisconsin #11 with 3289 yds @ 5.4 avg
Iowa #76 with 1790 yds @ 3.9 avg[/QUOTE]

Fair enough. I brought Wisconsin into this discussion to show you what a great offensive line does and that we are not nearly as good on the OL most years as the narrative always tries to make it seem. I am not saying we are poor on the OL either but far from dominant. The best rushing finish in the last 7 seasoms is 35th with a 4.5 avg. Many seasons including last season we were downright poor. The reason I brought this up is in response to your comment about IKM and ‘line blocking like we know they can’. Well at best that is blocking with a 4.5 average and the #35 best rushing offense in the nation. Is IKM going to show that well if that’s the best we can do blocking wise? We also lost our 2 best interior lineman in Daniels & Welsh. No one sees an issue coming?

Everyone in the country knows what Wisconsin is going to do and they do it anyway. That shows domination. They don’t need tricks or gimmicks either. We need to get there and we are a ways off yet. I hope Young and IKM break out but I’m concerned about our line.

I like IKM too but I can’t help but wonder if statements like yours are realistic and accurate..

if the line blocks like we all know they can it’s lights out

I do think we have an above average line in the conference but it’s not like we are Wisconsin churning out massive yardage and TDs on the ground almost every year. We lost our 2 best lineman in Daniels & Welsh so there’s no impact to those losses? The young tackles are very promising but that’s only 2 spots. What else is really there for next year?

I’ll point out our rushing attack with Wadley and his amazing talents netted him just over 1000. That’s pretty weak for a ‘lights out’ line. This team was 4-5 last season in conference. What’s that say about the OL?
Our O line is clearly the most overrated aspect of this team on a yearly basis. We are still a long ways away from the phrase BF likes to use, “Bullies of the BIG 10”.

We have good lines usually with a star but the notion that we dominate up front is a little overblown. Wisconsin dominates up front.

Forgive me for going off on a tangent here but it's hard to dominate when the defense knows exactly whats coming > 75% of the time. This is mostly an issue with teams we face regularly but particularly UW. UW and PU blitzed the living shit outta us last season and its hard for 5-6 guys to block ~ 6-7+ especially when they are stunting and scrambling the gap rotations bc they know it flusters our zone scheme. Not the players fault. It is our tendencies and predictability that are to blame. I know BF is striving to change this so we are not predicable but it will take a while bf he figures it out. I think he will eventually. He showed moments of genius and moments of confusion when trying to break tendencies.
Also, whenever we face UW we are also facing B. Alvarez and he knows this program inside and out. He knows KF's philosophies, schemes, and tendencies better than anyone in CFB. If KF had been willing to make adjustments and counter what was working for Becky over the years the head to head record would be different. What is so frustrating to me is that he hasn't, and we in the stands and those watching on TV can see it plain as day. Unfortunately the last 10 years the UW coaches ( Alvarez ) have coached circles around KF and if anything he has made it easy for them. Our OL should be dominating like UW but doesn't. This is the single biggest problem ( among some others ) with his coaching during his tenure at Iowa. Predictability.

p.s. B. Alvarez's last game against Iowa was on of my all time fav's! Sending him out with a home loss was pure joy. I can't stand him or that program so it's always a sensitive subject for me. Rant over: my apologies.

I'm also a big fan of both IKM and Young. Totally a thunder & lightning dynamic. I see them basically splitting the carries. IMO IKM is gonna be special. All BIG10/AA type of back. The total package. If they can land Goodson then wow we are stacked again ( see Goodson's film? ). If they also get J.Wright who I presume is a RB plus Giel/Sargeant in the stable I think we see Evans and Harrel move positions. Sampson to WR and Harrel don't know but that's a lot of backs.

I think that Toren will be a stalwart for the Hawks .... however, if Ivory can hold onto the ball ... he has the potential to be a '02 Jermelle Lewis sort of contributor for us.

I say this because the kid has explosive speed and if the line blocks like we all know they can it’s lights out and no ceiling for him... don’t get me wrong Young is going to be a beast but overall I think KM will overtake the show this fall in IC

I definitely think IKM is a good back, but I think he is going to end up complimenting/supplementing Young really well; Young has that workhorse feel to him though, like Shonn Greene did.

I am hoping we use the passing game, especially to our 2 incredible TEs, to set up the running game. I want the Hawks to be a showcase for TE production the way that New England was when they had both Gronk and pre-murder Hernandez.

Line up 2 or 3 TE and run over people. When the safeties cheat up, slip Fant and/or Hock behind them on a play action pass. The key is to keep the defense guessing in a formation like that. 50/50 run vs pass. Here is a good start: on the first audible of the year, make it a play action pass to a TE. Even if it is incomplete, Kinnick may give a standing ovation like they did a few years ago when we had a FAILED FG attempt.

Once you get the safeties heads spinning and not knowing which TE to cover... slam it down their throat with Young and then blow by them with IKM.

It is so rare to have such a productive and deep TE corps like we will have this year. I am really hoping that since BF was in New England at the time that he is able and willing to feature the TEs. I remember being backed up on our own 10 vs OSU on a first and 20 after a block in the back on the kickoff return. Two identical plays to Hockenson right down the seam. 1st and 10 in OSU territory.

Against OSU, every offensive TD went to a TE or fullback. (Hooker’s pick six on play#1 was the other). Smash mouth football, baby!

IMHO, the Hawkeyes will go all Ohio State (you know, 55-24) on poor Bucky to open the Big Ten campaign in Kinnick on Sept. 22. I am hoping BF and KF will have a game plan to turn the tables on Wisconsin. I know if I were those fellas, I'd have been game planning for that contest since the calendar turned to 2018. There is no doubt the Hawkeyes owe the Badgers a major whoopin', and I just feel like it's gonna happen this season. No proof. Just faith.

Stick with the Badgers. They need you to raise the mean IQ of their fan base. You are dragging down the mean IQ of Hawkeye fans.
