I was wrong, I was wrong, I was wrong. I can't recall a time in my life when I was ever so wrong about a game. Wow. So glad to be so wrong.
I was wrong about Wadley. He's an NFL back.
I was wrong about BF. He called an amazing game.
I was wrong about the players. They looked talented, confident, and laser-focused.
I was wrong about the coaches. They got the team ready to play in a way I couldn't have imagined.
I was wrong about Ohio State. That was more than a hangover game. Even when Ohio State was playing their best in the 1st quarter, Iowa looked like the better team. And Ohio State quit like a bunch of entitled bitches.
I was wrong about the offensive line. They dominated.
I was wrong about the defense. They contained Ohio State and even dominated them from midway through the second quarter on.
I was wrong about the team being inexperienced and needing time to gel. They may very well be a great group when it's all said and done.
That was easily the best game I have ever seen an Iowa Hawkeyes team play. Ever. Where the hell did THAT come from? I will never doubt Iowa at Kinnick against a good team. They may lose those games again, but hard to count them out after this given the way they limped into the game.
Now the test is to see if they can do this on the road. Are they still too young to put together good performances against top competition in back-to-back games? Can they take that offense on the road with them to Madison? I'm excited. And nervous. Hopefully Iowa doesn't end up with a hangover, but either way Iowa won their Super Bowl for the year. I doubt I'll ever see Iowa beat Ohio State like that again in my lifetime. Or maybe any other team. To paraphrase Jim Lampley when he was talking about Manny Pacquiao in one of his earlier bouts: That was a hurricane, a tsunami, incomparable gridiron violence; they're making Ohio State look old, slow, like a sparring partner.
I may be able to ride this high all week. Wow.
