He has major flaws, like recruiting and defense, but he has done a good job of taking a unit full of MVC-level talent and turning them into the top of the B1G Ten in scoring. His team overachieved this year winning 22 games.
To say he is horrible is ridiculous. Lickliter was horrible. Fran is better than Lick by a long shot.
If iowa doesn’t make it this year I will 1. Shit myself and 2. Want to get a new coach

Of course there are teams that would consider Fran. He has proven four different times that he can take a bad program and rebuild it to the point of making the NCAA tournament.

It does seem to be a nice catch all. I see you using Lick’s recruits to make your argument against Fran. I’m sure a better coach would have came in and went to the tournament with Brommer, Archie, Cully Payne, FR McCabe, FR Marble, SO May, Cole and Gatens....

Lehigh was 12-19 and 4-23 before Fran.
UNCG was 7-20 and 9-19 before Fran.
Siena was 6-24 and 14-16 before Fran.
I think we all know where Iowa was at before Fran.

I won’t elaborate but I know for a fact that Fran has had opportunities to coach at other Power 5 schools since he came here. I also know for a fact he was advised by some pretty influential people not to take the Iowa job because it is hard to recruit here. Fran wanted the challenge and thankfully he took it.
Maybe you guys would rather have Tim Miles. Nebraska has way better facilities than we do and look what he has done there. He might get fired pretty soon.

You could count on one hand the regular members here that are more connected than Hooper.
He's not going anywhere. And he would have opportunities. Iowa could have done a LOT worse than what we have had with McC. A lot of the proposed coaches in the last search ended up doing pretty poorly at their next stop, with some getting in hot water for cheating. Be careful what you wish for...
Fran passed on seton hall and St. John’s for iowa. I’m glad he did.

No P5 AD is going to his BOT with a plan to pay at least $3M per year to a 60 year old coach who: (1) Has never done a single thing of note at the P5 level*; (2) Has a reputation as a loose cannon w/r/t anger issues; (3) Can’t recruit; (4) Can’t coach defense; and (4) Would be bringing not just one but TWO of his buster sons along for the ride to soak up schollys.
It would be certain career suicide.

For reasons that shouldn’t need to be explained to persons of average intelligence, MOST coaches take over struggling programs. Yes. MOST.
