He already has one for all intensive purposes* as he's signed through age 65.
Does * indicate an intentional wob?
Why?!
Its not the staff that has a lifetime contract. He's led us to 3 11 win seasons. Hes 60 years old and I believe has been here for a total of 26 years? He's a true Hawkeye and will always be. That doesn't mean he needs to be 80 and coaching. But if hes competitive I want no one else as our coach. Why would you ever Box yourself in. Human nature is what it is. That's like giving to much assistance to the poor. They take it for granted and why would a coaching staff be any different. Penn State anyone.
I year does not excuse the last 5.
And the ten years before that?I year does not excuse the last 5.
As long as he maintains the intentsity* he's shown this year, I could live with it.He already has one for all intensive purposes* as he's signed through age 65.
Why not? A surprise NC at Iowa would excuse a whole lot IMO.I year does not excuse the last 5.
Why?!
I think he would get 5 more years but with all kinds of *french benefits.Does * indicate an intentional wob?
No, no it doesn't. He'll get a few more years to take him into retirement. Nobody should ever get a lifetime contract, ever!****kk yes it does.
I would be fine with extending him but we need to be careful with the buyout - we shouldn't give him a ton of guaranteed money beyond the $10m we already have - simply because he's going to be almost 70 before the next contract ends. Pay the man 6 million per year, we can afford it
I can handle 7-5 season's, but repeated 3-9 seasons would be a problem.
Here's the thing though, other teams know his contract is up in 2020 too. We are going to start running into the "Don't go to Iowa because Ferentz won't be there for your whole career" issue. That's what destroyed South Carolina and Virginia Tech too. Hayden ran into the same problem at the end of his career. The bad part is it won't show up right away because it doesn't hit a team until seniors leave and there is no one to replace them with. I'm really interested to know if there is a transition plan or if Kirk wins the National Championship this year he just retires a week or two later.
****kk yes it does.
Yea, we'll probably only be able to get a bunch of 2-3 star athletes!
