If! If!!! UofI wins the NC, KF gets a damned lifetime contract and...

Why would you ever Box yourself in. Human nature is what it is. That's like giving to much assistance to the poor. They take it for granted and why would a coaching staff be any different. Penn State anyone.
Its not the staff that has a lifetime contract. He's led us to 3 11 win seasons. Hes 60 years old and I believe has been here for a total of 26 years? He's a true Hawkeye and will always be. That doesn't mean he needs to be 80 and coaching. But if hes competitive I want no one else as our coach.

If he wins the National Championship he can stay as long as he wants. After he retires, we will put up a statue and name the field after him. Hell, we might even have a FerentzDay too!

I would be fine with extending him but we need to be careful with the buyout - we shouldn't give him a ton of guaranteed money beyond the $10m we already have - simply because he's going to be almost 70 before the next contract ends. Pay the man 6 million per year, we can afford it

I can handle 7-5 season's, but repeated 3-9 seasons would be a problem.

Here's the thing though, other teams know his contract is up in 2020 too. We are going to start running into the "Don't go to Iowa because Ferentz won't be there for your whole career" issue. That's what destroyed South Carolina and Virginia Tech too. Hayden ran into the same problem at the end of his career. The bad part is it won't show up right away because it doesn't hit a team until seniors leave and there is no one to replace them with. I'm really interested to know if there is a transition plan or if Kirk wins the National Championship this year he just retires a week or two later.

Lifetime? This ten year deal had been a disaster til this year! I love what's happening and I hope he has turned the corner...I still flashes of the old KF when we get the lead and still lacks that killer instinct. A few years of continued improvement I see no reason not to extend, NOT after one year!!!!! Huge mistake!

I have been as hard on KF as anyone else. If he wins the a national championship, he should decide when he's done.

IMO, it is a truly exceptional person that would work hard when they know money is coming in, regardless. Doesn't matter what walk of life we're talking about. In his case, KF works his ass off, but he also knows success on the field is part of the deal. I'm a big fan of his. So. I'm in favor of extending his contract at its current rate, with a minimal buyout, and heavily incentivized.

Yea, we'll probably only be able to get a bunch of 2-3 star athletes!

If he wins the NC, he can write his own check as far as I am concerned.......and, he can have my wife for a couple of weeks :)

Jesus some of you are nuts. It somehow continues to surprise me......

Kirk doesn't seem to be the type that would coach more than a few years. The money or contract has nothing to do with it
