This one game could mean a million dollar raise at another school when they come poaching. No way he stays at ISU. So this one game means millions for Campbell

You didn’t think this hot take deserved it’s own? First I’ve heard of the subject.

He's going nowhere. Get over yourself.

Maybe in 3-4 years sure, but he's locked in by choice for the short term. It would cost anyone 9 million in payment to ISU just to get him, plus the many millions he'd command in his own pay and bonus. More importantly, he's a builder...does not want to go into an NU or a Tennessee or Florida type situation....nothing short of Ohio State or an Alabama level job would lure him away. Might lose an assistant or two, will grant you that.

I don't want of there asap! What a bunch of idiotic fans! Booing for punting from his 25 w/ the lead? That was too good....

Do you know him personally? How do you have any clue what he wants?

It doesn't take Karnac, you just have to listen to what the man says. And, unlike many in the business, he's a man of his word...and a man with clear vision of what he wants to build right where he's at. This goes way beyond the usual coach speak, and its what sets Campbell apart from most coaches.

No doubt, he will move on one day, but it will be AFTER he's achieved what he wants to achieve at ISU. He was dead serious when he said he intends to compete for national championships...that's a ways off yet, obviously, but he is building for the long haul and the man has a plan.

None of this will convince you of course, and you'll just proclaim he's uttering coach speak or you claim..."what else would he say?". And that's fine, believe as you will. Time will show the man's sincerity though, and only time will show you what he's really about at Iowa State.

Doubt he'll move on after this season. He's obviously only going to move on to a much more prestigious job. Is he a serious candidate for Florida, Tennessee, Nebraska, SEC West? I don't know.

Meh, until ISU proves that it isn't a stepping stone then I'll believe he's in it for the long haul. I think he'll be around next year, but after that it's up in the air.

Hard to believe he keeps wanting to stay if your fans keep booing him!
Maybe he stays, maybe he doesn't, no one knows atm(probably not even him)

For the right job/offer he's gone(unless isu makes him an offer he can't refuse). If he doesn't get that, he'll stay.

Two words. Full of fear. Full of envy. Empty of thought.

Doesn't take much to make some fans rather full of themselves.

I think ISU is going to have to show a little more consistency in their resurgence before anyone is feeling any fear or envy.

Hey, my team just got a huge win. How shall I celebrate? I know - I'm gonna lurk over at another team's internet message board and wait for just the right moment to use my razor-sharp wit to make a nuisance of myself.

Oh man, if Florida or Tennessee come knocking he's gone. Those are much better jobs than ISU. Lets see where do you have a great history, large fan base, rich boosters and a fertile recruiting background? Don't worry though he won't be called, calm down Francis. He's having a good year so far, got a great win. Lets hit the brakes on his coronation though.

Just dumb for ISU fans to quote him. Yeah most coaches say they plan to leave at the end of the year. Are u kidding? Guys he is gone. Herbie knows more than anyone in college football. And when he says "he gone" my guess is he knows. If he stays great. But stop with the "he is building a program" "he loves Ames" "he couldn't be happier with the administration and the fans." Jesus - he is not going to say, "I like it here but if Tennessee or Florida or UCLA or A&M or Arkansas offers I will consider it." Come on guys. Whether he stays or goes using his current quotes about ISU and Ames is beyond dumb.

He may end up leaving but they do at least have a $9Million buyout if he leaves at the end of this year so that could be a roadblock.

I have heard Tennessee is interested in Petrino so that would take one job away and I don't think he leaves for Arkansas and I'm not sure Nebraska in the current configuration of the B1G West is as attractive a job as it once was. I wouldn't want to see him offered the Florida job and since he is more of a Midwest guy I'm not sure they would. I kind of doubt West coast teams would come after him either.

Ya big12, pac12 are out; sec, acc not likely. Maybe big 10 osu or psu, or notre dame, 5 years down the road.

And I thought we had delusional fans.

Wow.

Herbstreit doesn't know anymore than ISU fans do. Fans who are thoroughly convinced one way or the other are hilarious.

I imagine Cambell will be a top candidate on a lot of lists of other schools. One thing to consider is the Big 12 sucks as a conference and the SEC, Big 10, and even the ACC would be places Cambell could win a NC easier than the Big 12.

And I thought we had delusional fans.

Wow.

C'mon! What's hard to believe about Iowa State having the only FBS head coach who doesn't give the press lip service, is perfectly content to live life in the upper middle class in Ames, giving up gagillions elsewhere, and will be leading the Cyclones to a national championship?

A lot.

But I've heard the "he's staying without a doubt" spiel from ISU fans quite a bit, from Chizik to Hoiberg, so their batting average is bound to improve sooner or later.

Campbell may decide to stay and be an icon like Bill Snyder is at Kansas State. Iowa State has a lot going for them, a full stadium and a wealthy alumni willing to pay big bucks.

He is going to take Florida SEC money, no state income taxes, sunshine, recruiting and ride into the sunset.

You do realize Campbell is only getting a little over $2 million per year and the $9 million payout doesn't get him a penny?
$9 million spread out over a 5 year deal at a SEC or Big 10 gig is nothing.
HE gone

Isn’t that every coaches job, or is he the only one the country that speaks the truth when he says it?

Nobody knows what Campbell would do with a prime offer, including Campbell. Certainly not anybody on this board.

Although it irritates me, I can understand why people assume he would use ISU as a stepping stone, given the various histories. I think some of the critics, especially some here, have an inaccurate idea of what jobs would be better, though. Just one example: I don't think Nebraska is a better job at this point, because of the pressure and the unrealistic expectations. Average 9 or 10 wins a game and get fired? How much is that worth?

But I don't think it's realistic to think Campbell would leave after this season except for, maybe, tOSU. There are just too many reasons to doubt that scenario.

Iowa State has up-to-date, top-notch facilities. It has the third largest stadium in one of the P5 conferences. It is willing to pay a lot of money. Expectations are not terribly lofty. It's a good gig.
