Let's hope IKM makes some good progress recovering. Looks like the injury big is already biting. Hope we can stay healthy.

Also said a couple more are "dicey". The guys who left the game on Saturday for periods were IKM, Ross, Welch, and Hockenson.

Call me "glass half-full" but I didn't see any Iowa guys laying on the field like NIU had. Dings & tweaks are inevitable parts of the game. No ACL's or compound fractures, so that's a plus.
Very good point. NIU needed triage units the way they were going down.

Ross's looked kind of bad on TV. Not sure if it was a full dislocation but he couldn't put much weight on it coming off the sideline.
Someone in a different thread said they thought it was a cramp and that some of our other players were giving him a hard time about it coming off the field. No idea if this is even remotely true since I haven't re-watched it, but that was what someone saw. I personally thought his leg/foot was pointing out sideways a little more than you'd expect form a cramp.

Sideways cramps are quite common

One downfall to actually playing a full game is getting guys hurt. ISU didnt run that risk. I’d pry still take actually playing a game over not playing but it’s a factor.

It's always nice to be at full strength, but once the season starts that's rare and a luxury few enjoy.

Hope he can play, but if there’s an area we can afford to take a hit it’s RB. Saturday was a small sample size but it looks like we have more talent and depth there than we’ve had in a long time.

I think that if he doesn’t play, it could be fairly significant. Even though Young had a nice game, IKM seemed to have a little more wiggle(I thought). I was actually impressed with how he was able to stay on his feet when it looked like he was stumbling. Only problem was we seemed to hold on every decent off tackle run he had.

2002 was as close to a season without injuries as you'll ever see. FB (who later became a good DT) broke his arm. That's about it.

Easy to forget that Aaron Greving was actually supposed to be the starting tailback coming off his Alamo Bowl MVP performance the previous year. He was hurt before week one and barely played before leaving the team, although he stayed in school.

hoping they hold him out to let this heal maybe even the UNI game. with the new rule of 4 games and keep their RS this means that Geil and Evans should get carries.

I thought the idea was to rotate the carries between the 3 RB's, we shall see.

And still a die hard Hawkeye fan.. it never affected his love for the hawkeyes

TV showed IKM was walking around perfectly after the game, shaking hands with no visible signs of injury.

Not saying he wasnt dinged, but I suspect he will be ready to go.

Geil got reps in game 1 too. I expect that our RB depth could get pushed this season. As others have expressed ... hopefully Ivory heals up sooner rather than later! Of course, it's not good to rush it either ... because a RB running on a bum ankle is rarely a productive RB.

Not really. They way things have gone with RB's around here better knock on wood with that kind of statement. I think IKM might be alright to play but we def don't want him hobbled all year.

Trying to remember why Aaron left the team? It gets lost because Russell & Lewis quickly became stars in his absence.

If I remember right he had some minor injuries that kind of lingered, but mostly just lost the love for the game. I had a couple cousins grow up with him in Ames and met him quite a few times when I was younger, really good kid. Like quite a few college kids, really liked the Devil's Lettuce and got dinged for it a few times.

Ankle and hip injuries. Kirk left the door open for him to return, calling it a "break" from football should he feel healthy enough and want to return later on. I'd forgotten that he missed spring ball also, so it was just a case of all those injuries adding up. I just remember a lot of "fans" hating on him because he left before the Michigan game, and they thought it was selfish and a distraction when that couldn't have been further from the truth.

IKM should rest this week and next because they’re unimportant games against unimpressive opponents. Have him ready to go for Wisconsin.

Welp, I guess more Sargent and TOREN.

I would go with plan and hold IKM back until it’s better.. ankles are touchy and sometimes you can soilder thru it but sometimes you can make it worse by not resting it.. the sooner he rests it the more likely he’ll be pain free during conference play..
