THIS! The "culture" at illannoy is toxic and eternal. Look for Mad Brad to hit the trail sooner, rather than later. Rumor has it he'll land at either Kansas, or Kansas State before the posse catches up to him for his very dirty dealings. A fitting ending would have him leave the ill whine eye under probation, if not the death sentence. He's a crook, just like the rest of 'em.

Keep dreamin’. You guys need a new line, man. Being blinded by hate like this makes you say dumb shit. Underwood isn’t going anywhere, and neither are good Illini teams. Get used to it, again. Hopefully, Iowa stays good too and the series can remain exciting.

i kinda thought it slipped off the rails with the cockroach balls and buffalo dick posts but you draw the line at trading Ash for Ayo?

I meant the whole thread I guess but yours caught my eye. Not a coach in the country besides Fran would make this statement because well.... it's just silly. I realize you probably only said it in self defense but that doesn't make it any less ludicrous.

Well then you can just suck eggs, dog ass, cock roach balls, donkey ass, and buffalo dick (did I miss any) too then.

Naw, statistically Garza was MUCH better. Even though Ayo missed a few games they still played about the same minutes with Luka scoring over 150 more points. Hey but Ayo did have twice as many turnovers though.
stats aside, how come iowa was 3rd again withthe best player in college?

Like I said, I don't at all disagree with the choice. And I appreciate the effort with the stats on defense but they really can't truly reflect an individual player's impact on that end of the court.

Garza is much more efficient, probably gets the most out of his abilities than any player I can think of over the past few decades. But Ayo does rank in the top 10 of something you can't measure - clutch plays, winning plays, killer plays.

Fair enough. It is nice to have a civil disagreement without name-calling. Although if Iowa and Illinois meet in the semis, I might change my mind :)

Measuring defense is much harder than offense, no doubt. But things like rebounds and blocks do count, and Garza is good at both of those. If we're left with the clutch play thing, that's where I'm just going to have to part ways.

Ah yes, the Illinois “culture” of Jimmy Collins, Lou Henson, Bill Self etc. Or just the “culture” that Underwood ran from after OSU. Or the “culture” that had him hire one of the nation’s notorious bagman. You must be so proud.
Ah, the ignorance on full display. The issue at OSU was that Evans was directing players to agents to play in the NBA, and Underwood wasn't a part of that. It's exactly the opposite of helping your program to steer your players away from the program for personal gain wouldn't you say?

Generalizing Illinois fans here, but what's interesting to me is they seem to be so cocky and without recognition of shame that their program has been a mediocre Big Ten team really since their 2005 run. Most Iowa fans acknowledge their place away from the front of the Big Ten line at least. And Iowa fans have their own numerous problems at times too. You should expect Michigan State fans to have massive egos. They've earned it year in and year out.

This Illinois team is great. But like Iowa, both programs haven't earned that Big Ten union card. Let both IL and IA pull together multiple top 3 BT finishes before either of our programs can respectively anoint ourselves the deans of college basketball.

Not completely accurate.

Look, I think Garza was very deserving and have no problem with him winning.

But Ayo is one of the better defenders in the conference. Garza is a liability on that end of the court. Voters don't really consider that very much, but when you bring up the STATS! argument, I'm going to point out this hypocrisy.
Garza's efficiency was better 35.1 to Ayo's 24.6, and that includes defensive stats. Not sure what your point is.

No way their fans can bitch and blame this on the refs. Every “controversial” call was clear as day on replay.

I'm always amazed, whether its at Louisville, Arizona, KU or wherever, and people claim the assistants are doing illegal recruiting or paying players and the head coach has NO knowledge of these acts. You have to be totally ignorant, blind, or 4 years old to believe that could happen at ANY major program behind the head coaches back without him knowing full well. Just sayin........

He sure looked the part today... 😂. Oops he just fumbled the ball away again sort of like the poy argument.

I'm sure Underwood and every other staff in major college basketball is involved in gray area recruiting. I haven't been told his name explicitly, but I know it's the name of the game in recruiting. My buddy/ex-roommate coached at IMG Academy, another nationally ranked program, and is currently on an SEC staff. Literally every kid on the program was getting "help" from a college in one way or another. It's the nature of the game. The higher profile kids start becoming shady recruitments not because kids are getting money, shoes, jobs, cars, etc., but because they have people surrounding them that are also trying to get as much as they can even at the recruit's expense. Frankly, some of those people are just completely ignorant about the avenues they should be taking to get paid.

Most people outside of the sporting community really have no idea what cheating looks like. How it's funneled through AAU programs, how kids are given gear to resell on their own, how money is funneled into the community where a kid is brought up. A large part of it is not explicitly against the rules, but the head coaches stay hands off despite knowing about it for self-preservation.

Yes, Illinois/Underwood "play the game" (all Big 10 teams are), but if you're going to call out cheating, be accurate. You better get used to kids getting bought too. NIL is making it easier and more transparent than ever, and Illinois already is legally advertising how much they'll have the ability help kids make.
