Sure wish kennedy could make 157. Its an inconsistant weight that I wish iowa had another option at.

We have Reyna (4x state champ, S32 Champ) , Caleb Rathjen, and maybe Aiden Riggins (if he doesn't redshirt) all waiting in the wings for next year.

Young has been an AA each of the past 3 seasons. That’s pretty consistent, isn’t it?
I agree. Next time I resolve to read all the words before responding, but for now I'm still going to assume that he's worried for next year since KY has not been the weakest link.

I guess the way you just said that made me giggle and agree that is consistant Spooner. Your point is a good one. I just feel if there is more inconsistancy at 157 then 165 or 174 and should have worded that better. Im sure he is where he is at for good reasons so wishing he could cut down doesnt mean much on my part.

Kaleb Young is a treasure and deserves extremely high praise for his sacrifices and dedication to the program. Special young man. Hope he can put it all together for a big run this year and get the respect, admiration, and place in Hawkeye history he deserves.

I’ve seen Young and the Bull workout at practice. Those two get after it and it’s closer than one might think. Young is the guy who makes the big cut to make the team better and because he loves to compete. Unless Grothus or Slayton come back, Young can make a deep run in Detroit.

Young not only has been consistent, but has been a complete beast and leader by example! He has shown incredible ability to maintain weight at 157 when his natural weight should probably be 174.
He has also been to the semis and was one takedown from the finals. Then last season gets screwed and he takes a loss 3-2 from Berge that had the match of his career Yet still wrestles back for 7th in what I thought was the deepest weight there was.

I have no particular issues with Kaleb Young, he's tougher than Wang leather (you'd have to be to marry a Brands daughter) and the young man has been a damn good Hawkeye. But after being around this long I think what you see is what you get with him, and if he doesn't find more offense somewhere a deep run isn't in the cards. He's very solid, that's commendable in and of itself.

But go ahead and prove me wrong and win the whole damn thing! 🙂

The young shade continues. Never understood why so many on this board crap on the guy so hard. He has moments that aren't ideal during the season, but has he ever lost to someone who is truly bad? His results at ncaas are consistent. He isn't a world beater but a tough guy with a lot of heart. As others have mentioned, his ncaa record is noticeably better than Marinelli.

"He isn't a world beater but a tough guy with a lot of heart". That seems to be the general consensus from my viewpoint.

I think the brush you're using to paint this picture is considerably wider than the reality. But to each his own.
