After looking at a couple of OSU games, I would say we should should run a lot of 2 TE sets (maybe even 3 at times) with a FB (if Kulick is healthy) and run right at them with power plays and some of our gap scheme. Butler will be getting some carries in this. OSU's Dline is built for speed. Pass rush and lateral movement. They aren't that big up front and I think we can move them. We can play action off the 2 TE sets with lots of crossing routes (and occasionally wheel Fant) and send the lone WR on post patterns. They don't defend the middle of the field particularly well and teams have hurt them with crossing routes because they play so much man. They can also run 3 vertical routes and sneak the FB out or/and Bubble and Wheel the RB. They rush so hard, a few well timed draws, screens and shuffle passes (I think that is still in our arsenal) should be effective. Staying out of 3rd and long is crucial (like I'm telling anyone something they don't know). OSU does a lot of twisting up front, so communication on the line is going to have to be the best it has been all year, but if you 'catch' them in a twist on a power play, they turn into big gains. Their DL and LB's are so fast, 'stretch' plays probably won't be real effective, but we will see some to keep them honest. Eat lots of clock, and make them go a long way to score.
Like I said on Defense, key on the RB, sit in zone, and make them throw underneath, underneath, underneath, and make their QB beat us with his legs. HE DOES NOT LIKE TO RUN and goes down easy, Make him 'pay' when he runs, and playing zone helps eliminate the QB getting big chunks of yards when he runs, it's when teams are in 'man' that QB's run wild because all the coverage is running with their backs to the QB. It will be interesting to see how they 'plan' this.
