No post season, 1st time in 30 years

It will be interesting how many teams decline that tournament. Coaching changes, Half the team in the portal . Why is it so late? Most teams will be shut down by the time it starts. Good idea but bad timing.
i'm guessing tv coverage? between the ncaa and the nit, most days are occupied. both start on 3/18 and the only days that don't have ncaa or nit games are 3/24 and 4/2, 4/4 and 4/6.

So what you're saying is an Iowa team that finishes with a record of 15-16 can still get an NIT invite, interesting. Shows you how far the NIT has fallen.
No doubt. Even though the NIT has had the second class reputation as would be expected, there were typically still some high-quality teams in it, many who probably should have made the NCAA Tourney and could have made some noise in it. If the 16th place team in the B1G plays in it this year, I will lose all remaining respect I had for it. I still remember my Dad talking about how the NIT used to the THE postseason tourney in the fledgling stages of college basketball ('30s-early '50s).

One NIT Bracket moved us up four spots, so 24th with eight teams below but would be a road game.

The other moved us to a 3 seed as the B10 automatic rep with a home game. They have PSU, USC and Rutgers also getting at larges.

2 BIG10 teams Are committed to the Crown. Goes by final NET rankings I believe. Northwestern and Nebraska are as of right now unless we upset OSU!!

The CBC will take 10 at large teams from the B1G, Big 12, and Big East as well to fill in the final 16. (After the six automatic qualifiers)

I believe it’s uncertain if the entire bracket will be made up of teams from these conferences or if they’ll go outside of them.

The NIT has guaranteed one team from the B1G, but the teams have the right to opt out as well.

There is being worse than this, yes.

In fact, in the last 30 years there have been 7 Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball teams (or 23.3% of them) that have finished with a worse record, by win %, than this year's team currently has.

  • ’99-00 (Alford)
  • ’07-08 (Lickliter)
  • ’08-09 (Lickliter)
  • ’09-10 (Lickliter)
  • ’10-11 (McCaffery)
  • ’11-12 (McCaffery)
  • ’17-18 (McCaffery)

Not a post in defense of McCaffery -- I feel as disillusioned about the team as most here -- but some perspective is needed.
Yea! So this isn't Frans worst year. Another notch on his resume....

Some on this forum seem to hope for the team and coach to fail. And some seem to have zero concept of how competitive the league is. Yeah, I think it's time for Fran to move on. Yeah I wish we had more success in NCAA tourney. But this is only the second conference losing record in the last 12 years. I haven't checked, but I doubt many teams have fewer.
