Would beating MSU in the conference championship move Iowa past two one loss teams in the CFP committees eyes? (If everything else holds true)

Doubtful, but part of that will depend on how big the margin of victory might be and what Clemson and Alabama do. If both win, Iowa has almost no chance of being #2.

1, 2, 3 or 4 ..... makes no difference. As long as you are in the final four you have a shot. All games are on a neutral field. OSU was the 4th seed last year and they made out ok.

If Iowa wins they will be 3 and play Alabama. If Clemson loses Iowa will be 2 and play Oklahoma. They will set up a potential Oklahoma vs. Alabama match up in the finals at all costs.

If you honestly take the schedule and big wins into account then Iowa should jump Alabama if they beat MSU. I don't think that they will and I understand that but Bama is getting big bump because they are Bama. That LSU win is just not that impressive.

I believe they would be #2. Our best wins would be every bit as impressive as OK or Bama, but without the loss. I think the most interesting scenario is if UNC beats Clemson. Would that put them in?

Bama has 3 road wins over Top 25 teams, and Iowa has 2.

Their resume is more impressive than Iowa's, and they beat the shit out of Wisco while we barely snuck by.

Give Satan...er, Saban his due.

Here is my preferred scenario:
Big Ten is 4-5-6 in this week's standings. Winner of Sat game is in playoff. Bama loses to Florida (this will take an act of God though) and then OSU slides in to #4 slot and SEC is left out of playoffs. Loser of Sat then goes to Rose. I'm not sure I want OSU to be rewarded in this manner but this gives most to Big 10. If UNC and Stanford were to lose, it might even be possible for NW to slide in to NY6 game too. Wouldn't that be awesome for B1G?

Iowa will remain at #4 with a win. The "eye test" committee is blind AND biased.

They also played Wisconsin at a neutral site in their first game with a new coaching staff, while Iowa played a rivalry game on the road.

If we beat MSU that would give us two top 15 wins and three top 25 wins. Alabama won't even have one top 15 win. Oklahoma will likely have 3 Clemson 1 maybe 2. So if anything Alabama should be rated 4th given that and that they have 1 loss.

This. The scenario is the assumption that we beat MSU this Saturday. At that point Bama's good wins will be no more impressive than Iowa's; but THEY WILL HAVE LOST A GAME!

At that point Iowa gets the nod, and there's no real discussion to be had.

Iowa will jump OU with a win, if Clemson loses the B1G will get two teams into the playoffs.

I dont disagree with you, but if UNC beats Clemson and Ohio State goes, I cant even imagine the meltdown in Chapel Hill.

Actually, Bama played Wisconsin in Texas so it wasn't really a road win. Bama has a solid resume but if Iowa beats MSU, I think Iowa's is better.

New coaching staff? It's the same offensive system they've been running since Barry got there, and the DC is in his 3rd year.

Pretty dumb comment.

No - but if the best wins are similar then the team with no losses is going to be ranked higher.

Wrong.

We will be behind either or both of Bama and OU, you can take that to the freaking bank. No way Iowa gets ranked ahead of a one loss Bammer. Zero percent chance. None.

I think you are exactly right, though the committee can point to the fact that UNC is the only team in the top ten to have scheduled two FCS teams in their non-conference schedule, their loss to SC is worse than OSU's lost to MSU, and if they beat Clemson it will be their only win over a team currently ranked in the top 25. The melt down will be real if that comes to fruition, but I think the committee has plenty of bullets to justify putting the defending national champs in over UNC. Especially if it would mean a Saban/Meyer made for TV matchup in the semi-final.

No it isn't. Andersen ran a different system last year and Canada ran a different style after Chryst left. If you mean the same system in that they like to run the ball than yes, but if you go under the hood their have been a lot of tweaks since Chryst left. The DC has been there three years, but every other assistant is in their first season there. Sorry to let facts get in the way of your troll.

Yes that would be awesome, but it would also be physically impossible since the most a conference can get in the NY6 bowl games are 3. So even if NW is in the top 11 after this week, it would still be Iowa, MSU and OSU as no matter where NW ends up, Iowa will be ahead of them due to beating them 40-10 and only having 1 loss. NW and Michigan are battling it out for the Citrus and Outback bowl no matter what happens this week.

I don't think there's any way the Committee moves Iowa up to #2 in any scenario. Even if we win and Clemson & Alabama lose, after the chaotic shakeup, I wouldn't see us any higher than #3 (just like Florida St last year, despite being the only undefeated), fair or not.

I don't think there is any advantage to being #2 over #3. You have the exact same road to the championship either way.

I was wondering something along the same lines.

I'll preface this by saying, I don't think there's a chance in hell that Alabama loses to Florida, but I do think there is a good chance Clemson loses to UNC. With that being said, just for fun, what do you think would happen if Iowa won and Clemson AND Alabama lost. Just as I think Iowa will move to #3 with a BTT, I think Iowa would vault to #1 if Clemson and Alabama were to some how lose (in a bizarro world).

A guy can dream, right...?!

I don't believe there is a limit on how many teams from the same conference can go to New Year's Six bowls?

What they have been saying on Sirius is the committee will split up Bama and OU so Iowa will likely jump to 3. So, Clemson-OU and Bama-Iowa. I like this because I think we match up well with Bama's power game and love our chances in that game. I think trying to defend OU would be a nightmare.

If we win, and there aren't upsets, I would rather be at #4 and play Clemson, who I believe we would match up better with than Bama or OK, and if we can win, have a one game shot at Bama or Oklahoma, who are peaking right now. Just my 2 cents.

What 3 teams? The committee doesn't care if they were ranked in week 3. They need to be ranked now.

You're right. I got the amount of teams from each conference mistaken for the conference affiliations that the Rose and the Sugar have this year. That leaves FSU, ND and a Big 10 team to figure out where they will go for the remaining 2 bowls. So either way, I don't see NW making it up over FSU, ND or Iowa/OSU/MSU.

Not to nitpick but bama has only played two ranked teams according to last weeks playoff rankings. In those two games they are 1-1. one road win and one home loss.

Correct. No limit on NY6 games, including the semis. Most years there will be a conference with 3 teams in the NY6; last year it was the SEC, this year the B1G.
