*****Iowa vs Wisconsin Game Thread****

Choked away a bowl win and destroyed by a rival in the same week.

I'd give my left nut to be good in a sport that isn't ****ing wrestling.

That’s not my point. It’s one thing to go to a 3 or even 4 guard lineup with athletes but we’re doing it with a 5-11 pt guard, a 6-0 2 guard, Sandfort though he’s 6-6 might as well be Garza on defense and then Dix who on another team would be adequate. And some of you complaining about Dr Toms teams they were losing to teams much much better than this very average Wisconsin team that dropped 116.

I agree.

The small ball starting lineup can't rebound and they end up with the opposing Big on an Iowa guard on switches and they give up easy post baskets. Small ball isn't working with Sandfort at PF.

I wouldn't give up on Traore at PF---he's gotta get back up to speed, but he's a little on small side at PF. He was terrible vs Wisky, but I'd give him a shot. I even like Tadjo---he's stronger/more athletic than anyone else on the team.

LIke you said, most small ball teams don't have twigs, below the rim athletes at guard positions. Josh Dix is good defender, but he won't out muscle anyone. Harding is Tiny.

Freeman has to rebound and defend better. Even if he gets into foul trouble

Fran will never play Mulvey at center even against teams with 7ft centers...yet's he will play Braun who is equally unskilled but way to short.

I really don't think Fran is much of a head coach. Sure he can coach offense..That is only half the game. I do think we'll still win 10 or 11 games in B1G. That is good enough for Fran to keep his job.

You responded to me and my point was Thelwell is an upgrade from Perkins.

I'm not glad Perkins is gone at all. I didn't want him to leave, I just didn't want him at the 1.

This year's team will still be better than last years.

Tonight’s loss was way worse than any game last year. We have zero bench, and Fran and Traore seem nowhere close to being on the same page. Seems he’s getting the Bowen treatment while watching Peyton do whatever he wants out there. I was at the Utah St game and saw first hand how bad defensively we are. We’ll see how this team ends up but we’ve beaten nobody of substance.

It appears that we basically just let them shoot threes without making any effort to defend. Teams do not go 21-31 in practice with no defenders Wisconsin was hot but seriously folks. This team needs to look at themselves and ask if they really want to pay D-1 basketball or just goof around in intramurals

So trure i think they play defense with the mindset hope they miss

Fran has been the Iowa coach for 15 years and recruited just 1 center during that time, 7 foot Adam Woodbury and he could barely jump 3 inches but was pretty good at clogging the middle. 1 CENTER IN 15 YEARS.....unacceptable, Fran must believe he's still coaching a team in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference instead of the BIG TEN.
Wisconsin plays 2 - 7 footers in their starting lineup and for most of the 1st half kept up with the the Badgers but trying to contain their tall timber and guarding the 3 point line wasn't going to be sustainable for the entire game.
I understand Riley Mulvey is not going to be the answer, I get it, but why redshirt him last year if Fran had no intention of using Riley this year, that's recruiting and coaching malpractice. THIS IS YEAR 15, NOT YEAR 2 OR 3. That should never happen.
It really is time for Beth to do her job and tell Fran that this is his last year, no more undersized front courts, no wasted scholarships, no more rebounding beatdowns, and no more motion offense. It's time for a change and jump start this program and get our fans back to the seats at Carver and reenergize this program.
Offensively, Drew was outstanding is tonight's game, Dix just didn't get enough touches, and Owen was consumed with trying to play against 2 - 7 footers and looked like he still had issues with his ankle. Defensively, Iowa had no clue how to stop Wisconsin once they started feeling good about themselves shooting the 3, that's on Fran and his useless staff, including the great Matt Gatens, tonight was game 14 and the staff still has no clue how to teach rebounding. BETH, IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE.......DO YOUR JOB.

Can you repeat rhat?

Let’s just hope he goes in Indianapolis to watch Jack play and Connor help coach the team next year. He’s fleeced the U of I of enough money to last a lifetime.

I thought he was going to start crying :(
I feel bad for him
He has one real skill in BB....shooting..and when that goes away not much else he can do to contribute.
I have no doubt he wants to win and believes that he has to score to win so he has to keep shooting.
He will get hot at some point but could be too late to salvage the season for the team or him.

I think his NBA combine performance cannot be ignored now with his shooting woes.
He simply is one of the poorest raw athletes ever tested there with a vertical of 22 inches.
That is not really even div 1 for a wing, let alone NBA.
I hate piling on him as he is a Hawkeye who clearly is feeling the weight of the mantle of responsibility for a successful season.

My bold predictions -

The Kohl Center will be rocking
Freeman will be in foul trouble
Wisky will feast on layups and wide-open 3's
The Badgers will smother Sandfort, he will go 2-10 from 3
Hawks out rebounded by double figures.
Dix will be solid

Badgers 81-68.
My predictions were pretty good.

Kohl Center was rocking - correct
Freeman in foul trouble - incorrect, but maybe he should have fouled more
Feast on layups and 3's - bingo. Did they shoot anything else?
Sandfort 2-10 from 3 - close, 1-9 for the game
Out rebounded by double figures - correct (15)
Dix will be solid - correct, 16 pts on 7-10 shooting

Score 81-68. Way off, but got the winner right,

Score 6 out of 7.

Beth has a tough task in front of her. Two old coaches in Fran and KF (66 and 69) on long term contracts. But they also happen to be the winningest coaches in Iowa history. Both programs are flat or trending down. Fans are not too pleased and I'm guessing that neither are the big donors.

Jack is moving on after this year so hopefully it won't be too hard to convince Fran to move on too.

KF will be the tougher task.

Iowa's football and basketball programs really need a reboot.

Kirk just needs to let Lester run the offense as he sees fit.

Oh man, Dix didn’t get it done and we lost. He definitely wasn’t cooking.
Huh? Dix was 7 for 10 from the field and 2 of 3 on 3s, and he was playing some defense. Dix and Thelwell were not the reason Iowa got blown of the court. Just about everyone else, yep.
