Iowa a 16 point favorite over Maryland

One team is top 10 the other fired its coach a couple weeks ago. Seems about right.

After looking at your remaining schedule, IMHO the team you might want to be nervous about (and many will probably disagree) is Indiana at their place. They gave OSU (a few week ago) everything it could handle and their MSU score from yesterday is very misleading - it was a close game well into the 2nd half. Indiana can definitely put up some points.

I don't disagree. Sudfeld extends plays against Iowa's zone coverage giving receiver time to find space and settle down. I want to see Iowa man up and bring five (especially on third down) to keep him from getting comfortable.

Agreed. Many on this board have been saying exactly that for the last couple of weeks.

Some might make a hasty decision, but the prudent thing to do at this juncture, is to wait until later in the week and see which way the line moves.

Again. 2 weeks ago Indiana gave up 55 points to RUTGERS, and yesterday gave up 52 points. Game, set and match to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa is a complete team, Indiana is half of a team.

Maryland's QB could give us fits if we don't get on them early. -16 is way too high. I would take Maryland against the spread.

Indiana is a tough game for Iowa in any year. Iowa just never matches up well against them. Depends on how much pressure we can put on their quarterback.

Problem is, the half they have is offense. They are completely fine playing a game where they would outscore you 50-40

It's such an honor to post on the same message board as so many sports gambling experts. It's nice of you all to take a break from your globetrotting, thoroughbred breeding and other gazillionaire activities to give us your tips here. Ok, which one of you is the Fan Duel $2 million dude; c'mon, speak up.

My online book, which is one of the biggest and best (5dimes) has it at 17 now.

I'd still advise waiting until later in the week to see which way this line moves though.

It depends how focused the Hawks are, both is prep for the game AND when playing in the game. If a sharp Hawk squad does their job and hog-ties the Maryland running game ... then they have to rely upon their passing game to win the game. If the Hawks continue to play solid coverage ... Maryland has proven to essentially be good for around 2 INTs a game.

You give this Hawk squad +2 turnovers ... they're going to convert those mistakes into points (probably, at least, 10 points). Then, on top of all that, you have to deal with the reality that when the Hawks are playing Hawkeye football ... they're going to be the better team anyhow. Thus, even if you're being conservative and give them the Kinnick 7 point advantage and nothing else ... that still has the Hawks batting -17.

Of course, if the Hawks aren't sharp and even turn the ball over - who knows what sort of outcome to expect?

Maryland seemed to be in shambles but Locksley has apparently begun to push the right buttons rightaway. I didn't watch them against PSU but the stats suggest that it was a close hard-fought game. Clearly Maryland isn't demoralized about their midseason coaching change. On a somewhat related note-- the other interim coach, Cubit, who came into Kinnick also put a solid team on the field.

I'll summarize the game for you:

- The game was AT Maryland. That matters because it clearly impacted how the Maryland coaches called the game.

- Maryland was coming off of a bye-week. It gave them valuable time to scout themselves and prep for the PSU game. Furthermore, it gave the interim coaching staff an opportunity to try to "circle the wagons."

- The PSU OL is mediocre - Maryland DL is pretty good : disruption at the line of scrimmage impacted play

- Maryland keyed on stopping the run and pressuring the QB - it kinda worked, but Hackenberg can throw a deep ball. Essentially all of PSU's points were the consequence of a big pass-play. Maryland's secondary kept on getting beat.

- PSU still isn't what you'd imagine what PSU "should be." Their run D was surprisingly mediocre. The biggest issue was attributable to the fact that they failed to contain the mobility of Perry Hills (the Maryland QB).

Closing comment: As I recall, Locksley is a native of the DC area. He was the biggest reason why the Illini had luck recruiting the greater DC/Baltimore region. By being a native, that is a huge benefit with respect to how he can relate to his players. As any educator can tell you - rapport is central. Also, while I'm not impressed with him as a coach, he was the OC for the Illini when they made their Rose-Bowl run in 2007. Some of his Os have been pretty successful - their main attribute being a very "multiple" running attack. My main criticism is that I've never seen one of his Os be good at BOTH running AND passing the ball. QBs under his tutelage tend to make great run-reads ... but their passing reads leave something to be desired.

I watched the Maryland-PSU game. Hills is a decent QB who can run. That being said, PSU was quite soft. Iowa is MUCH more physical than Maryland and we will take over the game in the 2nd half. If CJ is at 90% we will win going away.

I would take Maryland and the points...Iowa will rest players, be more conservative...punt, defend, win the game...

The question is, how healthy is this team? CJ could barely walk last week and we really can't afford another injury at any position. I like this teams focus and I really think this is a motivated team, but Maryland really stepped up after firing their coach and we were suppose to beat them last year.
If this team\coaches maintain that aggressive mentality, this team shouldn't lose another regular season game. Looking forward to an exciting 2nd half!

All we have to do is run the ball and control the clock. This protects CJ if he still isn't 100%. Of course, he will throw once in awhile to keep the Terps off-balance. Wear down their defense. Defensively, just contain Hills and the run game. If he puts the ball in the air enough, we'll get a couple of more picks. We are a more complete team than the PSU team they just faced.

I've been to every Iowa game at Bloomington, since I moved to Nashville in 2000, and only once, did Iowa win, with comfort, and that was 2008.
Their style of play, no matter who the coach is, has given us fits, since 1998.

Iowa fans are WELL AWARE of the match-up at Indiana.
We don't need a Lloyd Christmas, "We've landed on the moon" moment.

The irony is that Indiana tends to always play Iowa close ... but against Wisconsin's ground and pound game ... they tend to get leveled. This is the first time in a long time when I feel that we have the potential for a pretty dominant ground game. If that continues to be the case ... we can drive down the field with running game, all the while eating clock and keeping Indiana off the field. In the process, the Iowa D remains fresh, and get some stops. Iowa's O gets the ball back ... rinse and repeat. If we do that, then the Hawks have a chance to control the game. Otherwise, we can probably expect a game like the Indiana vs MSU game ... or the Iowa vs Illinois game. In other words, irritatingly close ... I hope it doesn't go that way. Anyhow, Maryland is first up ... got to beat them first.
