*****Maryland vs Iowa Game Thread*****

See this is what I don’t get about fans… We’re all pissed off about this game. We played like shit in the first half, but that’s not enough for people. They gotta complain about who played, they got complain about how they played, they have to complain about the coaching. Maryland scored 26 points in the second half f€#k they scored 26 in the second quarter….

Right now they’re over there talking about what a masterful game Brenda called. If she lost they’d all be saying the same stuff we are saying here, don’t you get tired of being like that?

At least be original…I saw a team that did EVERYTHING wrong in the 1st half play their asses off to get back in the game.

It’s like losing twice WTH?!
I think the problem is that same issues keep killing us. Missed layups, too many turnovers, and always going to back to what doesn't work when other things are working.

I’ve been saying it all year and you know it. I’d rather go small and a little more athletic and take your chances. That’s how we came back. Hannah cannot put the ball on the floor. Her and O Grady together work against lesser teams but it’s not going to work against a team like this. Yes, we absolutely battled our asses off in the 2nd half. At this point in the conference season with the schedule we have we have to figure out our best lineup. Guyton absolutely needs minutes. Play her and Lucy together. We need ball handlers.

Ediger did play better than AOG or HS IMO. If AOG stays in the starting lineup JJ is not serious about beating good teams. And you have to question HS playing time given her propensity to choke.

JJ needs to start making some hard decisions IMO about who the toughest and most competent players are. She also needs to start coaching a more fluid approach during game.

As had been said earlier. Too much standing around looking for the turnover post pass.

Love Guyton. Wish she had more shot attempts.

Today, in 16 minutes, she was 3-4 (75%) FGs, 1-2 (50%) from three for 7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist

I watched women’s basketball all day, they missed labs. They also turned the ball over a hell of a lot. We flat sucked in the 1st half. Ask yourself this what was different in the second half.

I like this team as frustrating as it is at times. I think tonight it was frustrating to watch them continue to force it down low.

We aren’t good at it, that’s for sure. Not sure you can stop doing it though. We need to get better

But that’s the thing. We can stop doing it. It should not be the focal point of our offense. Even when we could get it to her today she couldn’t finish. If she was our best player, fine. But let’s get 4 shooters or ball handlers out there and figure it out from there. Comeback was with small ball by the way.

No leadership on the team which translates to keeping teammates accountable. I wish Jan would hire Caitlin for the next 6 weeks as an assistant so she can toughen them up (mentally and physically).
This is true and they better find one very soon.

I've never seen a team miss so many layups and point-blank shots a foot from the basket. You would think this would be correctible but it never seems to get better.

Based on how she subbed all game today, I'm not sure she has a clue who the toughest and most competent players are. We're 15 games in and I can't make heads or tails of who she's subbing for or why.....She had combos out there who hadn't played together all season.

It was apparent people were playing out of position as they struggled to throw in bounds passes after made baskets because no was there to take the ball out or the guards who were in weren't sure if they were supposed to be bringing it up or fleeing to the offensive end......That's a problem........

It’s a L yes but the second half was encouraging.
Looks like they turned up the defensive pressure and that was good to see. Elephant in the room continues to be turnovers as everyone has said.
I expected growing pains this year.
That being said AO is too slow to play large minutes. Ava needs more of those minutes and we need less KF and more Guyton.
Trying to stay level headed knowing we were gonna have a drop off this year. Stil like the trajectory however

They figured out how to come back, but could nevér get the big momentum bucket when the game situation dictated. Whenever they had those moments they reverted back to their failed game plan.

I actually think that's on the players. As usual, in the moment to step up nearly everyone chooses to step aside. That's been a big issue, and it continues to be. Sure, use your offense, but players have to create shots through it. If nobody can create, you try to pass.

Standing looking for a pass when you haven't even used a dribble will get you nowhere. It's looking for a turnover.

Whatever they are being coached to do, it got them a lot of shots under the basket or within a few feet. Coach can't make that shot for them. I mean it should at least be on the rim somewhere, right? Make those shots and you may very well win the game---even after Maryland couldn't miss in the first half.

*Winning the second half is a positive takeaway because it really looked like this was going to be an embarrassing score after one half. Play consistently and make a few bunnies they win a big game.

*A coach in her first year, a team without experience. Seems a recipe for what we saw today.

*Maybe easier now to make some hard decisions. ???
