IOWA a #2 Seed, Illinois & Michigan a 1 in Latest (March14) ESPN Bracketology. Jerry Palm: Iowa a 2. Mike DeCoursy: Iowa a 2. Bracket Matrix: Iowa a 2

My expectations really haven’t changed much since the start of the year. Top 4 finish in the B1G and a Sweet 16 appearance. We knew this team’s defensive limitations coming in to the season.
A "Franunion"? 😀
tomorrow we are gonna be in a dog fight; #7 OSU is in town & they are trying to get that #2 seed away from Iowa

Bracket matrix right now:
#2 Seed (8th best team) Iowa
#3 Seed (9th best team) Ohio State

Updated Kenpom predicted conference standings

Michigan 12-4
Iowa 13-6
Illinois 12-6
Ohio St 12-8
Wisconsin 12-8
Purdue 11-8
Rutgers 10-10

Yuuuuuge game against OSU tonight.

It would be great if we could reschedule that Husker game.

Debbie (0-5) currently has only 9 games scheduled and Iowa isn't one of them.

They don't play until Feb. 6. Can they play 15 games (9 scheduled plus the 6 that were postponed) in 30 days (Feb 6-March 7)?

Jan 10: Last time they played.

Feb 6: Next scheduled game (27 day lay off).

6 games were postponed:

Jan 5 at Purdue
Jan 13 vs Illinois
Jan 16 at Maryland
Jan 20 vs Minnesota
Jan 24 at Iowa
Jan 30 vs PSU

NOTE that Michigan got to play Debbie on Dec 25 and Wisconsin got to play them on Dec 22 whereas Iowa's game has been postponed.

Wisconsin is supposed to play Debbie again on Feb 11. Huge scheduling advantage for the Wolverines (one easy win over Debbie) & the Badgers (2 easy wins over Debbie).

As I've said before....No team in the country has benefitted more by NOT PLAYING than Michigan. It's like in roller derby. They have the lead and then cut off the jam so no one could catch them.
(Hey. How often do you get a roller derby reference on here?)

Yep. Since their shutdown:

* They are "stuck" with a projected #1 seed in the NCAA tournament.

* They are "stuck" at the top of the conference standings, with just one conference loss (8-1)

* The rest of the contenders keep on playing, where a team like Iowa (7-3) can't afford to get a 4th conference loss

A win tonight vs OSU should slide us back to a #2 seed

If we could shoot free throws, we would have a nice lead. 2nd half of the season it seems nobody can drain them.

February 5 UPDATE:

Bracket Matrix
, which combines MANY bracketologists, has Iowa right now as I type a #2 seed & EIGHTH best overall team.
Check that out here: http://www.bracketmatrix.com/

According to Joe Lunardi, ESPN:

For those wondering about OK State:
They received a one-year postseason ban by the NCAA infractions committee. The Cowboys appealed, and the NCAA has confirmed that OK State is eligible while the appeal is undecided. That is why many bracketologists are including OK State in their bracket because we are now close enough where a no-decision seems feasible.

Important Dates:

March 14:
The Bracket will be announced (Selection Sunday)

April 5: The NCAA Tournament will conclude

NOTE: All games are going to be bubbled in Indianapolis/the Indianapolis area. The primary adjustment from a normal year is, of course, the playing of the entire NCAA tournament at a single site (in a single region). There is no need to bracket any team away from a regional or subregional it is hosting, or attempt to give teams geographic priority based on their position on the seed list.

Iowa has been no worse than a 3 seed since July 15, when Lunardi's first bracket came out.

3 seed on July 15
1 seed on Dec 15
1 seed on Jan 19
3 seed on Feb 5

10 B1G teams are in, per Joe Lunardi:

REGION 1 (Was the West Region in Denver; Gonzaga is #1 seed)

09 Minnesota
11 Indiana (On the Bubble: Last 4 byes)
02 Ohio State

REGION 4 (Was the Midwest Region in Minneapolis; Alabama is #1 seed)

12 Maryland (On the Bubble: Last 4 in)
06 Purdue
02 Illinois

REGION 2 (Was the South Region in Memphis; Baylor is #1 seed)

03 IOWA

REGION 3 (Was the East Region in Brooklyn; Michigan is #1 seed)

01 Michigan
03 Wisconsin
07 Rutgers (@MrsScrew )

...................................................

OTHERS:

Penn State--On the BUBBLE: Next 4 OUT

Michigan State--NOT in the Tournament. The last time that Michigan State missed the NCAA Tournament under Tom Izzo was 1997 (24 years ago), which was his 2nd year as head coach.

Drake--an 8 seed in Michigan's Region.

Virginia Tech (Cordell Pemsl)-- a 6 seed vs 11 Indiana in Gonzaga's Region.

Duke!!! -- NOT in the Tournament!!! @Hawksfor3

----------The last time Duke did not make the NCAA Tournament? 1995 (26 freakin' years ago).

Man if we can just win the next 3 that’d help solidify things a bit. If Iowa plays the way they’ve been playing though I fear 1-2..

whats frustrating to me is Michigan not playing & still a 1 seed

Also, we are just as good, if not better (even though we lost to them), than OSU & they are a borderline 2/1 seed

IF Iowa gets its act together, we should be no worse than a 3 seed

Don't feed the Nebraska fan troll.

Today, Jerry Palm came out with Iowa as a 4 seed; Mike Decoursy had Iowa as a 5 seed.

Lunardi's latest bracket comes out tomorrow.

3 seed on July 15
1 seed on Dec 15
1 seed on Jan 19
3 seed on Feb 5

@SotaHawk87

Agree. If the season ended today Iowa would likely be a 4 seed.

Iowa has plenty of time to move back up.

After all, as mentioned several times: Before today, Iowa had never been worse than a 3 seed since July 15, when Joe Lunardi's first bracket came out.

3 seed on July 15
1 seed on Dec 15
1 seed on Jan 19
3 seed on Feb 5

Michigan was supposed to play Illinois this Thursday. They would have three practices before the game. They chose not to play.

Their women’s team is in the exact same situation and are playing Thursday.

I’m confident the men’s team would have played Thursday if it was Nebraska on the schedule.

To this point, Michigan has only played two games against the top 8 teams in the league. They decline to play and continue to rise in the rankings.

4 seed or higher is critical for this team, Everyone always talks about these 5/12 upsets that happen every year, but there is a reason for that. The 13/12 line is where it starts to break down from small regional conferences, to true 2nd tier conference champs, that way more often can be really legitimate and dangerous teams. In the 68 team field I would almost rather play they 6/11 than the 5/12. The 11 seeds are usually talent laden teams that don’t play good basketball.
