IOWA a #2 Seed, Illinois & Michigan a 1 in Latest (March14) ESPN Bracketology. Jerry Palm: Iowa a 2. Mike DeCoursy: Iowa a 2. Bracket Matrix: Iowa a 2

February 19 Update:

Bracket Matrix
, which combines MANY bracketologists, has Iowa right now as I type a #3 seed & TENTH best overall team.

Check that out here: http://www.bracketmatrix.com/

According to Joe Lunardi, ESPN:

For those wondering about OK State:
They received a one-year postseason ban by the NCAA infractions committee. The Cowboys appealed, and the NCAA has confirmed that OK State is eligible while the appeal is undecided. That is why many bracketologists are including OK State in their bracket because we are now close enough where a no-decision seems feasible.

Important Dates:

March 14:
The Bracket will be announced (Selection Sunday)

April 5: The NCAA Tournament will conclude

NOTE: All games are going to be bubbled in Indianapolis/the Indianapolis area. The primary adjustment from a normal year is, of course, the playing of the entire NCAA tournament at a single site (in a single region). There is no need to bracket any team away from a regional or subregional it is hosting, or attempt to give teams geographic priority based on their position on the seed list.

Iowa has been no worse than a 4 seed since July 15, when Lunardi's first bracket came out.

3 seed on July 15
1 seed on Dec 15
1 seed on Jan 19
3 seed on Feb 5
4 seed on Feb 9 & 12
3 seed on Feb 16
2 seed on Feb 19

10 B1G teams are in, per Joe Lunardi:

REGION 1 (Was the West Region in Denver; Gonzaga is #1 seed)

06 Purdue
10 Indiana; ON THE BUBBLE: Last 4 byes

REGION 4 (Was the Midwest Region in Minneapolis; Ohio State is #1 seed)

Drake--ON THE BUBBLE: Last 4 Byes. An 11 seed vs 6 seed Virginia Tech in Ohio State's Region.

@HAWKS4LIFE, we have been no worse than a 4 seed since July 15, when Lunardi's first bracket came out.

3 seed on July 15
1 seed on Dec 15
1 seed on Jan 19
3 seed on Feb 5
4 seed on Feb 9 & 12
3 seed on Feb 16
2 seed on Feb 19

Today, we are a consensus #3. Keep winning? Might just end up with something better than a #3.

And shoulda, woulda, coulda, but Iowa had a win over Ohio State in its grasps at home until they let it slip away. Just sucks....
Yeah it sucks, but a Mich. win would hand Ohio St. it's 5th loss and tie us in the L column. Buckeyes still have ways to lose with their remaining schedule, including playing us on Feb. 28, albeit in Columbus.

This is our key to getting the Double-bye:

Just win, baby, and Iowa will keep moving up.
🙂

I am torn on the Michigan / OSU game. I kinda want a 2nd loss for Michigan because I think the Illini and Iowa can also give them a loss. And then suddenly Michigan has 4 losses.

I wonder how much the road wins at tOSU and MICH will add?

As long as we don't have a bad loss, closing out the regular season with wins over #3 NET Michigan and #6 NET Ohio State would be HUGE.

Check out what follows. OSU could end up losing 3 of their 4 remaining games (Sunday vs Michigan is huge). And then you could look at Michigan's schedule & see 3 losses for them. Hopefully Michigan is forced to play all 20 games, like the rest of the contenders.

Here are the Current Schedules of the Top 4 B1G Teams:

Michigan's (10-1) Remaining Schedule:

Feb 21 at OSU
Feb 25 vs Iowa
Feb 27 at Indiana
Mar 2 vs Illinois
March 7 at Michigan State

Illinois' (11-3) Remaining Schedule:
Feb 20 at MN
Feb 23 at MSU
Feb 25 vs Neb
Feb 27 at Wisc
Mar 2 at Michigan
Mar 6 at OSU

Ohio State (12-4) Remaining Schedule:
Feb 21 vs Michigan
Feb 25 vs MSU
Feb 28 vs Iowa
Mar 6 vs Illinois

Iowa (10-5) Remaining Schedule:
Feb 21 vs PSU
Feb 25 at Michigan
Feb 28 at OSU
Mar 4 vs Nebraska
Mar 7 vs Wisconsin

Hopefully we can pile up a few more wins to not be in the same region as Gonzaga or Baylor.

See today's NET rankings at the end of this post.

It will be fun to see what Iowa does with its last 5 games and the B1G Tournament. There is so much potential to get better than a 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Last 5 B1G Games:
Feb 21 vs PSU (NET=39)
Feb 25 at Michigan (NET=3)
Feb 28 at OSU (NET=6)
Mar 4 vs Nebraska (NET=145)
Mar 7 vs Wisconsin (NET=22)

If the BTT started today, we would likely play 5 seed Purdue (NET=27) in the quarters, hopefully 1 seed Michigan (NET=3) in the semi's and if we got there, Illinois (NET=4) or OSU (NET=6) in the Finals.

Remember, too, that the Selection Committee values the NET rankings. Today Iowa was #5 in the NET, which would mean a probable 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Here is a really good article on this topic:

Couldn't agree with you more. Plus the fact that Iowa and really every team in the Big 10 has had the highest strength of schedule this year, I could see several Big 10 teams going far in the tournament regardless of their seeding. When you get to the second weekend, matchups will have some determination on how far you can advance to the championship.

Duke is going to get in if they are on the bubble, no question about it. I noticed that Siena is currently the MAAC leader and could wind up at a 15 seed. Wouldn't that be something? Since geography isn't a concern this year, we should get a more true to 1-68 bracket with minimal procedural moves. I'd say that probably the biggest maneuvering headache will simply come from trying to keep Big Ten teams from matching up in the second round. It's somewhat unlikely (though not impossible) that Mich, OSU, Illinois and Iowa will occupy 4 of the top 8 spots since there's so many matchups amongst them yet to come in the regular season and likely in the BTT.

Magically, the NCAA is going to make a decision and come down on OkSt. whenever they have their next season when they aren't going to make the tourney. Book it!

Iowa's sitting pretty good right now. Even losses to Michigan AND tOSU probably won't drop them down to the dreaded 4/5 line. Win 1 of those and I think they are almost a lock not to land on that line.

yeah, we could all end up cannibalizing each other before Selection Sunday.

And if Iowa goes on another losing streak, we might slide down to a #3 seed or #4 seed. We could go 0-2 this week, lets face it, And Iowa does not have a good history in the B1G Tournament; lets hope we are not one and done again this year.

And, dang, Michigan sure looks good. The one thing I don't think is fair is the B1G is not forcing them to play a full 20 game schedule (they are only at 17 games). Meanwhile, look what the B1G did to Nebraska. They had to play 8 games in 15 days.

Its been interesting to see how the B1G has been protecting its national title contenders (tOSU in football, Michigan this year in basketball).

@TheTruthTheWholeTruth , I am surprised the Illini did not get dinged by losing to MSU. Instead, no change for them in today's NET Rankings.
