IOWA a #2 Seed, Illinois & Michigan a 1 in Latest (March14) ESPN Bracketology. Jerry Palm: Iowa a 2. Mike DeCoursy: Iowa a 2. Bracket Matrix: Iowa a 2

February 26 Update:

Bracket Matrix
, which combines MANY bracketologists, has Iowa right now as I type a #2 seed & EIGHTH best overall team.

Check that out here: http://www.bracketmatrix.com/

According to Joe Lunardi, ESPN:

For those wondering about OK State:
They received a one-year postseason ban by the NCAA infractions committee. The Cowboys appealed, and the NCAA has confirmed that OK State is eligible while the appeal is undecided. That is why many bracketologists are including OK State in their bracket because we are now close enough where a no-decision seems feasible.

Important Dates:

March 14:
The Bracket will be announced (Selection Sunday)

April 5: The NCAA Tournament will conclude

NOTE: All games are going to be bubbled in Indianapolis/the Indianapolis area. The primary adjustment from a normal year is, of course, the playing of the entire NCAA tournament at a single site (in a single region). There is no need to bracket any team away from a regional or subregional it is hosting, or attempt to give teams geographic priority based on their position on the seed list.

Iowa has been no worse than a 4 seed since July 15, when Lunardi's first bracket came out.

3 seed on July 15
1 seed on Dec 15
1 seed on Jan 19
3 seed on Feb 5
4 seed on Feb 9 & 12
3 seed on Feb 16
2 seed on Feb 19, Feb 23
3 seed on Feb 26

9 B1G teams are in, per Joe Lunardi:

REGION 1 (Was the West Region in Denver; Gonzaga is #1 seed)

09 Maryland
03 IOWA

REGION 4 (Was the Midwest Region in Minneapolis; Ohio State is #1 seed)

01 Ohio State
06 Purdue

REGION 2 (Was the South Region in Memphis; Baylor is #1 seed)

08 Rutgers (@MrsScrew )
05 Wisconsin
02 Illinois

REGION 3 (Was the East Region in Brooklyn; Michigan is #1 seed)

01 Michigan
11 Indiana--ON THE BUBBLE: Last 4 In

...................................................

OTHERS:

Minnesota--ON THE BUBBLE: FIRST 4 OUT

Michigan State--ON THE BUBBLE: First 4 OUT. The last time that Michigan State missed the NCAA Tournament under Tom Izzo was 1997 (24 years ago), which was his 2nd year as head coach.

Drake--An 11 seed vs 6 seed Virginia Tech in Baylor's Region.

Virginia Tech (Cordell Pemsl)-- a 6 seed vs 11 seed Drake in Baylor's Region.

Duke!!! -- ON THE BUBBLE: NEXT 4 OUT!!! @Hawksfor3

----------The last time Duke did not make the NCAA Tournament? 1995 (26 freakin' years ago).

Interesting. I don’t see anything remotely close on Virginia’s resume that would have them above Iowa right now. A slightly better SOS? 12 quad 1 games vs 7.. 3 less quad one wins?

Agreed. Mike Decourcy had a really interesting article when the NCAA first announced their Top 16 teams. He said it was clear the NCAA was relying on the NET rankings (Iowa is currently #6, Virginia #14). If that holds true up until Selection Sunday, then Virginia is probably a 4 seed right now.

Including last night's results (as you mentioned):

@Hawksfor3 , Duke is in?!?!

That would be a dream bracket....until the Elite 8

Shelby Mast (his brackets are printed in/posted on USA Today) has the same top 4 seeds as Mike Decoursy.

1 Gonzaga
2 Alabama
3 Iowa
4 Texas

Shelby has Iowa vs #14 Wright State with the winner playing #6 OK State/#11 Colorado State

Mike has Iowa vs #14 Abilene Christian with the winner playing #6 Texas Tech/#11 North Carolina

Then, of course, there is potentially #2 Alabama in the Sweet 16 and #1 Gonzaga in the Elite 8 :(

Let's hope for at least a 3 seed and LOTS of upsets in our bracket!!

Do we have an outside shot at a 1 seed? I am thinking if we get to the big championship game we could get their. Probably have to beat Illinois and Michigan to get there.

I'm pretty sure that the #1 seeds will be Gonzaga, Baylor, Michigan, and Illinois, barring any unforeseen Covid related protocol.
Remember, after selection Sunday if any teams that have Covid issues and can't participate in the Tournament will be replaced with one of the first four out teams and then the second four out. That's at least what I understand from talking heads.

Do we have an outside shot at a 1 seed? I am thinking if we get to the big championship game we could get their. Probably have to beat Illinois and Michigan to get there.

Remember that the NCAA Selection Committee puts a lot of stock in the NET Rankings and this morning Iowa is #6 in the NET, so we we are right there, knocking on the door.

Like you said, we need to win our last 2 reg season games and probably at least reach the championship game of the BTT to be considered for a #1 seed. Our opponents in the BTT likely would be Wisconsin (NET is 25), Illinois (NET is 4) and Michigan (NET is 3).

Also, Iowa remains a #2 seed, per Bracket Matrix.

still a 2 seed but now in Michigan's region

If Iowa can stay on the 2 line, really big. Yes, beating a Michigan or Gonzaga or Baylor is a tall task, but avoid those teams as long as possible. Take care of business against Badgers on Sunday, and probably doesn't matter what Iowa does in BTT.

Jerry Palm, CBS SPORTS, March 5 UPDATE:

NOTE: Bracket Matrix
, which combines MANY bracketologists, has Iowa as a #2 seed & 6TH best overall team as I type this.

Check that out here: http://www.bracketmatrix.com/

For those wondering about OK State:
They received a one-year postseason ban by the NCAA infractions committee. The Cowboys appealed, and the NCAA has confirmed that OK State is eligible while the appeal is undecided. That is why many bracketologists are including OK State in their bracket because we are now close enough where a no-decision seems feasible.

Important Dates:

March 14:
The Bracket will be announced (Selection Sunday)

April 5: The NCAA Tournament will conclude

NOTE: All games will be bubbled in Indianapolis/the Indianapolis area. The primary adjustment from a normal year is, of course, the playing of the entire NCAA tournament at a single site/region of the country. There is no need to bracket any team away from a regional or subregional it is hosting, or attempt to give teams geographic priority based on their position on the seed list.

9 B1G teams are in, per Jerry Palm, CBS Sports:

Hinkle Fieldhouse; Gonzaga is #1 seed

08 Maryland
02 Iowa vs S Utah; winner plays 7 Oklahoma/10 Wichita State

Lucas Oil Stadium; Illinois is #1 seed

01 Illinois

Indiana Farmers Coliseum; Baylor is #1 seed

09 Rutgers (@MrsScrew )
04 Purdue
02 Ohio State

Bankers Life Fieldhouse; Michigan is #1 seed

01 Michigan
11 Michigan State--ON THE BUBBLE: Last 4 In. In the Play in Game vs 11 seed VCU
07 Wisconsin

...................................................

OTHERS:

Drake--ON THE BUBBLE: Last 4 In. In the Play In Game! A 12 seed vs 12 seed St Louis in Baylor's Bracket. Winner plays 5 seed Texas Tech.

Virginia Tech (Cordell Pemsl)-- a 6 seed in Michigan's Bracket.

Duke!!! -- OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT!! @Hawksfor3

----------The last time Duke did not make the NCAA Tournament? 1995 (26 freakin' years ago).

I just want to add, I'm glad to see Indiana now on the outside looking in. It made me sick to my stomach that they were in the mix for a bid until recently almost entirely based on beating Iowa twice this year. Wish we could have those games back and play them again. Barring a BTT miracle, I'll enjoy the schadenfreude of seeing them miss the NCAA tourney for 5 years in a row, their longest stretch without a tournament bid in nearly 50 years.
