Iowa heads to Columbus for four games this weekend. I hope I have this right. Iowa will play Ohio State at 4pm Friday. Ohio State on noon Saturday. Maryland at 4pm Saturday. Maryland at Sunday. All games on BTN plus.

One camera behind home plate is not exactly a great way to watch a baseball game

I had prior commitments this afternoon so thanks for the updates. I think what we’re seeing is a combination of Iowa facing potentially three of the top four teams in the league in their first 13 games, Covid layover, top pitcher being hurt and so on. Plus I don’t think they are quite as good as we thought. I’d probably put them in the 6-9 range instead of 3-6 like I’d thought. Add in that the offense is nowhere near what I thought it’d be and you have these results.
Still a lot of baseball left, but they are digging a pretty big hole and some of what we are seeing is not promising. Games against Maryland will tell us a lot.

Kind of looks that way. It is just terrible that the 2020 season got derailed. Heller had a really good team. And they have had some bad breaks this year with Williams injury. And if Fullard and Martin aren't going to hit a lick this year it's going to be a long season. Fullard and Martin are slugging at .308 and .250 this year after really being good last year. Fullard had an OPS of over 1.000 last year and is at .518 OPS this year. That is devastating to have your best hitter going through a prolonged slump. If he's healthy, just a matter of time before he starts hitting.
Iowa got it done in game one today, happy for a kid like Baumann to have a start like that given his struggles.

Iowa is 6-8, but has an RPI of 60 which is the highest in the Big Ten. Problem is some of the upcoming games lose ground. Even with a win today as of now Iowa would lose one point. Minnesota in a few weeks will lose points even with wins.

Iowa loads em up with no outs and finally gets the big hits, scores 8 runs in the inning. Hopefully the offense is turning a corner this weekend. Maryland helped the cause by giving Iowa a lot of free bases.
You’ll take 3-1 every weekend with these four game sets. Iowa is 7-8 with 29 games left. So there is plenty of time. Some guys are coming around offensively, and it is imperative that what we saw from Irvine, Baumann, and Davitt is the norm for them.
I’ve been impressed with what Brayden Frazier has been doing offensively as well. Obviously Tyler Snep is showing promise and power as well.

Maryland has some power with Costes and Bednar, they did a good job limiting what Maryland did to Iowa. Bednar feels like he’s been there ten years.
Why aren’t any games on regular BTN? There is actually zero excuse for that at this point.
