Iowa Commit Ben VanSumeren offered by Michigan

Ughhhhhh. If he goes our coaches pull the scholly right? Wtf.
I'm starting to wonder if these kids are too afraid to say that they are having second thoughts so then when they get another offer that intrigues them, they think, "Oh I'll just take an official visit to this place and then Iowa will pull my offer so then I don't have to sweat how I will tell everyone I don't want to be there"

To answer your question, most likely yes

And yet a month ago he was an unheralded 2-star. Odd business recruiting.

In my mind there are bare minimum 300 to 500 2/3 star kids every year that are missed badly.

Well guys we are either going to see a guy solidify his commitment or we are about to have a Decommit. I would imagine the staff is telling him to.pick his poison right now.

Not if they communicate.

I'm not going to do the leg work to prove it, but we have had recruits go on visits before. The difference is the coaches don't here about it on the "waiver" wire. The kid was upfront and candid.

I just looked on 247... he committed to Iowa on August 28, 2015 and unofficially visited Nebraska on October 10, 2015. I remember people talking about it.

It happens....it completely depends on the kid and how honest and upfront they are with us

Unofficials have been allowed. Officials haven't.

I'm certain if Blair cared to weigh in on this, he would have a catalog of instances where the staff okayed a kid visiting elsewhere!

Which as I look above I see Blair responding so apparently not...I stand corrected!

Well, two things... he really is a player that looked like he had exciting upside, with that said I've learned to let this stuff sort itself out....

He was probably option #10 for Michigan. I really wonder if they would've even known about him if he wasn't part of Iowa's class?

yeah they had contacted him previously. The coach was promoting him all over. He was taking him to camps etc. Also stated more than once that he really likes Ben as an offensive player.

Man I don't miss recruiting..... Give the kid a break, most of his family/Coaches/Friends are likely Michigan fans and the kid is likely feeling a ton of pressure from them. In my dated and limited experience with this, it is usually more of the family than the player.

The part about Michigan "finding him late" is a complete joke, something happened and now they are interested in him.

If he wants to be a linebacker, he’ll not take the visit. If he takes it we move on, we always do. 2 first team all Americans moving on to the nfl, the better choice is clear. This happens every year before signing, we’re trying to do the same with a couple of QBs.

strong post.

He is a kid and the pull of an offer from your dream school has got to be rocking his world especially a 17-18 year olds world.

I would have no problem if they pull his offer and hope they do. Also have no ill will toward the young man what so ever. Do whats best for you as a student-athlete and Iowa will just continue to make Michigan their female dogs like always. Harbaugh and Fleck are complete scumbag car salesmen......

Well if he does that, as his coach says here, then not solid, nor part of Iowa's class anymore I'm sure.

Garber coach Jake Coquillard confirmed that VanSumeren plans to take an official visit to Michigan this weekend.

His high school head football coach is a douche bag and you can obviously tell he is in the kids ear about things......hope you make the right decision bc you will probably be graduating Mich. with a completely different staff. All good though, we will just continue to win on the field against them

If this is a smart kid and family, they see through Harbaugh's bs about messing up. It really comes down to Michigan missing on other higher priority targets and now calling Ben as a fall back.

It also comes down to whether he wants to play linebacker for Iowa or H back, fullback, or tightend for Michigan. That will be the deciding factor but he needs to think he could be the next Josey Jewell.

Why don't we all just chill and wait to see how this MI recruitment and his eventual signing plays out.

We don't know what's going on, but posters are saying "pull the offer", "if we get Honas who cares", "he gone", etc.

Speaking for myself, I hope we do get him, so now I wait to see if we do. That's about it and all we can do.

Agree and will Harbaugh even be there in four or five years? My bet is no, but KF will and or his son with very little change in the staff.
