Iowa Commit Ben VanSumeren offered by Michigan

I hope he did rescind the offer. They are just kids excuse is worthless. It’s gutless behavior to commit to anything and then change mind despite age. A good reason why we have so many issues nationally. How about trying this on for size kid.....honor your word or dont commit in the first place. Loser.
If this is the way you truly feel, have you posted these thoughts before when a kid flipped from another school to Iowa?

The reason we have so many issues nationally is ass-backwards old fogies like you. College football is a multi-billion dollar industry and the players aren’t getting a dime of it. If a kid wants to make a decision that is best for HIS future, he should. Doesn’t matter if you like it or not.
Actually they do get paid a stipend.

I can understand intense hatred for Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa State, or Wisconsin. Hell, I could even understand such hatred for Illinois. But why Michigan? Because they are a historically successful program? So you should also hate Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida State, Oklahoma, etc. If you are going to hate every team that is good, you are going to have A LOT of pent up hatred.
Guessing the Darboh and Oliver like cherry picking stings for many. And the true opportunity being offered, for Oliver and Ben is most likely "Ride the pine" scenario, practice squad player, slightly better street value of his Diploma, maybe at MU vs. a bigger more immediate role and time to develop at Iowa. Harbough is offering candy on the street corner luring kids for a lower purpose, lessor opportunity as a player. Only "Hate" Michigan for not honoring the greatness and example of Bo and there rightful place in College Football history with the likes of a snake oil salesmen like Harbough.

All the best to Ben and his family!

if Iowa HS admins and coaches would act like Bens and not let greasy coaches like Harbaugh on school grounds to visit a kid that has an Iowa offer that would sure help level the playing field.

That coach did everything He could to help booger eater flip Ben

Lots of skilled kids out there, this will have little to no impact on this team. Hopefully we can get the two from junior college and this will be forgotten quickly.

Right, it’s the Millennials’ fault. Everything is these days with you snowflakes. If you want to blame someone else, look in the mirror at the shitty job your generation did raising its kids. Maybe the skyrocketing divorce rate over the past 60 years has something to do with kids’ perception of commitment.

Yeah. You must be a snowflake. Just thank me. I will continue to pay for your generation of spoiled entitlement. Meanwhile, I will teach my children that hard work and honor matters. You keep being you.

When BVS sits back and analyzes the situation I feel like Iowa still has a decent shot.

* The relationship that’s been built
* The openings on the depth chart
* Our ability to put LB and TE in the NFL
* Our use of the TE in our offense
* The scheme that is set for LBs to make plays
* The fact that we’re probably in a better position to compete for championships over the next few years
* A better strength and DEVELOPMENT program.
* A more tolerant fan base

I think this’ll be a tough decision for him.

If you look at his highlight clip, it looks like his opponents have height and maybe weight restriction... less than 6 feet tall and less than 200 pounds! He looks like a man playing in a pee wee league. Not dumping on him, just observing. Hope he sticks to his commitment and becomes a Hawkeye.

Ok, I had to put this in perspective. It’s perturbing that michigan most Likely will wind up flipping Ben and he’s a good ball player from a very small farming town in Eastern Michigan so he’s a perfect fit for Iowa but the thing about Michigan is they sell their program as a perfect fit for every athlete; Farm kid, city kid, suburb kid and they have a pretty good used car salesmen in Jimmy to do it. Kid probably hasn’t slept a wink. Fact is Jimmy and all his show for a small town kid in michigan will be hard to turn down because he’d also be turning down his whole town and friends and family. But Ben although has not been a priority for michigan he is now and it’s put his little town on the map for a moment. I really don’t think Jimmy and crew will lose any sleep if Ben picks Iowa because ,Jimmy, like the guy he is went in there for all to see & piled ALL the pressure on the kid to pick Michigan and leveraged his school and town to do it! this all for a kid that probably was dreaming to play for michigan his whole life and michigan probably hadn’t taken much notice to him until last week after their higher priority guys chose elsewhere. I don’t like Michigan but good look to Ben. This Kids more familar with sugar beets and soy beans than big time recruiting and now the Shark of Ann Arbor is asking him to do something.. once again Good Luck!

By succumbing to the pressure surrounding him he is throwing away a great opportunity at Iowa to be a FB that never makes it to the NFL. It's sad if there is no one around him that he trusts that sees this for what it's worth, and gives him adequate counsel regarding his decision.

It's not over yet. Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

He did not flip from Western Michigan. Fleck left for Minnesota and Ben with drew his commitment. Later, Iowa offered and he committed last month.
Right, this has been covered. What nobody has responded to is their thoughts on the numerous kids that Iowa has flipped from other schools late in the process.

Yeah, you’re obviously a winner when you call a 17 year old you’ve never met a loser. Holy **** man, get a grip.

If the AD at my kid’s high school didn’t let Jim Harbaugh onto campus to offer my kid a scholarship and pitch the University of Michigan to him, I’d make it my personal project to make sure that he was fired.

Get a grip.

Does Michigan want him at Full back or H back?? I will say this michigan does some interesting things with their fullbacks and H backs and TE’s. Michigan uses the H back like a fullback/TE/RB/blocker

Let's not forget one other factor.

The young men in this photo will impact him as well. And I'd love to know what interaction there is with them.

There are some studs in that picture, and one 6'5" stud that didn't get there till the next day. The futures so bright, we'll need our sunglasses at night!

So here's my current take:
  • If it's a good idea today, it will be a good idea tomorrow. Once this young man lets the dust and excitement from the school visit settle down, he'll dwell on doing the right thing.
  • He loves Kirk Ferentz.
  • Just a hunch, but I'd guess he loves Doyle just as much.
  • Ben knows Iowa is a great development school that will help him in his efforts to reach his goals.
  • Sure, mom is a Michigan girl. But don't put too much stock in this. The best parents want their kids to make choices that are best for their children, not themselves.
  • We've all had good friends who tried to manipulate us. But in the end, we pretty much all do what we deem to be best for ourselves. And those of us on HR now our staff does their best to find good fits. Which means that Iowa must fit the student athlete as much as the athlete fits Iowa.
  • Ben based his decision on many factors and emotion was not his primary factor. Had this been the case, he would likely have elected to walked on at Michigan. Think about that.
This situation needs a little cooling down for Ben and his folks. If he was not a high character guy Kirk would not have offered.

I don't think Ben will break his word. I think Ben will end up at Iowa. I'd love to get @rivercityjazzman 's view.
I hope your right and he ends up in Iowa City, but I sure wouldn't bet the mortgage on it........

I was going to show Brady Hoke had the same record as Harbaugh but then noticed Paul Finebaum already did it and now I feel dirty.

in SEC country its common practice , I lived in Louisiana for years and if LSU had a commit or a kid offered the HS wouldn't let the Alabamas of the world even on campus they had to meet at the kids house , and all teams in the SEC pretty much did it . Things may have changed but the locals down there didn't roll out the red carpet that for sure and allow an out of state coach to go swimming in their pools. You get a grip and realize very few places are as welcoming as Iowa.

Now that’s what you call locking down the boarders!

Or make Him visit the kid at your house and not on campus , no ones saying He cant offer or visit Your kid but allowing Harbaugh to pitch and put on his speedos and use school facilities to take an in town kid away from the Hawkeyes I would make the same effort to see that AD fired.

Except in this case Michigan IS the home state school, so doesn't really apply. Don't really think we want to use the grimy, cheating example the SEC sets in recruiting anyway.

It would be interesting to know how many of you would honor your word to play at ISU if that was your only DI offer and then have KF make you an offer 5 days before signing day.

I would immediately flip to Iowa. The guys on here trying to act tough and calling out a kid for possibly changing his mind are losers. He should do what he thinks is best for him, regardless of the circumstances.

Yeah. Some people take recruiting far to serious. Why would anyone have hard feelings for an 18 year old kid that might change his mind to go play for the team he watched while growing up? It’s crazy.

a HS coach down there that didn't look out for the instate school would never get a chance to move up or get another job without moving out of state . Iowa

That's my point actually if You read my post, there was no cheating not allowing other teams on the HS grounds , Just made it harder and HS coaches who wanted to move up in the state and be able to coach a higher level than flag football didn't do it. This kids school brought out the band , has the coach principle and probably sunday school teacher pushing Him to Ann Arbor , not knocking the kid one bit. Iowa HS especially Iowa City shouldn't have made it so easy for Harbaugh to just jump in the pool.

BVS looks like a great recruit and i would hope he sticks with Iowa. If he does decide to flip to Michigan I don't know how anybody can blame the kid or even Michigan for going after him.

Where did you see that? Source please

Didn't see it. Heard it. The source is pretty chimed in to the FB and BB programs bc he's a big time donor who lives in IC ( hint: he lives at Brown Deer Golf coarse all summer long ) but he has made the wrong call many times so I was just throwing it out there. Could be false and I stated that already.

Gotcha, thanks

Nah. It's dependent millennials, like yourself, who haven' t the slightest clue about commitment because your mommy and/or daddy helicoptered in to find you a safe space. I could care less where this kid goes. Don't commit if you don't mean it. Not that hard of a concept really. Even for the entitled.

Hey big boy tough guy, I'm likely older than you are. You believe the same way about the QB from California who just flipped his commitment to Iowa from Oregon State?

My guess is you're some old geaser who lives and dies with the decisions of 17 year old high school kids and gets overly upset when a kid he's never met doesn't choose his school.

Will await your answer.

It's more players than just Darboh and Oliver. He's missed on every 4-star state-of-Iowa wide receiver except for K. Davis. And he woefully misused that talent. Basically getting 1 productive season out of the kid.

Does your guy look like Diamond Dallas Page and own a concrete company in IC?
