So here's my current take:
- If it's a good idea today, it will be a good idea tomorrow. Once this young man lets the dust and excitement from the school visit settle down, he'll dwell on doing the right thing.
- He loves Kirk Ferentz.
- Just a hunch, but I'd guess he loves Doyle just as much.
- Ben knows Iowa is a great development school that will help him in his efforts to reach his goals.
- Sure, mom is a Michigan girl. But don't put too much stock in this. The best parents want their kids to make choices that are best for their children, not themselves.
- We've all had good friends who tried to manipulate us. But in the end, we pretty much all do what we deem to be best for ourselves. And those of us on HR now our staff does their best to find good fits. Which means that Iowa must fit the student athlete as much as the athlete fits Iowa.
- Ben based his decision on many factors and emotion was not his primary factor. Had this been the case, he would likely have elected to walked on at Michigan. Think about that.
This situation needs a little cooling down for Ben and his folks. If he was not a high character guy Kirk would not have offered.
I don't think Ben will break his word. I think Ben will end up at Iowa. I'd love to get
@rivercityjazzman 's view.
