Iowa girls state BB

They said the girls state record margin of victory is Davenport Assumption over Red Oak back in 2013 by 46 pts

75 to 19 final

new record

Much like volleyball. If you’re close to a metro that’s all that really matters in the smaller classes.
Easier for club teams and more importantly easier for kids to switch schools to form much higher end teams.
Thats why I really respect what north linn does.

DeWitt loses a heart breaker to Norwalk :(

Pearl Brown made only one shot in Norwalk’s Class 4A quarterfinal game. But it turned out to be the most important one of all.

Brown scored on a follow shot just ahead of the buzzer to give Norwalk a 56-54 victory over Central DeWitt, saving her team to play another day after it let a 14-point lead slip away.

Central DeWitt had tied the game at 54 when Lauren Walker hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 21 seconds left. Norwalk then turned it over to freshman Braylyn Birmingham, whose contested jumper in the lane bounced off the rim.

But Brown, a 5-foot-9 junior who had missed her only previous shot in the game, was there to gather in the rebound on the left side of the basket and she banked in the game winner.

The #2 ranked 2A team, IC Regina has only lost once this season (23-1), and won their games by an average margin of 30 points.
But, that one loss came to #1 3A Mt. Vernon...by 40 points.
That's how much of a disparity there is between the classes.
Not necessarily. Regina won a mostly 3A conference. Pretty sure most of that league is 3A. Mt. Vernon is just ridiculously good.

W Marshall 11
Mt Vernon 64

3rd quarter

Wow
In your opinion, did W Marshall deserve to be in the playoffs? Between classes and divisions Louisiana now hands out about 37 (sarcasm) state championship trophies in each sport. As a result, teams with losing records are ending up in the playoffs because there’s not enough teams to fill the bracket, and they’re getting clobbered.

No idea and I don’t care

I just like watching basketball

Any age or league (except the U of I mens team)

Yep with all the privates schools have an Advantage talk. The real advantage is to be a small town within commuting distance of a big city. MV, Solon, Williamsburg, van meter, grundy center etc.

Mt Vernon is just that good, and I don't see a 3A team staying within 15 points.
The school is top shelf in all sports and gets a few moveins every year.
Mt Vernon seems to always have tall girls athletes, that sure helps.
I think one of their key players transferred from Xavier, I'd say it was a good move for her.

Jeez. Maybe girls shouldn't play sports, period. Looks like they can't even compete with themselves, let alone the trans.

Not sure on the transfers in basketball.
The State champion volleyball team had three transfers in.

The announcers said that both Hinton and Rock Valley basically remade their teams with transfers. With 2A Rock Valley bringing in a 1,000 point career scorer out of 5A Sioux City East.

Yep, just double checked. 2A Rock Valley added the second and third leading scorers from a 5A Sioux City East team that went 18-6 last season.

Regina's starting center played at Vinton Shellsburg last year.

First time it has snowed during the girl's state tournament since 2015, and only the 11 day in the last 45 years with more than 1" of snow during the tournament.

It looks like our tournament earned its bad weather reputation int he late 1950’s and early ‘60s. Beginning with the famous 1959snowed-in sock hop, the next four years all had significant snowfall.4.4 inches fell in Des Moines at that 1959 tournament. In 1960, the weather was terrible. It snowed every day in the capital city that week with over six total inches of snow. Eight more inches fell in 1961, when the tournament was held in Waterloo due to a national bowling tournament at Vets’ (it should be noted that only 2.9 inches of snow fell in Des Moines that year). Eight inches of snow fell on the Thursday session of the 1962 tournament while the four more inches welcomed fans on opening day of the 1963 tournament. After championship night of the 1965 tournament brought 1.2 inches of snow, 13 years would pass before the state tournament would have a day when more than one inch of snow would hit the ground (1.4inches in 1978). In the last 40 tournaments, there have just 10 dates with more than one inch of snowfall. In this time, the temperatures haven’t been terrible either. The overall average of the tournament is in the 40’s but there have been a number of dates where temperatures have reached the 70’s and there are two days where it has been over 80 degrees. We won’t go on record to say that it is a myth that the girls state basketball tournament and bad weather go hand-in-hand. The Des Moines Register’s Gene Raffensperger did that in a 1990 story and Des Moines was hit with an ice storm so bad that the lights briefly went out with four minutes remaining in South Tama’s game against Maquoketa. Thanks to the efforts of former IGHSAU intern Jori Nieman and guidance from the National Weather Service in Des Moines to several web links, we’ve provided a weather chart that lists the high and low temperatures and snowfall of every day of the state tournament, and we’ll let you decide.

I had no idea there were transfers in for volleyball. I suppose that makes some sense with the sustained success.

True, but she was not a full time starter, was a freshman and VS went 7-16 last season. So, clear transfer advantage to both Hinton and Rock Valley.

Rock Valley has sisters named Haevyn and Hudsyn? Sounds like a couple of parents need to be slapped upside the head IMO.
Wifey (no pic) has a nephew with an 18-month old named Kollyns. Solid job prospects to follow to be sure.

Sweet.

Close, so far the girls that have played for RV are Brynlie, Haevyn, Hudsyn, Kavri, Miylie, Caydence and Tielyr. Kavri Van Kekerix I would assume to be the sister of Iowa FB player Landyn.

I just always thought it would be frustrating as f*ck to have your name spelled incorrectly for your entire life and/or always have to spell it out for someone when they ask.

But I guess we all can't just be named Ed and Dan and Kate
