Iowa has given up

you mean our NBA prospect Payton? LOL
He's laid more bricks this season that guys who lay bricks for a living.
He was making zero impact outside of a game or two. He stinks on defense too, quite possibly the worst defender on the team.
There is one human on the team that stinks.

91.2 ppg over the last 5 games.

During that period Iowa let another team set arena records for a place the was built 27 years ago.

The trend is worsening as Iowa has given up 96.5 ppg over the last two games to teams with winning percentages under 70%.
Lol you all are acting surprised like this wasn't going to happen with the given roster going into the season coupled with the head coach.............

One of Fran's core strategies is to try to score off opponent made baskets, so the recent trend of giving up 90+ points a game is all part of the Fran strategy.

I doubt the Hawk players have given up, but they are confused on defense and Fran doesn't field lineups that are a good compromise
between defense/rebounding and offense. Harding really makes the offense roll---Fran loves that, but every opposing team has
guards that can get Harding isolated in paint and score over top of him. Payton is another guy that opens up the offense with shooting
ability---but he gets scored on very easily in paint when playing PF and he gets beat off the dribble if he's playing the "3." We have
a roster that Fran created that has weak links. Whether Fran will rejigger the lineups and finish strong is possible. Fran is
very consistent about 0.500 level Big10 Basketball. I doubt we see a terrible year with 6-8 wins in conference. Another Mediocre year at around 10-10 is still very much possible. Getting to 11-9 or better in conference seems like a stretch right now because they haven't shown
any ability to win on the road and the rebounding/defense is clearly a disaster with Fran's small ball lineup. Go Hawks. Pretty good chance we beat Minny, but Garcia lit us up last year---good chance he scores 30 pts if he doesn't get injured shooting and making too many baskets.

I think the truth is that they're just not good enough. They can get hot some nights and pull off a nice win, but that's not a sustainable game plan. Right now, they are 355th in rebounding margin. 326th in scoring defense. 306th in offensive rebounds. 258th in free throw percentage. 204th in 3-point percentage defense. Statistics aren't everything, but when they start to pile up against you, they do mean something. They are 9th in 3-point percentage, but that's not enough to overcome the deficiencies against better teams.

But 355th in rebounding margin is the big one, along with 306th in offensive rebounds (my point that they must rely on hot shooting). They get hammered on the boards most nights, and unless they are shooting lights out, those are hard games to win.
