Iowa Highschool Tournament

Kid is a stud no doubt, but even though he could probably step in and do well. Much rather see him take a red shirt and Brands man the spot for another year.

Kueter is special, what a career. Have to think he'll have a limited Kyle Snyder-esque schedule his whole career. Bowl games usually run late december/early Jan. All that matters is him getting into top wrestling shape in time for B1Gs and NCAA's while being healthy. My guess is he might even have less chance for injuries if he's not going through the grind of an entire wrestling season. As long as he finds time in the off-season to get mat time, maybe wrestle some freestyle and improve, I think we'll be okay.
It would be amazing to have kueter compete for 4 seasons as talent wise he is def the best option. But it would be foolish to put too many eggs in this basket. More often than not guys end up picking one sport over the other.

Seeing as how football is going in the sh***er under the Ferentz Family Business model, I think wrestling would be the way to go for him........

Tigerguy, I know it's hard work but you have to spend a little time setting people straight over on cyfanatics. Some of the stuff that get thrown around there is serious SMH material. Someone claiming Arnold was wrestling 195 and 220 for Wyoming Sem and the long term weight cut will be a problem going forward.

I totally get how you could get Arnold and Franklin mixed up.. not

Win a couple NCAA titles, win some defensive NCAA Football awards, go to the NFL... Just long enough for Ross from Fort Dodge to step in

You have to understand the psyche of ISU fans.

Being lil bro, forever, taints your world view. Jealousy/envy are powerful emotions.

Personally, I find their ignorance amusing. And it's great entertainment.

And after graduation, if he's good enough to get drafted into the NFL, which path would you take?
Part of that decision will all have to do with how interested he is in avoiding chronic traumatic encephalopathy. These days, there absolutely is a path for an elite wrestler, especially a heavyweight wrestler, to make a very comfortable living. If he achieves the kind of success on the mat that seems likely, he will have multiple endorsement opportunities that could prove to be quite lucrative. He would also be compensated for winning international competition. He would have the opportunity to earn a substantial income as a coach, and he could potentially earn a ton doing the fake stuff, like Gable Steveson is. Lots of potential for earning without the risk of a debilitating brain injury.

If he ends up, earning a whole bunch of money during his college years through his name, image, and likeness, that could influence his decision, as well. If he starts off after graduation, with a bunch of money in the bank, he may not feel the need to pursue the kind of pay that could come with an NFL career, considering the risks.

Some validity. No risk in cage fighting. Also our definition of substantial compensation may be different.

Well, he wants to play two sports. On one hand, he could become a millionaire overnight, but there will always be an inherent risk for both short term, and lasting long term injuries.

Whereas with the other sport, on the professional side of things, guys get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars just to do this.......

Have they posted Gabe's family's bank records yet? Or maybe a 23andMe on BK trying to prove his name isn't really Ben Kueter but is instead an international war criminal wanted by Interpol?

I do that all the time and nobody has ever paid ME for it! 😔

Kueter is certainly very good at Football but in the grand scheme of things his wrestling abilities put him in a much smaller and more exclusive pool of talent in the wrestling world than his football skills put him in that world.
yeah a lot of weird assumptions about him being a sure thing football monster. do you guys know how many 5 stars don't even become good college players, let alone make the nfl? and he's not even a 5 star. i've seen some highlights, and granted i'm not a scout by any means, but i've never been wowed.

I think that could be considered a jackass comment to call a kid a jackass. Apologies, but that is a bad look from one of our Iowa leaders.
I’m sorry, you’re right, I felt that is how he acted. Not that he is one.

After this weekend, I now have $56.72 in my checking account. . . . Looking for someone to adopt my kid. I’m also willing to rent him on work-release. Just sayin.

Papa Arnold, thoughts on the iowa tourney compared to others?
I’ll be honest….. I was OVERWHELMED. I’m not a big crowd person. It’s hard to watch my kid compete in an arena like that where so many people are screaming for him and screaming against him, but that’s where he THRIVES so I’ll always be there to support him. This honestly blew his Fargo title, and national prep titles out of the water. Never seen an atmosphere so electric for HIGH SCHOOL wrestling! Didn’t really care for the one match a day, but the ran it like a put together symphony.

Totally a 10-out-of-10 experience.

Iowa deals in unheralded recruits. Jack Campbell was a 3 star, relatively unknown recruit coming out of high school at 6'3" 200lbs. If Kueter can put in the work, which all evidence points to yes, then he can do well. Level jumps for defensive players happen routinely at Iowa.

It will be interesting to see how he handles both sports in college.

There’s this place called Carver that you might find a bit overwhelming. Good luck!

If my son was talented enough to go play defense at Iowa, I’d hope he would take it. One of the top defenses in the country, and the development under Parker’s guidance is top notch. Now, if he was being recruited for a skill position on the offense….hard pass 😃. Lol.

I was able to watch the finals on the app last night, and I had the pleasure of watching your son wrestle for the first time live. All I can say is wow. So powerful and explosive. I think my two legs combined aren’t as big as one of your son's legs. Granted, my legs are like spaghetti noodles...but impressive nonetheless lol :). Congratulations to you and your son. You guys must be so proud of him, and it will be exciting to see him wear the black and gold for the next couple of years. Cheers!

Thank you. Very proud. It’s been a pleasure watching, and being a part of his journey. Looking forward to the next part.

For selfish reasons, I wish Keuter could concentrate on wrestling exclusively for 5 years. I do kinda think it's gonna take Iowa Football S&C to help him put on those 30+ lbs of good weight to be NCAA HWT champ. Catch-22

Your sense of humor is much appreciated!! Keep it up. A nice counter balance to some of the turd throwing on here.
Got to take it all with a grain of salt. The truth is I'm a Multi-Millionaire. TnT never made Gabe an offer. I had to call and offer to pay them to let my kid wrestle for them. When the new facility is finished, there will be the last disability stall in both the women's and men's bathroom named after my father...... because he was truly a $#!thead. (very dark complexion) The donations were pricey, but well worth it. I know my kid will probably never even see the mat, what it cost me for his 41 wins this year...... I'll be driving the pinto for awhile. But Hell Yeah! Go Hawks, right?

I think BTN should bring you in to provide color commentary during Iowa matches.
