IOWA is DEAD LAST in the B1G in NIL. "Coaching prospects won't be beating down Iowa’s door unless Iowa invests in the program."

Fran WILL NOT be here next year. He should have been fired 5+ years ago… he’s done… 💯 he is done at the end of the season … Zero chance he gets another season… this has been building for years ….

i think you are right.

i just hope Beth finds a coach who does not struggle the way Jan Jensen is

Is there anyone that debates #2? Including fran himself.
I would bet that McCaffery would be willing to debate #2. We've been told on numerous occasions that the team has worked hard on defense and rebounding as a leadup to a game.. Do you think they are lying? It just may be that the players on the floor just are not concentrating on those two aspects of the game (or just can't handle them, which is more likely).

You all want DeVries.

Well, he's gonna have to want Iowa.

Chad is a long time beat writer for the Des Moines Register, of course.

This program has a lot of issues besides the head coach.

What coaching jobs are ADs fighting off all the prospects that come calling?

Everyone wants Devries. But does he want IOWA? And if he does, before he commits to Iowa, he's gonna want to see some guarantees from the the Goetz administration (ie, investing in the program with a Carver renovation, free tickets to attract students, etc).

It might ge interesting to nite that Bo Ryan was twice passed as head coach at UWiacinsin before gaining the position on his third attempt.
Bo was a product of the UW system and applied for the job when he was at Plattvile and then mate when he was at UW-Milwaukee. He was finally hired at Madison after a couple of Barry targets turned down the job and it was getting late in the hiring process. Probably the best slow hire Barry ever made.

B1G $$ should put us over the top.

$5-$6M/yr talks pretty loud.

The chatter about “investment” in the program is nonsense.

you think Iowa will pay the next Head Coach $5M to $6M/year?

you don't think Carver needs a renovation?

you think Iowa is spending money wisely on the MBB program to help it succeed?

I could see Devries getting $5M to start, ramping up to $6-$7M by the end of an 8-yr contract.

What renovations does Carver really need?

Reallocate some seating and give students better incentives to attend.

With a quality product Carver still gets packed and loud.

Just pay the coach and the players.

All I know regarding the renovation is that they are looking at what's possible and trying to get donors lined up

Beth wants to put students behind the benches but that means moving donors. Not sure where things are with that.

Revenue sharing is coming; how they split that up among the 13 scholarship players will be interesting.

On a non DeVries, McCollum idea. Bucky McMillan from Samford does look interesting. Went straight from high school head coach to head coach at Samford. Multiple 20 win seasons later…

I've watched a decent amount of Samford games the past couple years. Bucky runs up-tempo, high volume three-pt shooting offenses and full press and turnover defense. It certainly fits Iowa's overall culture and identity, and that would be probably be a problem for many fans due to similarities with Fran-style ball. Winning cures all of course.

“Program” doesn’t mean much in basketball in new environment.

You need a good coach and 2-3 top shelf players. Those 2-3 players cost NIL money. For enough money the players will play anywhere.

NIL made winning at basketball pretty simple. Throw a butt load of money at a coach and three players and you can win big time.

Playing defense means, of course, getting steals and rebounding the ball, which means possessing the ball. And when you possess the ball, you have the opportunity to score.

You'd think that because of this, Fran would have stressed defense more, because defense leads to offense.

Sure. So simple.

Do you think the Iowa job is an attractive one?
Good question. We’re still a Big Ten job which is a top 2 conference in the country. There’s only so many of those jobs. However, if what you say is true about being last out of 18 teams and basically zero fan support right now (2nd fiddle to the women even) it could certainly cause some coaches to pause. As fans it’s definitely time to step it up. There’s a terrible aura around the program right now.

In this video they discuss that Iowa is #18 out of the 18 B1G teams when it comes to NIL compensation. That has to change, no matter who the coach is.

Simple to find good Coach ? No

The formula for a good college basketball program has a lot less inputs than football.

it’s why the Big East can be a factor in basketball but never ever in football.

The Big East is a basketball conference. All of the big donor money goes to Men's basketball.

At Iowa, all the big donor money is going to football
