Iowa / ISU pbp

one team looks hungry and is wrestling with their hair on fire. the other…..
The motivation for them is definitely there with the history and our depleted lineup. Not an excuse to come in flat, but not surprised at all to see the Cyclones fully revved up. We need a spark somewhere soon.

At this point/score, it isn’t fair to PK or Arnold to wrestle them up for some kind of Hail Mary. Save Arnold for another day, ket Swafford have his time in the sun.

Well I was optimistic at the start of this meet but now I’m a little concerned. Gonna need to avoid bonus at 165 and heavy. Hopefully kennedy and Gabe handle their weight bump well enough. That Teske loss really hurt our chances here.

First stall call was horrendous but Real got bailed out big time on that no-call. He should've been more aggressive from the start
I thought the call was right since they scrapped the rear standing hand touch TD. Not sure about the clock stopped at one second though. But agree, he needed to come out more aggressive.

Franek showed some good hips/movement in that match. Also had a heavy front headlock that slowed Chittum down.

Chittum is for real and is ranked lower than he should be imo. Franek is probably a little highly ranked aswell. Franek is Probaby 4-5th and Chittum 8-9ish imo
Who you moving ahead of Franek? Robb? Teemer? Andonian?

I think he's ranked about where he should be given his 4th place finish and results to start the season.

And, in fact, all the more reason to come in motivated.

Little Brother sneaks in a solid sucker punch, good on him. You let Little Brother connect on a telegraphed haymaker, bad on you.

I love Brands, I truly do. But god damn it’s time for him to step down. We simply spiral further and further out of control ever year. We need someone that can recruit AND develop. He ain’t it.

I hope he’s happy with the decisions he’s made.
Tom hasn't figured out why his wrestlers do the exact opposite of what he claims he tells them to do. Something's not right here.

You can't be mad at these stall calls. This is what we've all wanted. The ISU wrestlers have been WAY more aggressive than us. How many actual shots have we even taken now through the first 6 matches?

Our biggest problem is that most officials don't actually make these calls...it just so happens we've got the one ref who will make the calls when we're the less aggressive team.

Yikes. So far it's a showcase of everything that has been wrong with Iowa for the past decade. Lack of offense. Lack of ability to finish. Lack of urgency. One first-period TD so far. Our #1 and #2 both within a split second of losing. Whew.
The confusing thing is both brands as competitors were all offense, always finished like dog on bone, and total sense of urgency even when they were up by 12. They wrestled every second like they needed points to win….yet they cant teach or instill it on high level kids. Great wrestlers poor leaders/coaches! Need a fresh change from outside program. Imo

We’ve got work to do.
We’ve gotta keep moving forward.
We have to be smart.
We need to wrestle our match.
We’re not number one.

No. Just no. Caliendo was aggressive the entire match. Zero stalls warranted.

Caliendo stayed in the middle of the mat, I'll give you that. Carr was the aggressor the entire match. The amount of shots for Carr vs. Caliendo wasn't close.
