Iowa/ISU women's game

It's great that Doyle only had 1 turnover. I do wish she could have made a few more layups. She must have missed 5 or 6 of them. Some of them were tough shots for sure, but she missed a couple of easy ones too. Glad to see Taimo contributed tonight, hitting 3 threes and playing good defense. She hardly got any playing time the last few games. On the flip side, Marshall didn't score tonight. Freshman jitters, I guess.

Hard to believe both Iowa and Iowa State only had 13 turnovers. It felt like Iowa State had a lot more and that was their undoing. Iowa played really hard on defense, which contributed to Iowa State's 32% shooting percentage. And I'm sure their players were emotionally affected by Coach Fennelly's dad's passing this morning.

Iowa played great, but it definitely helped ISU played awful. Have to wonder if the team was affected by the Fennelly news. ISU's non-conference schedule has been full of cupcakes too (as usual) which doesn't help when you then play a tough team.

I'm not sure I would characterize the way Iowa played as "great."

An impressive win for Iowa. For me, first opportunity to watch the ladies post-Gustafson.

Good ballhandlers for Iowa but my god, how many offensive rebounds did ISU get? I counted 4 on one possession in the 2nd half.
Czinaro can score like Gustafson, but she can't rebound like Gustafson. Last year all the missed shots by the opposing teams just magically flew into Gustafson's hands. Not any more.

I think the story on Bluder not recruiting Joens is pretty well known. Lisa wanted absolutely nothing to do with the old man.

The Joens clan was pretty bitter, but I'll trust Bluder's judgment.

BTW: Every time ISU loses to Iowa, in any sport, I like to get the perspective of ISU fans on their forum. So... to summarize tonite's game
1. Refs screwed the Clones and let Iowa mug our gals
2. Gals didn't respond because Coach was out of sorts
3. ISU will win next season
4. Doyle is a dirty player.

SSDD.

Regarding the Joens clan... When Bluder didn't recruit the oldest Joens girl, Courtney?, the old man became very critical of the Iowa program and I believe made several social media comments about Iowa WBB.

Some times regardless of talent and/or logistics... it just isn't worth the hassle to get certain kids on your team.

Watched from start to finish--exciting game

the Hawks just never gave up---the usual Bluder true grit players

Doyle and Meyer were outstanding all night

three senior have won four straight from Clones !!!

all game needed defensive rebounding

nevertheless a great win in Cy Hawk competition !!!

My favorite part of last night. End of the game, Doyle gets fouled and goes to the line with around 6 seconds left. She yells, "yeahhh lets goooo hawks!!!" The female official says something to her and Doyle said, "I just said Lets go hawks, sorry if that bothers you." And rolls her eyes.

I love her fire!

Fennelly news= convenient excuse.

Her dad is not allowed in several gyms across Eastern Iowa. At one time I thought that included City High's gym. Guy has been the scene of some epic rants.
He actually posted on this forum a few times IIRC. Kinda bitter sounding and eventually just exited.

I know beating ISU in any sport is pretty normal, but it's still fun seeing and reading about the Clone frustration after every loss.

The dead ball fouls should either carry a few seconds runoff or be 2 FTs and ball out of bounds because they are intentional.
i was impressed with Joens play but she was only 7 for 20 from the field. Good getting rebounds.
I also wonder why Martin did not play. Hope it's not a problem with her knee.

Fire is great, but you can have it without her occasional whiny attitude toward the refs (and WBB officiating is often poor but that's another issue). If I were Bluder I'd tell Doyle if she thinks something needs to be said to the refs, let me know and I'll say it.

It is a self-fulfilling prophesy. Ever since Doyle was a freshman, it sure looks like the mostly incompetent BT refs have it out for her. Kathleen can get knocked to the floor driving the lane, and it will still be either a charging foul on her or no harm no foul.

Doyle needs to be careful of her reactions to fouls for example. Last night she threw a little fit early, and in a Big Ten game sometime, that could bite her. She's the leader though.
