Iowa makes Hall's top 5

Flo is just trying to get under Iowa fan's skin.... Brush it off guys he's down to 2 schools and 1 more that you can't rule out. My info was from 4 days ago. Lets just say I'll be extremely suprised if he ends up East of the Mississippi.

Spoons is Iowa one of the two? And the recruiting info in Suriano and Happel would be awesome. Thanks in advance!

Well, now I know. But do they Wash or Warsh their clothes? I've always considered Wisconsin/Illinois border to be the cut off line.
No idea, but randomly, out of my family of 7, all of whom grew up just outside Philadelphia, I say warsh and Warshington, but no one else does. I have no idea how the hell that happened.

The different idioms and such by region is pretty interesting. PBS had some great shows awhile back about it.

Hall, Lee, Suriano, Happel, Moore and Rathbun are guys that I am excited to see where they land. I will add to the fact that I will be Extremely suprised if we don't get 3 of these guys. Also there are 2 stud sophomores(soon to be juniors) that they are going after really hard but that's for another day....

There is a plan and if they don't get Hall then we will have to move on to plan B so to speak. Iowa is in the hunt for all of the kids I listed and we'll just have to wait and see how it all develops. Its hard to say where they all will land but rest assured the staff is doing all they can to get some of these young men.

Just in straight from the mouth of Willie from Flo himself!
This isn't a rumor but 100 percent fact!

According to Willie....
Billy likes to drink SODA!

And, brace for this one....
Miss Lippy's car is GREEN!

Hall has gone through great lengths to announce this...doesn't anyone think they would be willing to throw out some disinformation? I'm with Sloe...if we get him, great. If not, move on.

Sandor45, this may come as a surprise to you, but most on this board and most that wear Hawkeye colors don't give 2 F_ _ _ S what Willie is saying.

on a side note I think Willie should have his nickname changed from "smalls' to "namedropper". I have meet some big time name droppers in my life and he may take the cake. We get it Willie you hang out in the hard to crack inner circle of high school and college wrestling.

So are the fans ok with a combo that includes Happel, Rathburn and Moore but none of the other 3? How about Happel, Rathburn and Suriano but none of the other 3?
FWIW, I don't see either of the above combos I mentioned happening.

happel rathburn, moore, marinelli, and young looks like a strong well rounded class to me,i am sure some would be less than thrilled with it. me I want guys who want to be here.i want hall but if he is not feeling it good luck to him.

I'd be OK with it, mostly because we have no say in the matter, and there are a TON of factors that go into signing everyone you'd really like to sign. Those 2 groups you mentioned are all fine young wrestlers. One thing I never want to see, is Iowa passing on in-state comparable talent. Bring'em in and Coach'em up.

Per Andy Hamilton's article on Hawk Central, Tommy B and Morningstar had an in-home visit with Suriano this week, so it appears they are very serious in wanting to land him. How much can and do they offer him however? The money changes the game. In my completely biased opinion, if money were not a factor, Iowa would have won several more NCAA Titles than they have since Gable retired. I just can't imagine too many young wrestlers not wanting to wrestle in front of that many fans home and away as what Iowa draws and has drawn for decades. Seems to me like that would be a pretty neat deal to be a part of, given a choice.

We've got some really good to great talent already on the way. How good and who joins them remains to be seen. I'm sure most Iowa fans were giddy with joy when we landed a whole bunch of guys who will remain nameless, that did little and some absolutely nothing in Iowa City. But stuff happens on the way to the top of the mountain. It will happen again, so you get who you get and keep your fingers crossed it all works out.

It's really too bad the ncaa doesn't allow outside funding to be used towards scholarship funding. I'm sure we could easily round up 1,000 hawk wrestling fans to pitch in $100/year and provide another 4 scholarships. Not sure why this isn't allowed if the extra funds only go directly to scholarships, but too bad it isn't.

It would basically allow boosters to dictate who the top teams are. Some teams would be able to offer a full ride to every single kid they really wanted while most others would still be limited to the 9.9 every year.

If that were the case, I'd have to dump the Hawks and jump on the Bill Gates University bandwagon.............................. They'd have some hellish battles with Warren Buffet State I suspect.

There are many who do, have, and will in the future attempt to buy Championships. Sports is supposed to be the ultimate endeavor into "fairness". Theoretically its supposed to be an even playing field. The fact is it never has been, and never will be, but the premise is good. There is nothing "fair" about who has the most money to spend.

Think Cam Newton. Think Yankees. Think SMU Death Penalty. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

But I'm sure Oregon loves Phil Knight, Oklahoma State loves them some T. Boone Pickens, and to a much smaller dollar amount Iowa loved them some Roy Carver.

He with the most money ultimately wins I suppose, but it shouldn't be a factor in Sport (but always will be to some degree).

"Outside funding" is most certainly allowed for scholarships as it makes up a huge component of athletic department funding. However, 9.9 is the limit to keep some semblance of competitive balance.

You're not sure why this isn't allowed? That's a joke, right?

Please... why don't you two clowns get a room at the local Motel 6, and leave the intelligent discussion to the big boys? Or better yet... try and contribute something related to the original topic!

So this long thread goes off on about 6 tangents and this is your insightful first post on it?

Then again, your schtick on here is to be an angry dick, so why change now.

I guess if you don't care for what I post, there's always another option for you... go back to the Ped State site and rub McAndrew's back and tell him how much you appreciate all the crap he plagiarizes.

Flos top 100 list does not have Iowa listed among the top 5 for Suriano, Happel and Yates. 3 individuals that are regularly discussed as having interest in Iowa. Willie has stated he gets this info directly from the recruits.

Iowa is listed for Hall though.

One more reason not to pay for that site!

Well, there's either some secret commitments going on, or we are all going to be highly disappointed when the verbals start coming in.

Do we really think that these kids care enough to keep Willie from Flo up to date with where they are thinking of going? I am sure a couple do, but my guess most care less. These guys get enough calls as it is, that I am sure answering Willie's calls and keeping him up to date on their college choices are pretty low on their priorities.

Also if he just put out what was on every interview and article that everyone has access to already than what draw would his list have for people to pay for a premium membership.

We should save these and see how many he misses even having the team they end up going to on his list.

There is a big difference between offering a few more scholarships to guys then what was done in the cam newton and smu situations, not a fair comparison and I think some of you misinterpreted my original post. Just think it's ridiculous to only offer 9.9 scholarships to a sport that has 10 starters is all.

Suriano and Happel both have Iowa listed.

So you hate every other Hawkeye sports program that isn't wrestling, especially football?

Surianos was for sure updated cuz he originally only had three schools listed, Iowa not being one. Now has six listed, Iowa being one. Happel perhaps I missed Iowa when I originally looked or it was also updated.

I think they've been in the process of updating and things may appear incorrect for short periods of time. I will say that these lists are only a snapshot and several of these guys may commit to schools not on their lists. Michael Kemerer didn't list Iowa last year and he was a top 10 recruit that ended up committing to the hawks. If one of the big time schools starts going hard at a guy late, many of them will certainly listen. Take the lists for what they are worth, a nice discussion topic

Agreed. Didn't mean to imply that these lists are binding in any way. Totally a snapshot in time. Unsure of how much consistent editing goes into the lists once they are created. As a fan I would much rather have my team listed than not listed though. It will be interesting to see how Halls decision will shift the recruiting landscape. I presume the recruiting trail will remain fairly stagnant(compared to previous years) until Hall commits.

I don't think that is true. As far as the waiting on Hall thing that is. There have been other highly sought after recruits before Hall and the other dozens of kids in the class didn't wait until the 1 guy announced... especially when the 1 guy has made it clear he won't be committing any time soon.

If you agree that these lists are to be taken with a grain of salt and only a snapshot in time, etc., why did you go out of your way to bring them up on the Iowa board? I think the answer to this question is pretty clear to all of us.
