Iowa moving students closer to the floor at Carver

Should we start the prediction game for tonight? The over/under at 11,273. Are we going on scanned tickets or announced attendance?

This must have been another great idea in this thread, it seems to have found it's way into another thread like several others have from this thread. I guess original content isn't their thing. They probably could save some time by just copy and pasting or just the link next time instead of just changing a word or two.

It didn’t look good on TV. The people there seemed enthusiastic. Bring back the old (pre JHF) FB knothole ticket concept. Might have some feelings hurt but the day before the game announce a $5 ticket if you bring someone under the age of 14 with you. They have lost a generation and a half of fans by not getting kids to games……

It’s like a Pavlovian dog. Ring the bell…. Must type response.
We are here trying to think of constructive things to do to help attendance.

Maybe with a student season ticket to football, you get a free ticket to a basketball big ten game. Need to go on line to select your game. 3k free max per game.

End of the day they have to win and show promise it is a real competitive program and not another flame out.

More good ideas coming out of this thread, keep them coming. I like it

It is refreshing to see a thread keep popping up to the top with actual suggestions and ideas to address the problem.
Way better than a thread that takes ideas from this thread or just just posts random stuff on cue after this thread updates with good ideas.

Would there be a boost if the halftime/timeout entertainment were better? Maybe be some million dollar half court shots with having 20 kids get a shot? Some number outside of the traditional one person one shot stuff.
Thoughts?

What about some type of reward for the more times your ticket is scanned? Special seat upgrade? Front row of the student section?
Extra bonus if you attend the directional school pre conference games?

Just let the students in for free until you start to get a culture of it being the place to be. the $5-10 a game you miss out on isn't going to hurt the athletic department any more than having the embarrassment that it our current student section.

That's a great point. Parking for football games is a pain to, so I don't think it has much to do with location. I don't make many games, but when I do, it seems to be a lack of enthusiasm. Give the marketing department a challenge, to better the in-game experience.
The AD should have done something before the season started to incentivize students and the general public to attend the games. Things like free tickets for students and lower prices for the non conference games for the general public.

This. I always hear that our athletic dept is flush with B1G TV cash.

Free administration to students and a voucher for a free soda, pizza, and cone.

I think they'll survive that monetary hit. Plus, you might be creating more LIFELONG fans that will spend THOUSANDS of dollars on Iowa Athletics after graduation.

Creating the next generation of fans is an investment.

It took awhile to get to this stage. There isn’t a short term fix. What should be first?

Guy is slipping, took over an hour to bump this time. His monitors must have been sleeping.

Where is a school similar to Iowa that has an outstanding student fan base? Not a MSU or Duke but a upper middle of the road team. Is there anything we can learn from what they do and bring it to Iowa?

Uh oh, it has been mentioned that I posted outside of acceptable hours. My bad.

Are there any engineers out there who can determine if it is possible to build a middle mezzanine like was originally proposed? Or is it too cost prohibitive?

Not sure where but someone asked for some information. Hopefully I provided this within the accepted posting hours. I don't have my kids following the message boards to regurgitate some copy and paste x threads or to see which thread is where on the board. The good news is this thread has provided suggestions and ideas on ways to address the problem rather than just saying 'we have a problem'....ya think?

"Due to a schedule problem, it was necessary to move to the public hearing on the Hawkeye Sports Arena."
"HAWKEYE SPORTS ARENA/RECREATION PROJECT. President Petersen called the meeting to order at 1:00 p.m., Central Standard Time, on February 20, 1980, on the campus of the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa."
"Fans aren’t the only ones who feel this way about Carver. Recently retired Director of Recreational Services Harry Ostrander, who helped in the planning of Carver, said he pushed for Carver to have a center concourse so elderly fans didn’t have so far to walk up and down stairs, as well as luxury suites in the arena, so some of Iowa’s wealthier supporters could enjoy games in style. Neither happened."

You’ve got students wanting to bring the energy, but then the long-time fans don’t want to give up their prime seats. It’s kind of like managing student rentals—gotta keep everyone happy without stepping on too many toes. I’ve dealt with this kind of thing before with a property management company Kingston, trying to figure out how to make things work for students and other tenants in the same building.

How many students/fans made the trip? Sure wish Iowa would put in a middle mezzanine like originally planned for Hawkeye arena
