Iowa moving students closer to the floor at Carver

Sell some beer down on the floor. 1st beer/soda FREE for students... Sell that sh*t at a discount after that first free one for students. Most are already paying out the nose for tuition, so don't over charge them for food/drinks at the damn game. That just encourages staying at home with a Frozen pizza and beer/soda.
I like the way you think

With all of that open space down on the floor can they bring a few Carver Cone machines down there to serve the students?
This idea must have been pretty solid. I noticed a couple of hours after I posted this it made its way to another thread.

I guess imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Not sure why that poster felt compelled to post it elsewhere rather than discuss it here where it was originally posted. Didn’t even give me credit. Reminds me of that jackwagon who tried to take credit for the idea for the wave.

I didn't see that they moved the ice cream machines yet or set up the bar on the lower level so the crowd was fairly pedestrian last night. Time to move this crowd to the top. Imitators and idea copiers be damned......

Maybe start a ‘Go Fund Me’ program to buy the blue hairs out of those seats….. and get the ice cream machines and a bar down in that empty space

My grandma had blue/purple hair. She died when I was in 7th grade. One of my classmates asked if my blue-haired grandma was coming to Grandparents day in 8th grade and I said 'No, she died of cancer two months ago.' I hope that girl still remembers what a catty b!tch she was.

Great idea! Let's launch a herd of drunken students into the night after the games. What could go wrong?

csb?

Much appreciated. We need to get those students down by the floor!!!! Maybe we need others to contribute to this concept. Keeping it at the top of the discussion is important.
I wonder if it would be possible to have a high school student section. Get some of the younger kids in before they start college to help grow their fandom. Offer them at a price somewhere between the college price and full price.

I like that idea

Anyone else start that way? Going to games young?

I did. First started going to Carver in 1989, obviously a helluva time to start. Carver was absolutely electric for men’s basketball through the 90s and the early Alford years. If Iowa gets a new coach, with new hope and shows some success, fans would come back to carver in droves for men’s basketball.

I do enjoy how ideas generated in this thread spark the exact same ideas in other threads. Plagarism is not just for Harvard presidents any more.

Went to my first football game around 1968 or 69.

First basketball game was in the Fieldhouse (I miss that place-it provided a level of home court advantage that Carver has never had) for the ‘69-70 team. Got to see a few of those. Unfortunately that spoiled me as a fan.

When the day comes to replace Carver, it should be a modernized version of the Fieldhouse, maintaining the noise level and closeness of fans to the court.

Attendance at last night's game?
Students have left for the holiday I assume.
I decided a couple of years ago when we pissed away talent like Garza, and the Murray bros , that Iowa will always be mediocre under Fran. They have never and will never get past the first weekend of the tournament. Therefore I try not to get too emotionally invested in the team, and I sure as hell won’t spend any money going to games while he’s the coach. I’m done going to games until the athletic department decides that mediocre just isn’t good enough anymore.

Now it becomes the chicken or the egg theory. If we stop supporting does it drift further away and make it more challenging? That was JHF's joke about why Iowa was appealing to him. If the stadium is mostly full when they are losing and they cheer a first down imagine what happens if we win and score a touchdown.

Fair, but I had season tickets for 8 years. I just get tired of spending the time and money when I feel like nothing is going to change.

Do you know what the attendance was at the game?

If students can sit outside for 4 hours for football, they should be able to walk 25 minutes to Carver.

That's a great point. Parking for football games is a pain to, so I don't think it has much to do with location. I don't make many games, but when I do, it seems to be a lack of enthusiasm. Give the marketing department a challenge, to better the in-game experience.
