Once our 3 pt shooting starts clicking, look out!

Agreed… Im pretty high on this team & maybe higher than I should be. I know some of the rest of you are excited, but holding off beating the drum.

Here is why: as I said earlier, I knew this would be a tournament team, but that’s about it. I figured they’d win 20 games be mildly entertaining, etc..

I knew Olsen was not a three-point bomber, and I didn’t know if we had enough explosion everywhere else to outscore teams. Wasn’t sure if Feurbach would take the next step, had zero excitement for Addie, and figured HS would be better but how much. Knew the Frosh would be solid, but again how much?

So first things first… I was doing a little research today and Iowas schedule strength is very good. They’ve played what is considered a very good schedule.

And, they’ve blown teams out all along the way….

Hannah still has no jumper, is still raw, but her athleticism is through the ROOF. Her handles & ability to drive are dramatically better, as is her defense & rebounding. And she isn’t even shooting well yet….

Did NOT expect Afolter to get injured and the team still look this good.

Feurbach is NOT a great scorer but still GREATLY impacts the game. Terrific defender, way better bringing the ball up the court, than I anticipated. Didn’t realize she could get to the rim like that.

On the ball handling note, did not expect they would use three girls, Feurbach, Affolter, and Olsen to grab and go up the court like they have. And yesterday McCabe even got into the mix that’s big time.

Did not accept expect McCabe to be this uninvolved and the team still look this good and yet that’s why I’m so high on her activity yesterday and what that means for the team.

Did NOT anticipate this kind of on ball pressure 30 ft from the hoop. They are mauling teams. We are just as athletic as last year if not more so and even more physical in my humble opinion.

Did not realize Olsen was a plus level defender and nearly automatic with her pull-up jumper from 15 foot in.

Did not expect the two girls from Wisconsin to look as good as they have early.

Might actually have expected a little bit more out of Heiden (still major upside) but part of that’s because O’Grady has been a revelation.

We are not close to clicking on all cylinders and we are wrecking teams…

KU, Drake & Va Tech are top 50 type teams. Northern Illinois is the only really poor team we’ve played and they’re still probably a 500+ team.

Wazoo didn’t look very good, but some of that was because of us.

I know that’s a lot of superlatives, but I place our effort so far at about 70% of what we can become and you have to admit if true, that’s super impressive for our potential 🤷‍♂️

I agree with those that say Iowa is ranked too low and ISU is too high. And I think we're being as objective as possible.

I still have to see more from Iowa State, they should be better than they are, I did not realize their G-play was so inadequate. We Will know more after they play us. I anticipate our guards wrecking them.

It's been discussed before but dang, Audi Crooks is a big gal.

She hit the game winning shot yesterday as now #15 Clown U held off Drake, 80-78 in Ames.

Will be interesting to see how AOG and Ava will handle her. Even if she buries Heiden in the post I think she can reject her shit.....

Just watched Indiana get run off the floor by UNC 69-39. Yes 39! Looked a lot like the way we dismantled WSU. Parish was out with an injury from the last game, (not sure for how long) put they looked lost, and a shell of what we've come to expect.

Yes, & counter that with Ball State losing to NC out there by I think 11… Ball State may be the best mid major in the country and they beat Drake by six.

Furthermore, doing the comparative score thing is always dangerous as you know. But as I said the other day, Drake shot 44% from the field verse Iowa State and 36% from three. They shot 28% from the field versus us and 32% from 3. Dinninberg shot 20 free throws verse us. We were super physical with her and beat her up. She was 7-15 from three Vs Iowa. She was 13 of 16 from the field and eight of 10 from the three-point line vs ISU

Miller was 6 of 15 for 18 points versus Iowa St & 1 of 17 for 6 versus us….

The B1G is a beast this year.

Brooks has no vertical; I can see Ava swatting away her shots....we'll see....
Crooks....Will be interesting to see if we front her, and try to deny the lob, or play behind. I do like our chance better this season with AOG/Heiden defending her one on one. I think most teams would have to double her. I also think AOG/Heiden can beat her down the floor.....

Let's set some screens for McCabe, and if not, at least look for her when she is open a little more.

They will…quite frankly and you’ll probably find this an odd statement, but I personally think that was her best game this year & one of her best period. She was grabbing rebounds, bringing the ball up, cutting through the lane, setting screens, playing defense and passing. Should have had 4 assists. 2 or 3 pt blank misses on layups.

It was the most connected to the rest of the team I have ever seen her. If she keeps playing like that, she’ll get plenty of looks.

To me McCabe shoots most of the time she gets a little space. She even had a step back 3 in an earlier game. Would love to see her do that more. She's not overly athletic which makes it a little tough. That's why they need to set screens for her and she needs to work hard at using them and getting open

My 2 cents on the Iowa Ladies so far. The good: The defense is definitely improved. Great team chemistry and hustle. AOG has been a great surprise. Getting Lucy was huge because of her ability to create a shot.

The needs work: Outside shooting is going to have to get better. Too many missed bunnies as well. A bit too sloppy with the ball. Poor shot selection at times, rushing shots at times like jacking up a 3 that's not open or driving and just tossing the ball towards the rim.

I really like the depth this team has and is developing. If indeed Guyton can become the backup PG - as has been mentioned by the staff as the plan - that would make a bench unit of:

Guyton
McCabe
Stremlow
Mallegni
Heiden

That’s a pretty talented group to have as a second five. And with 4 of the five being frosh, they should get better as the season goes along.
