Iowa really is a great place to live. One the lowest cost of living!!!

Retired for several years and hate living in this State. Was a registered Republican until recently.

Attended college in the 70s until I needed to return home to help on family farm.

BTW...I'd move tomorrow, but my wife doesn't want to live too far from grandkids.

Where would be your ideal place to move to?

I live in Ioway. Not for long though, bought a place in New England and will be heading there in a couple months. Finally getting out of this boring ass state. my
M departure has zero to do with politics. Ioway is great for a certain kind of person. Sounds like you’re that kind of person and you’re happy as a pig in shit living here.

But, of course, you live in a blue state and that is fine. But again, your thoughts on Iowa have no real relavence to the grand scheme of things. If you don't like winters, thats fine. I happen to love all the seasons. But, that is not why I think Iowa is a great place to raise a family.

It doesn't show a blossoming population of old people moving to Iowa. The small amount of growth in any demographic areas are being fueled by non white birth rates.
Can you name a popular destination retirement community in Iowa that is attracting out of state folks?

Never been to San Francisco…75 years old and never been there. I have no desire to go there, either. So no…I don’t know what it’s like in SF!

I have been there for work 4 times. I know some folks who live there and they are sad at what it has become in many spots. There are still many good areas. But, there are many areas that used to be nice, that you would not want to go. But, I am sure you can say that about most big cities these days....

New England sounds nice. What part? Friends of ours moved to Portland Main. They are BIG Dems and loved it out there. But the cost of living was too much so they came back. I am sure they will get back out there someday though.

A better capture of my happiness here would be that I am as happy as a bird in Heaven.

It is kind of refreshing to see the joy the OP has for where/state he lives, as opposed to the negativity that is pervasive on the board and seemingly our culture. Also cringey.

That said, it's hard for me to imagine a scenerio where I would ever move back to Iowa. Is the political decline the main reason, not quite. But it is why I'm not a "proud" former Iowan, nor is it where I'm "from" when asked anymore.

Is that a big deal? Not really, a bit disappointing though.
