Iowa State Game Will Be a Barometer For Hawkeyes

This is probably not even a fair comparison. Iowa State has 5 senior starters, a juco transfer (Jackson), a 4-year transfer (Weiler-Babb) and a graduate transfer off the bench (Bowie). Of course, our freshmen aren't going to get enough playing time to even make the comparison fair. Iowa is playing freshmen because they have to.

I will say this about our freshmen this year. Solomon Young is probably going to be the best of the freshmen for both Iowa and Iowa State. What little time he's seen of the floor (he's been injured the last 4 games), he looks very impressive. He's constant motion, constant hustle and averages about a point a minute. He also plays good defense. I think in a couple of years Jakolby Long will be right behind him. He's a big guard with a good handle and decent range on the jumper and I've been impressed with his athleticism and defense in the little playing time he's gotten. He seems to make good decisions with the ball too. He doesn't look like a typical freshman. Granted, it's a small sample size on Long, but I can't think of two Iowa freshmen I'd trade Young and Long for right now. And we haven't even seen Lard play because he's not eligible until the second semester, but I was expecting him to be in the post rotation this year, ahead of Young even, if he had been eligible. Young has obviously exceeded my expectations. We'll see about Lard.
You haven't watched Iowa play then.

I consider all players recruits, but to each their own.
It was the context to which it was applied in this case, that recruits are noticing ISU's success over Iowa, and it shows. Maybe all those NIU transfers, etc are watching ISU vs Iowa, and saying I want to go there. Maybe. I don't consider transfers recruits, but that's just me.

Iowa State is going to most likely make their 6th straight NCAA tourney, with 2 sweet 16s. They've been ranked for 60 straight weeks. Basically Iowa State has either had better recruiting or better coaching in that time span, you can pick which one.
I'll take option C, transfers. They've had really good transfers.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'd love one or two of those transfers right about now.
If we're picking nits there are transfers, and then there are transfers ;)
Chris Babb's little brother is a traditional transfer from another P-5 school who will have three years eligibility. Quite a different situation than the post-grad transfers, and also not the same as the standard JC transfer.

ISU is a very experienced team and Iowa is very inexperienced. Both Iowa and ISU are plenty talented. Iowa is at home. Iowa's only real chance of success is having ISU get in some foul trouble and have a rough night shooting the ball. I expect a 15 point loss and if we can pull out the win somehow I will be stoked.

We are going to destroy the Clowns! They have a traditional PG and they play that old school style of basketball with defense and everything! Smh. It's gonna be fun watching us abuse them up and down the court with our "positionless basketball". You can't stop us! Our Offensive efficiency is 45th!

I've only seen them for a few minutes against Cinci and the zags.

Offense seems to focus more on individuals this year, but that's ok when you have Morris. Not sure about Burton, but he seems to be doing well.

Defensively, their positioning appears very solid. Stylistically, they don't apply too much ball pressure. I imagine that'll probably change in this game since they know our weaknesses. Unless they get lazy of course.

I'd probably predict something like
Clones - 97
Hawks - 82

Thanks to the Hawkeyes for accepting Iowa State
as a barometer game in this early season. Their 78-64
win over the Cyclones was a tremendous victory.
