Iowa vs Colorado in Sioux Falls next season

ACC? Or is there some B10 - Big East thing now?
There's both. There's the ACC/B1G challenge, and the Gavitt Games, which is B1G/Big East. That was what the Seton Hall game was for this year. Not every B1G team can participate though so they rotate

Thanks for sharing. Not sure I am tracking why Iowa is playing Colorado in South Dakota. I would rather see Iowa vs. Creighton in Des Moines, Iowa vs. KU, KSU in KC or Mizzou in STL. If we are trying to showcase the Iowa basketball brand to high school / AAU coaches, playing a game in South Dakota makes 0 sense. I assume Fargo was booked for an Iowa vs. Incarnate Word matchup.

Maybe the Athletics Department will put together a Perch Fishing + Game package. I would be up for that.

I would imagine that western iowa fans are pretty happy.

I'm about an hour and a half from SF, would love to see the Hawks that close to home, tix are going to be hard to come by though - the Pentagon is a small arena

Iowa will make like $150K on this game so that's good. Minnesota, Iowa State, and Wisconsin? have all done this game the last few years.

The Pentagon is the brainchild of Kelby Krabbenhoft who is CEO of Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. Its a newer arena with a throwback design of basketball arenas of the 40's & 50s. He had the idea of having a early season annual big college match-up involving a regional team. Krabbenhoft is close friends with Bo Ryan and convinced Wisconsin to play in the first Pentagon challenge 5 or 6 years ago (BTW his son Joe played for Bo at Wisconsin). Its kind of taken off since then. There is a payout for participating teams and all expenses are paid. He also talked ESPN into televising the event so there is a national audience. The Pentagon is also the home court of the Sioux Falls Skyforce of the NBA-DL.

Its a very fan friendly venue. The game will sell-out quickly, seating capacity is a few thousand. Iowa State played Colorado at the Pentagon last year. St. John's. UNLV, Wichita State, and Memphis are some other teams who have played there.

Weird I don't recall ever playing them in my lifetime.

I wish we would play Missouri quite often I know there in the crapper. But those games in the early 2000s were fun and intense. I believe it was during the recker/Evans era.

Also they will be back to being a decent team most likely in 3-5 years.

But bring on Colorado only NBA guy I know that went there was I believe Billups.

I live an hour away and will try to get tickets for this game. So awesome and great place to watch a game.

IIRC, Iowa was a strong contender for Dominique Collier, a guard from the 2014 class who will be a senior next year at Colorado. He's one of their best players I believe, and a fantastic shooter.

Wasn't really going anywhere with that, but it's a connection between the two programs

I went to see the Golden Gophers play Vanderbilt at the Pentagon this year. It is a good venue to watch a game. As I am in NW Iowa, I will be there enthusiastically cheering on the Hawks next year.

Interesting that they will be playing at The Pentagon. Sioux Falls also has the Preimier Center which holds 12,000 and is a new, pretty state of the art arena.

Hawks will take on Colorado in Sioux Falls December 22, 2017

We do not partake in the Big East/B1G game next season. There are only 10 Big East teams so it must be our turn to skip.

I like this. A quality team from bigger conference. Gives lot of NW Iowa fans chance to pack that arena. Iowa Bball done a nice job last few years with non conference schedule. Got ACC challenge, Big East last 2 with Colorado taking place next seaon, ISU (unlike football give us a quality non conf opponent), UNI/Drake and a non conference tourney.

From article it is a huge bonus we get our foreign trip next year for a younger team. Like how Fran did with Olaseni having games in his native England doing same for Uhl and playing some games in Germany.
