Iowa vs NC St Predictions

Yes, Carton would have got teched. This just in isn't Jack #3? Anybody that honestly thought Grothus would beat him is crazy. Brody could still AA just those top 3 are in a league of their own.

Pretty much worst-case scenario so far. NC State will have the lead after 165. Just a matter of how much.

A lot of guys have wrestled Jack a lot tougher than that. Brody Grothus being an AA is a pipe dream at this point. He's not even close

Sorensen won 13-4
Gantt won 13-5

Coop wrestled him tough, the match was closer than the score. I could see Coop making R12 possibly getting into 7/8 on the podium.

Yep -- our brilliant clock team cost Cooper a takedown. Absolutely brilliant. How the &^%$ do you start a new PERIOD during the action?! I think someone needs to be relieved of his/her duties on the clock.
Are you freaking kidding me? Handed them a major.

Uh, no. If there were 8 seconds left when Cooper got the escape and then went out of bounds, then there was like 1 second left after the penalty point.

Brody looked terrible; showed absolutely no fight! I'm glad I'm not his coach because I'd have a hard time putting him back on the mat again after that performance.

Cooper was a major fail too! He has horrible hips and no fluidity! Huge holes at 41, 57, & 65. If at least two of those three weights cannot push for AA status, then we have little shot at the title!

That was a fun match to watch. Coop got in on a few shots that he just couldn't finish.

This is the worst BTN+ production that I have ever seen. The stream didn't even start until a minute into the 125 lb match. In between matches the camera then cuts away to a BTN screen for some odd reason only to come back after the next match has already started. There's no scoreboard on screen so we don't know who the wrestlers are, the time remaining, score, riding time, nor period. I guess we have to rely on the announcers to fill all that in, but I've learned more about seed corn and retirement centers than the event. It's almost a two hour info commercial with some wrestling in between ads.

At least Cooper fought. Brody just rolled over. That was an embarrassing performance, and I love the kid. Not at all a Grothus-like match. Jack is good, but he's not THAT good. Brody made virtually no attempt to score at any point and made true-freshman mistakes getting ridden. And still didn't really even fight to stay off his back.

Hoping Brody comes around, but my optimism for him took a massive hit tonight. Just hoping he qualifies for Nationals at this point. Anything else looks like it's pretty much gravy.

Rewind.

"That was a big escape there with 8 seconds to go"

Restart.

My stopwatch on my phone says 6.8 seconds at stoppage for penalty point.

So the announcer was probably right when he said there was 0.8 seconds left. No time for Cooper to get that takedown

With all due respect to NC State's radio stream, there's not a better call in wrestling than Steven Grace and Mark Ironside. No self-respecting Iowa fan would want to listen to anyone else.

The radio stream from NC St is excellent, maybe have that going in your earbuds while watching

Plus the timer fiasco gave Gantt a big blow...he was dogging it...gave up the disputed TD pretty easily. He is real slick though...Cooper now knows that he can get in on his legs pretty good.

Don't worry bud, football season starts in 7 months.

"Gave up the takedown easily" because he was under the impression there was a second left in the period... as there should have been. It was kind of like an after-the-whistle takedown, but with no whistle

Grothus is too weak, there is zero explosion there. I'd rather have a guy who can get after it than a guy who cuts too much and can barely move.

That is what worries me about Sorensen and Zain, I have not seen sorensen go at that pace this year.

We better win 184 here.

Roschcop is a good counter wrestler waiting for shots. Can put people on their back pretty easily from weird positions

Ironside is exactly right. Rhoads wrestles with ZERO confidence against anyone with a pulse. Never finishes shots. Shoots for looks -- not to score. Been saying it all year -- same story as 141 (Carton, anyway) and 157. These kids have more ability than they want to believe. No confidence = no success in this sport.

Credit where credit is due. . . . Nice shot and TD there by Rhoads. Too little, too late, but it's something. Still, Rhoads is way too comfortable with losing. No urgency when the match is in question. He's better than he shows. It's hard to watch.

Rhoads not using his only advantage...pushing the pace. This guy is winded already

And Meyer sleepwalking in the 1st period again against a sub-.500 opponent. This meet is torture to watch.

Other than Grothus getting smoked this meet as gone pretty much as expected thus far.

I don't think anyone expected Clark to win by decision. Most figured major at a minimum, and probably a tech or a fall.

Add the fact that Cooper actually had a chance for a while against Gantt but the clock operator had a colossal brain fart that handed Gantt the major. . . and the fact that Rhoads actually had a chance but decided to start making legitimate attempts to score with about :30 left, and that's painful. . . and then Meyer sleepwalking and barely beating a guy with an 11-12 record. . . .

No, I don't think this meet has really gone at all like most expected.

Where is Mr. Kolat when you need him? Should have him in there at halftime with the prod.
