I am still waiting for an answer from Mineo to see how much Minnesota paid with Flynn, Von Baur, Askey, and Steveson just to lose to Iowa. Sort of like his Nebraska tweet against Iowa.
Pk would murder that kid in brutal fashion. With that said, Nelson worked his ass off to get back on the mat and looked good. Whoever gets the nod vs hamiti has a prime opportunity to seize the spot.
I think Nelson gets the nod because he’s defense is much better and they need the chance to squeak out a win or at least avoid a major.

Hamiti is a tough out. Under DT I'd pick him as a dark horse at NCAAs.

Iowa would be favored at 125 133 149 157 165 174 197 HWT. Uni favored at 141 and 184. Its not a good dual at all actually
UNI has a very good dual team, but they match up poorly against Iowa.
I’m glad to see Nelson go out there and hammer a kid who was clearly not on the same level. I’m still not sure how you give him the nod at big10s. If he goes next wknd and pulled the upset does that win him the spot? Just weird situation.
That is my thoughts. Have NB go against Hamiti next week. If he beats him, I don't know how you don't give him the nod, especially if he is beating PK in the room. Which one scores more points at NCAAs is a decision Tom gets paid too make I guess.
PK and Brands need to have a wrestle off streamed so media and opposing fans can’t say TnT are playing favorites if Brands gets the spot and that they are doing PK dirty. Other coaches will probably use it to negatively recruit against Iowa. Willie and mineo will use it at the direction of Carl and Snyder to spread lies and smears.
You laugh , but all of it has happened and the parties relish the chance to do it again any and every chance they can get.

Streaming it doesn’t make it bulletproof. People can just say Bob paid off PK to take a dive. Lots of crazy fiction gets made up on the internets. This is our culture now.
No need to do that the guys in the room know who the best guy is. Who cares how it gets spun. Negative recruiting should be a sign to the athlete. A program should be selling you on what they do not what others do.
I think he gets the nod because it will be his last match in Carver and it implies to PK that 174 is not necessarily his spot next year, similar to this year. I can also see them using Gabe/PK the same way they used Nelson/PK this year, giving both quality starts and wrestling PK at Senior Day, to protect seeds, etc. Good problem to have. I think PK is the better wrestler but that doesn't always translate to results. Neither will beat Hamiti but Nelson will probably keep it closer. It would be great if Caliendo could make 157 because Kennedy would be tough to beat at 165.
Imo you wrestle Brands vs Hamiti. If he wins it’s his spot. If he wrestles a very competitive match 1 score/OT it’s likely his. If he loses by a wide margin give it to PK. Who’s healthier? Who gets the spot? Time will tell.
I’ve got to think it’s already decided tho. Or i would’ve thought a wrestle off happened before now and the public just hasn’t been told. Crazy if it’s still up in the air this late into the year. I’m all for competition but I’d rather see a clear fav.
NB is 40-20 (66.7%) in his career at Iowa.
He was 15-8 the year he placed 5th at nationals (6-4 going into Big 10’s).
Over his career he is 15-17 against ranked opponents. He had a great postseason in 23, but has not had a hugely distinguished career.
PK is 50-17 (74.6%) in his career at Iowa.
17-3 as a Covid freshman 165, 21-5 as a sophomore 165, 18-8 last year up a weight at 174. He was a Big 10 runner up at 165 and is 18-17 in his career against ranked opponents.
And for comparative reference, Drake Ayala is 57-15 (79.2%) in his career.
Other than one NCAA tournament, PK’s career has been better than NB’s.
Not advocating for one over the other, just wanted to show the stats as someone posted past results showed NB had proven a better option.

While this is true he also wrestled up at 184 seriously undersized one year and his AA year started after being injured. I don’t think the stats tell the whole story. Im sure the margin between the two is very thin. The eyeball test for me thinks Nelson is a whisker better and is the better option but PK has the ability to bonus more often
I’d let Nelson take the mat vs. OkSt and then take a look at a good ol’ fashioned wrestle-off in the room. Maybe someone makes the decision a no-brainer.
It's about getting it done in March in our sport. One has and one hasn't. And one had the opportunity all year while the other was hurt to take the spot and prove he can beat the AA type guy and he didn't.
Also they wrestle in the room at times and they both know who wins those battles. The coaches also know.
If PK isn't the guy he won't like it but he will definitely understand why it happened.
