Iowa WBB 2025 Recruiting Thread

Iowa still has 3 open scholarships for next year.

Are they looking at any more 2025 targets, or will they be hitting the transfer portal hard at the end of the year?

Maybe a transfer(specifically an incoming Junior to help balance classes), but not a recruit.

Deal's team opens a can of whoop a$$ on another opponent and is now on a 12-game blowout streak after Saturday's 82-43 win.

Paywall... Although the text description for the article states:
"Nohe'alani Stores and Addison Deal scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, lead Mater Dei (23-2) to a 12th straight win."

Confirmed...
"Stores, a UC Irvine commit, contributed 14 points, the Iowa-bound Deal added 13 points, with Golightly and Hoss both scoring 11 points apiece for Mater Dei, which extended a 15-point halftime advantage into a 60-31 lead entering the fourth quarter."

EDIT:
However, found this post a week later that states Addie Deal almost had another triple-double.
This is an older post from Addie Deal's Instagram page confirming it was Rancho Christian and that game took place on 1/25/25. Since it's on her page this is the stat line she endorsed not the older reported line. Includes a few highlights as well on 2nd image.
This stat line says: 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists
"Addie let her team to a big win over Rancho Christian and put up numbers! 16pts 13reb 8ast @addie.deal"

Did not expect the result of this game to be this wide as they have 2 common opponents that suggested a much closer contest and the game was at Rancho Christian. Plus, Rancho Christian is also rated #19 in CA.

Mater Dei only has 3 conference games left in their regular season against opponents they already beat up badly.

This team seems to be on a serious mission. Hopefully this is what Addie's team captain leadership can bring to a team.

Can Clark sit behind the bench and serve as a voluntary coach, particularly in the ass chewing department when the team makes some mistakes?
No but she can sit right smack in the middle of all these top young gun recruits they have coming in and recruit the hell out of them to Iowa City. Now if you could also get Kate Martin there doing the same thing you got not 1 but 2 WNBA big names selling the program, one highly acclaimed in HS the other no so much but both drafted and the faces of their WNBA teams.

Not shocking, but Journey Houston will be there as well. Since she’s local it wouldn’t make sense to miss Clark’s jersey retirement... will Hays be flying in from Alaska? 🤔
Layla has been here for an official. Journey can get to IC in an hour; it's a 12 hour flight to CR for Hays, plus 14 hours back, PLUS it's the middle of her basketball season. I'm saying no.

I don’t think you could keep Kate Martin Out of Carver this day. I’d be shocked if she wasn’t there.

Anybody have access to the girl's All-American selection list today? Seems like it's out there somewhere.

This article from a NC site stated:
"incoming freshman Nyla Brooks named a 2025 McDonald's All-American on Monday."
Then the article was pulled 5 mins later.

Another article states:
ZaKiyah Johnson becomes first Sacred Heart player to be named McDonald's All-American

Found it!

Addie Deal MAKES All-American status!
"Addison Deal, Mater Dei High School (committed to Iowa)"

Congrats go out to Addie Deal! Always nice to see her in that black and gold.

A few of these schools racking them up. Three to Stanford, three to Tennessee, UCLA and LSU with a few.
Iowa was pretty close to adding from the list. Hopefully get one on there in the '26 class!

Deal's team is now on a 13-game blowout streak after Tuesday's 56-36 win.
Her stats: 21 points, 9 steals and 4 assists

Hays's team takes down unbeaten #2 in Alaska for their 14th straight win.
Deal's team is currently on a 13 game win streak as well.
Layla's stats: 12 points, 16 rebounds and a little razzle-dazzle highlight to excite the bench and hopefully the crowd.

Top-ranked Wasilla girls come alive in second half, beat No. 2 MCCA in battle of unbeatens
"Anderson scored seven of her 13 points in the third quarter and threw a pass off the backboard to all-state center Layla Hays to highlight a 48-37 road win over second-ranked Mountain City Christian in a matchup of unbeaten Northern Lights Conference teams in Anchorage.

The 6-foot-5 Hays bagged 12 points and 16 rebounds, and converted Anderson’s off-the-backboard pass like she knew it was coming for an easy two in traffic.

Hays and Anderson, with the help of Mielee Merchant and Savannah Kroon, helped the defending state champing Warriors (9-0) outscore MCCA 27-15 in the second half as they rallied for their 14th straight win while snapping the host’s nine-game winning streak.
...
But the play of the game came moments later after Anderson raced down the court on a fastbreak and threw a pass high off glass to a trailing Hays, who scored to send the Wasilla bench into a frenzy.

Hays, the state’s Class 4A preseason player of the year who is headed to the University of Iowa, single-handedly controlled the battle of the boards to hold MCCA to one-and-done offensive trips. She blocked one shot and altered others.

When Hays got the ball in the post, she was unguardable. Her superior size wasn’t her only advantage; throw in fab footwork and a soft touch around the basket as well."

Addie Deal's team is now up to #2 in the nation with her team captain leadership.

The Sporting News Top 25 national high school girls basketball rankings (1/27/2025)
"2. Mater Dei (CA) (23-2 – 2nd)
The good news for Monarchs fans is that the winning streak is up to 12 after a pair of outstanding non-league wins, 74-42 against Bishop Gorman and 82-43 over Rancho Christian.

Jenica Lewis's team is at #17.
17. Johnston (IA) (15-0 – 15th)

Interesting pic.
Hays, Bjorn, Houston, Deal

These girls know each other by this point. Another get together this weekend. Do you suppose that Bjorn is more of a chance than anyone has thought? Still something there anyway.

If I’m looking at the correct picture I believe that is McKenna Woliczko and not Bjorn.

As far as Bjorn, Supposedly tight with Jenica Lewis and they have gone on unofficial recruiting visits together.

I've got a link to Shikreto's response on Bjorn in the link below you can revisit. Currently, I find it hard to go against hawkbuck70. Recently he pretty much nailed Greenway and the IA coaching staff moved on and then Teri O (Greenway's teammate) got an offer after that.
Do I hope Bjorn is putting more consideration into her IA offer. You bet! This visit just might signal that. Who knows maybe CC has her own small NIL stash to give back to the program that provided so much to her. Just a thought.
Maybe hawkbuck will respond and we can get something more definitive.

@hawkbuck70 miss your valuable contributions to this board. Hope all is well with you. Since the 2026 class has become the main focus now, was wondering if you have any little nuggets regarding Bjorn or any other Iowa recruit insight you have come across lately? I know you said Jan is a respected recruiter on the circuit as well and was also wondering how Jan is being perceived as a head coach if you can? This one isn't a biggie. Recruit intel is what we're mainly looking for here. TIA

Yeah, I think I was looking at Bjorn in her USA gear and I got confused. That was the visit with Alves (Illinois), Woliczko, Hays, Houston, Deal.

Still an interesting pic with it being Woliczko, and still wondering about Iowa's current relationship with Bjorn (regardless) after we had her pretty much in the bag for Texas.

*Would be awesome to get Woliczko back sometime. Hope that happens.

Addie Deal's team is now on a 14-game blowout streak after Thursday's 65-44 win.

Paywall article. However, according to google search text description...
"Mater Dei 65, JSerra 44: Iowa signee Addison Deal scored 25 points and added seven rebounds, seven assists and six steals to lead the No. 1 Monarchs (25-2, 5-0) to their 19th consecutive league title."
