Iowa WBB 2025 Recruiting Thread

I am more concerned for 2026. I hope Jan is telling them that is how we intend to play, but it’s a personnel issue. Pushing the ball and our play style (especially the past few years) are huge reasons why recruits want to play at Iowa (and fans like to watch). Otherwise we will definitely lose momentum with recruiting and not get the recruits we are going after.
I enjoy beating a dead horse so it’s worth pointing out that Maddyn Greenway is the tireless fast break PG that would have provided the rocket fuel to the run and shoot high scoring style that Iowa WBB is known for across the nation. Guyton has a lot of potential, just not the same style of player.

There are other point guards in the country that can push the ball that may want to come to Iowa. Also, have you ever watched film of Guyton preinjury or are you basing your comments on her play ~one month removed from being cleared and playing limited minutes post-ACL tear?

Give it a rest, She's not coming.

Rumor here in MPLS is Greenway got 1.5 million in NIL? Anyone else hear this and is that really how much top women players are getting?

I find that hard to believe. Maybe over 4 years, starting at $200K then ramping up $100K per year. Who knows, a lot of crazy shit going on here.

With Chad’s net worth likely exceeding 50 million dollars I don’t know that NIL would be a driving factor, That said I have no idea of the dynamics in the family so who knows. She said she fell in love with the environment around the Kentucky program, I tend to take that as the deciding factor.

Probably an exaggeration when it comes to Chad’s net worth. He made about $50-million in the NFL, before agent fees and taxes. I’m sure he invested well and is not hurting, but $50-million seems high.

"Addie Deal had a game-high 20 points, to go along with 10 rebounds and eight assists, earning the David Scoop Jackson MVP award for the Monarchs (15-2),"

"Deal, an Iowa signee, finished with 63 points, 28 rebounds and 20 assists in three tournament contests for Mater Dei, ..."

This is from one of those 3 tournament games.
"@iowawbb commit @addie.deal had 27 points on 10–16 shooting, 10 steals, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and only 1 turnover in @materdeigirlsbasketball dominating win over a good Oakland Tech team!"

That is a starter Day One. A Deal, Guyton, Stremlow, and hopefully Lewis makes me downright giddy!
Deal is special and a higher end talent than say a target like Lewis IMO. She has a fluid lanky build with great lateral movement and quickness and is very smooth operating in traffic. Throw in great shooting range. Plus putting up numbers going against elite competition. We are blessed to have her and need to continue to land similar talent if we want to be regular members of the elite club.

I would think that with Syd leaving and maybe/probably Kylie, Houston would be an option at guard or small forward? Maybe TP can help on this.

Well, the competition in that video was pretty weak, but it sure looked to me like Hays already has very strong footwork and post skills.
Really hard to get a handle on Hays and the 2025 posts. HoopGurlz regards the ‘25 post group, with Hays ranking 2nd, as the worst in a long time, probably the worst in the history of HoopGurlz, going back to 2006, I think. Usually the 2nd rated post is a top 20 or so recruit. Hays is rated 70, which suggests a lot of skepticism about her upside. Hope she over performs her rating.

I see basically same size as O’Grady with more fluidity/mobility, So regardless of competition that seems like a good positive to start with.

Think it's great that Hays plays volleyball. Good hint of athleticism, hand-eye coordination. The physicality and competitive nature, that thing that compels a player to get a rebound over someone, is what is hard to gauge until they are playing similar competition.

*The team really needs some "lowered brow" competitive personalities. Not sure if Iowa attracts that sort of thing, or conversely if it fits with the recruiting agenda.

The article is behind a paywall on details. However, it's always a bonus when one of our recruits makes the headline of a top nationwide event.

Kaleena Smith, Addie Deal and others standout at Nike Tournament of Champions
"The Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix is nation's top exposure event for the scholastic year. On an annual basis, there are over 300 NCAA Division I recruits who take part in the festivities for their respective schools."

"We caught up with @addie.deal & @devynjkiernan to talk about their #TOC experience and what being a CHAMPION means to them!"

"Tournament MVP Addie Deal had nearly a triple double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists ..."
"The Monarchs are all smiles after great two-week road trip featuring third-place finish at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix and here a title of the Platinum Division of the West Coast Jamboree."

Just before the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, she earned Orange County girls athlete of the week: Addison Deal, Mater Dei

Addie is stacking up her double-doubles. She had another one yesterday. She also picked up another MVP award for it.

5 Star Iowa signee Addie Deal was cooking this weekend, dropping 22 points and 10 dimes in a win for Mater Dei (CA)

"Addie Deal of Mater Dei was named tournament MVP. Deal led Mater Dei with 22 points, 10 assists and four rebounds."
