Iowa WBB Class of 2026 Recruiting Thread

The 2026 class is a critical class for the future of Iowa's WBB. Hawks will only have 8 on scholarship when they are freshmen, so this needs to be a class of at least five unless Jan hits the portal.

They need at least three guards in Iowa's guard oriented offense. Lewis, Kussow, Brinley (not sure she has an offer) and Harpring (will be a tough get) are mentioned throughout this thread. Need at least two PF's, Mallegni will be the only PF on schollie. Long list of prospects with Woliczko at the top of the list. Koupal from SD very athletic. Ragone and Byles have visited. Doubt Hawks take a post player. Will be interesting to watch.

Brinsley is a 2027 recruit.. also I think if a transfer that has 2 years remaining fits Iowa will attack. Our 2027 graduating class only has Kennise Johnson and she’s halfway to being a redshirt, though I feel it’ll be in her best interest to transfer eventually.. though we’ve seen players stay here with no playing time already.

what’s the status of Brinley?
Does anyone know if Iowa is gonna give her an offer?Anyone else in on her recruitment?

Might need that 2027 recruiting thread up soon.. should be seeing some more visits for games in the next couple months.

This is overdue, but in an effort to make recruiting information easier to find I'm starting a separate thread for the class of 2026. Here are some of Iowa's top targets in the class:

Natalie Kussow

Olivia Vukosa (New York)- #2
Brihanna Crittendon (Colorado)- #10

I second @Matt1nb7 request. @BraydonRoberts5 seem to be the best candidate as you did great job providing in-depth info on Notable Offer List and Iowa Visits for each prospect from the 2026 thread posting.

Raoul has his list of our 2027 recruits and offers.

Bigger names are starting to commit already.

Vickery visited but Iowa never offered.

Sounds like McKenna Woliczko suffered a serious knee injury tonight.

It surely does seem serious. Those tears suggest she feels/knows it's probably not going to be a short-term tweak or sprain. I pray I'm wrong in my avg Joe assessment and she doesn't need surgery to recover.
I hope Jan and crew also reach out for support in dealing with these unfortunate situations. Never know how far that can take you in the recruit's final commit decision.

Any updates on severity as of this morning?
I found more of an update on McKenna in this article.

From Woliczko’s father Aaron, who refers to her as “Mc:” “Tonight’s update:

She got out of ER and x-Rays looked good from a “nothing broken” perspective, Mc has an MRI scheduled for 8:15 pm Monday night, which is about the quickest turnaround we can ask for.

Based on X-Ray and pain in medial (inside), the doctor in the ER said there is “something” with the MCL but is hopeful that it could be (best case scenario) a grade 1 sprain. He’s hopeful for her because her swelling isn’t extreme like a full knee blowout or even torn ACL symptoms.

We are thankful he was so positive about this!

The injury occurred in a non contact situation, so that is always scary to start. She felt/heard “pop” obviously for her initial reaction plus immediate pain on the medial and lateral side. Her right leg was straight when she tried to plant and her knee gave out inwards. That is what I initially saw in real time and from slowing down video.

Thanks to some great relationships, we did secure an appointment with Dr. Lehman who is one of the best orthopedic knee doctors/surgeons around and works with the Warriors. He worked with Mc last spring when she had a sliding softball knee injury that thankfully was a bad hematoma.

His first available appointment is Thursday. “We are all very thankful to all for their concern and thinking the best in a scary moment. We will share updates as we know more.

Another positive sign from her dad: She was laughing from her room, icing her knee (again), playing video games with her younger brother and watching cat videos.

Unfortunately, McKenna suffered more damage to her knee than the swelling and symptoms initially suggested. Pray she makes a full recovery and returns to full performance level prior to her injury.

"The best player on the No. 1 team in high school girls basketball is out for the season.

McKenna Woliczko, 5-star Archbishop Mitty junior forward and the arguable frontrunner for national player of the year, suffered a non-contact ACL tear on Saturday in a 61-44 loss to Ontario Christian.
...
Woliczko had an MRI at 8:15 p.m. on Monday, and shared the bad news via X/Twitter on Tuesday morning, adding that she plans to undergo surgery."

WNBA champion Sabrina Ionescu shares 1-word message for FIBA gold medalist McKenna Woliczko following season-ending injury

More players show their support.
...
"praying for you 🙏🙏," Addie Deal, an Iowa signee who is ranked No. 18 in the 2025 class by ESPN, wrote.
"🙏🙏," Iowa's Taylor Stremlow commented.

Stated this before that I hope Jan and crew also reach out for support in dealing with these unfortunate situations. We have several recent success stories to draw from. Never know how far that can take you in the recruit's final commit decision.

I would honestly be shocked if Jan and staff did not reach out to her.

The past Iowa teams had a fast pace which appeals to most players . I have a fear that this offense will turn off recruits.
This plodding offense they are now running is not pleasant to watch or play.

Yup Jan changing the offense into this crap show was one dumb decision

THey don't have the personnel to do what she is trying to do either
I agree things aren't going well right now and change is needed. Just suggesting that if this group (that struggles significantly with turnovers) tried to play fast like last year's team they'd be doing worse than they are now.

Maybe. Let the girls loosen up a little and not be so restricted to set philosophy and structured play.

I’m surprised more people on this site aren’t DEMANDING our athletic director fire Jan .
They usually have all the answers 🥰
There are multiple threads talking about her. I don’t think there’s demand for firing, just a worry that she’s in over her head in the top position. And some complaints about the job just being given to her(I’m one of those people).

Does anyone know of any of our 2026 recruits where we're not in their top X list who hasn't committed yet? I don't recall one. I can think of 4 of the top of my head who have list out we're on and not committed yet.

Committed Hawkeyes:
None

Out of Play Hawkeyes:

None

Committed:
1) Maddyn Greenway (Top 6 - KY)
2) Lilly Williams (MI St)
3) Tori Oehrlein (Minn)
