Iowa WBB Class of 2026 Recruiting Thread

All of these young ladies have a year before signing. Hawks have had a lot of positive momentum in the 2026 class with numerous top 50 visits. Jan is a solid recruiter and has this team off to a good start. It will be interesting to see how the 2026 class pans out.

I think it is only natural for the future rising stars to aspire and pursue greatness as well as welcome comparisons to past goats.
Aspiring is one thing. Having to live up to that expectation can be another thing entirely.....

On Iowa Kate said that she really likes Jan, She has heard the fans are really crazy and she said she is not sure if she likes that or dislikes it, Said she would like to visit and see the campus and see what the academics and athletics are like.

What I found interesting was her comments about visiting LSU, She said LSU seemed to be all about NIL and that she really isn’t into that.

Reading between the lines it sounds like having her family involved during visits was pretty important, Some schools did very well in that area and others not quite as well. You do have to keep in mind the article was late September and she has had more visits since then.
I totally get her comment about not sure which way she'd lean on "crazy fans". This forum and some of the social media make that quite obvious......

Nothing to back this up, but the longer Lewis' recruitment goes, I think the better chance she's a Hawkeye.

Maybe I'm missing understanding what you mean by "Nothing to back this up".

It is technically a simple double dribble in the middle of a dribble, or a travel if the palming effect slows the start of the dribble as they begin taking steps, although rarely called, as there is no such thing as the commonly referred to "carrying the ball". Agreed it happens commonly, is rarely called, and frankly a big advantage when used to freeze the defensive player.

They don't call (enforce) double dribble in women's basketball now like they used to, If a player drops the ball, they allow the player to dribble and continue play. That is technically a double dribble. Not a huge deal as long the relaxed enforcement is consistent, It's a nuance since the ball (player) does not advance theoretically and speeds up the game.

A bit off topic, but please explain the "high dribble" that seldom is called?
In a recent high school game, fans were screaming for a "carry" call where the ball was nearly shoulder level and the ref just made some motion and play continued.
I'm out of touch with any rule changes other than the "euro step".

TIA

Just my opinion, if a player is just dribbling up the court, the refs are not going to call "carrying". The only time it seems to be called is when a player uses it to gain a clear advantage, like an Iverson crossover move

Players, men and women technically carry the ball regularly and it's almost never called. As long as there isn't an advantage, there really is no reason to call it in my opinion.

Thanks for the explanation.
Back when my girls played, any dribble above the belly button was usually called.

I played 100 years ago and at that time as long as your hand was contacting the ball above the equator it was not palming/carrying the ball.

Or, the better the JJ era at Iowa shows...
I really think players just want to see Iowa play post-CC22, and see what that is like. Don't blame them because it's a big change.

Keep winning. The recruits will notice.
Yep. I'm also thinking that Iowa never wins less than 20 under Jan. Winning is going to be consistent with the advantages she already has in place here (that she significantly helped instill). Our teams are too talented as it is and we have depth although young. I really, really like where this program is headed. I can see championships on the horizon. We won't have a problem recruiting under Jan as she's already proving her chops right now as a coach and has been a good recruiter in the past.

I've no worries about our WBB program. She'll prove it's only getting better and she'll always do it the right way, with the players in mind, unlike other programs in the country.

OMG. Kirk gets roasted every day for never winning the B1G and only winning 75% of games so what will the posts be if JJ can’t win a National title every few years?😩

Kirk's last win got his career winning percentage to 60%. Out of every 10 games he averages 1 win above 500%. Jan will likely do far better than winning 60% of her games as head coach.

So how many coaches in power four (?) colleges have a sixty percent winning record and there fan base wants them fired for not winning?

That would be a long list. How many successful P4 schools let a 60% win rate stay for 25 years? Successful schools want to win conference championships and compete for National Championships. At Iowa we don’t have a fan base that desires those things. Look at our mediocre NIL support.

His career winning percentage also includes a 12 and 21 record at Maine

What is the plan for this next year? We have signed 3 but it appears we will be losing 5 Seniors. Are we looking to fill that with the portal, looking to still sign, or what?

I think anymore you have to keep 1 or 2 recruiting spots open for transfers if you're a big school looking to compete at the highest level. People will want to come in and you can be a bit picky.

Were there any recruits at the ISU game. Big crowd and man were they into it.
It sucks that the game was on a Wednesday, as every recruit is now in season. That limits who can get to mid-week games. Sunday afternoon games are best! You are definitely right about the crowd being into it.
At least the game was on national TV

They have Sunday games vs Indiana, Maryland, USC and UCLA. They're going to be fine for recruiting weekends.
