I thought we needed a game thread separate from the season one.
It will be interesting to see how Adalia Mckenzie plays seeing how we recruited her and I for one was hoping she would choose Iowa.

Really happy they got a game in today; hopefully they continue to get more and more sharp.

I believe we started the season projected to be a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

As of January 21, we are projected as a 7 seed.

Here is that projected bracket:

A lot of season left. With Iowa State getting blown out at Baylor things will change daily. Iowa 16th in the net, they just need to keep winning and they will move up. Hopefully enough to be able to hoast.

I think we host for sure. There are a lot of butts in seats for women's hoops in Iowa City.

I look forward to seeing how we do against Indiana (TBA), Ohio State (Jan 31), Michigan (Feb 6 and Feb 27) and Maryland (Feb 14).

Saw McKenzie play in HS, and really thought she could have helped Iowa. Picking Illinois over Iowa and home-town Gophers was strange.

Taiwo is making the most of her chance with 8 pts.
Clark has 8pts, 4reb, 4asst.
Czinano with 14pts.

3rd quarter started slow, but Clark heated up with 2 3's and a layup off a pass from Gabbie. Now with 16pts.

I think she really liked the one Marquette coach, who got hired at Illinois.
Who then left Illinois to go to Wisconsin, correct? Perhaps McKenzie will leave Illinois after Fahey is let go, which seems inevitable. I still think McKenzie could help Iowa.

Clark dropped a couple really loud F-bombs tonight which seemed to surprise some of the people around me at the game. They seemed unable to believe she would say such words. Lol
Does anyone know why Bruce Dern was at the game? The 10 o’clock news just showed him in the stands.

I caught one on TV in the 2nd half. She was short on a floater and missed the rebound.

Always amazed at people being shocked by this. Happens virtually every game. Jud Heathcote and Bobby Knight were famous for peeling paint off the walls with their tirades. Players as well. Scott Skiles comes to mind.

Yeah…she had a teammate on the right…should have veered left to make the defender choose who to guard but she made it easy on the defender by staying middle. I had floor seats at that end as soon as she released it you could see the disgust on her face.

There was a play in the 2nd half where she had the ball just outside the lane and threw a pass through traffic across the lane and hit a teammate for an open look for a 3. It’s vision like that where she is really going to separate herself from players who can just score.

She was frustrated. Lots of hustle plays that didn't go the team's way, especially on rebounds that got tipped out of bounds. At the end of the day dropping an F bomb is not a big deal.

I like that Tomi drives— gabby drives, stops, turns and throws it back out. Why can she never finish???
Gabbie has a bad habit of getting stuck under the basket. She does not have the length that Tomi has. I've said for two years now she also needs to add strength and learn to sacrifice her body to get free throws. Doyle was great at doing just that and not much taller than Gabbie.

Ideally though Gabbie needs to add a stop and pop jumper, so she doesn't have to try and drive amongst the trees. At 5-9 she is at a disadvantage trying to go into the paint.

When she's driving on the baseline under the basket, she's looking for an outlet on the perimeter which a lot of times has not been there.

But Gabbie brings so much defensively she needs to be on the floor, even if it means that she will be responsible for a turnover or two under the basket. There is no better on ball defender in the BIG.

Agree on the stop and pop, but she has shot a couple lately and missed them. She has no business in the paint otherwise.

Also at the game yesterday. Clark is an amazing talent with great vision and ball skills. Thought she was a little off yesterday with 6 turnovers and a few bad decisions, including the play Legend mentioned on the 2 on 1 break.

Fantastic player though, a lot of fun to watch. Iowa is lucky to have her.
