Zero reason to celebrate a close loss. You don't make the tournament by losing close games.
"Iowa could have easily won and failed at the end" is Fran McCaffrey ball and is exactly why we all already know the outcome of this season.

Fran builds unorthodox teams. Thelwell is upgrade over what Fran normally brings in, but he's not of Lipsey, Gilbert , or Jones quality.
Nobody in P5 basketball offered Harding other than Fran. I like Harding's moxie/effort and sometimes he does thing that surprise you like his 1st half. THen he gets abused like 2nd half and plays like you expect of a 5'10 gym rat from the suburbs that only had mid major offers
This is Iowa team made up of a lot of native Iowa kids and two Moline young men. Very are easy to root for, except they aren't Sweet16 caliber team. They have a lot of skills but get killed on boards because they are soft, lacking strength, lack fast twitch athletes.
Sure, this probably is a 10-10 conference record team. I would prefer what ISU fans have. Why can't we have good things once every 15 years?
Getting wins over Michigan & ISU, and teams like them is extremely difficult. Iowa missed two golden opportunities. It would have paid dividends come March. It's part of the reason why I'm burnt out on Fran. It's all too predictable how it'll end.
Fran has won very few of these games that MATTER at Iowa. In fact, what are his biggest wins?
I can't argue your last paragraph either and that is where a lot of these emotional takes and anger are coming from. I get it. But I don't stand for stupidity like a lot has been posted above. 25 years without a sweet 16 is exhausting.
Next 5 games are big. 2 nobodies, Utah neutral court. At Wisconsin and IU at home. Go 4-1 and they are in great shape. Let's see what happens. I'm not defeated after tonight. I see a ton of potential and upside.

After those top two non qualifiers they could be in the nit, but I think the nit is only going to take one conference team for sure.

This team will easily make the NCAAs. We won’t keep on losing tough games. They played well tonight and but for a play here and there should have won.

ISU is elite. We almost beat Michigan on road not healthy and lost to an undefeated Utah St team because we couldn't make fts. So my analysis of all this has us trending up. Healthier now, fts better.

Trending up? I'd feel really good about the tournament if Iowa was 2-1 in those. I'd feel ok if they were 1-2. Now, Utah is a must win, and it's not even a great win that people would talk about.
Beating a dead horse here but I am sick of teams playing 8 guys, of which 6 are transfers. Coaches and boosters basically buying a team. Makes it hard to be a fan of collegiate athletics when the playing field is so tilted.
