Iowalaw's Objective Post-Game Thoughts: Northwestern

"5. Clock Mismanagement. Some say it's "old kirk," but I think the guy with the phys ed degree is just not bright. Before halftime, Northwestern had 4th and long from the Iowa 28 yard line with 2:15 left. Rather than calling timeout and putting the team in a position to score, Kirk chews his gum, let's them run the clock, and by the time CJ takes the field, we have just 1:16 left. A full minute lost! Then, our first play call, with good field position, is a run up the freaking middle to run another 30 seconds. I mean SERIOUSLY!?!?"

The good old Cap'n is only cashing $4M a year, has a $25M parachute and you you think a PE degree is unworthy? I say the Cap'n WINS!!!!!!!! I should have become a gym teacher!!!!!!

I think the whole team, coaching staff and athletic director should be forced to sit in their beautiful team meeting room and listen to what Colin Cowherd may have to say about them on Monday.

The coaching staff is failing. Iowa is the more talented team than NW and NDSU but they're completely hindered by a lack of creativity and confidence.

The more talented team? Seriously? Did you see those 9 TFLs? How about JJ's 58 yard TD scamper? Or A. Carr easily bouncing off a tackle attempt on his way to his 3rd TD?

Iowa had the better players last year and won...convincingly. NU had the talent advantage on Saturday and dominated in every phase of the game except special teams. NU isn't all that good. Pretty mediocre on their best day. IO_A is worse. Just the facts.

A change in attitude is clearly needed to get the fat cats going. We burned scholarships on 10 kids, and those freshmen have played a combined 5 mins in 5 games. Perhaps we should shuffle them in and see what they can do since their eligibility is already burned.

I agree with seeing what some of the young kids can do - especially with some of the struggles we are seeing from some the of the experienced guys. It would not be difficult to sub in some of the young guns who have already burned a redshirt.

- Put Lattimore in on some passing downs and see if he can get to the QB
- Let A. Jones have some time at LB and see if he can do a better job at stuffing the run game
- Play Devonte Young at WR and see if he might be able to create some separation or heaven forbid call a quick slant and use the middle section of the field
- Give A. Hooker a shot at Safety and see if he can make a few open field tackles to prevent some huge runs
- Put in Noah Fant in some 2 tight end sets and actually roll out CJ once in a while and give him a chance to hit Fant on some short or intermediate routes
