Iowa's schedule-when is Barta held accountable

At least Iowa's OOC schedule is perennially better than teams like Baylor (SMU, Lamar, Rice) or Kansas State (South Dakota, UTSA, LaTech) or some of the SEC teams that play nothing BUT cupcakes every year to pad their records.

I can't wait till the next head coach, If they plan to schedule descent OOC games, at least.

ISU to every other year.
Why not play the Boise's, CSUs, Fresno's, and E Carolina's. These and a descent power opponent would make me happy.

So which are you switching for Boise? The current schedule has two Power 5 teams, and North Texas really isn't different than those you named. So, I guess you must be saying get rid of the FCS school for another midmajor opponent. Sure, I think everyone agrees with that, I'm just not sure why that makes it "descent OOC games", at least more so than it is now.

But to compound your idea, I would love if Iowa could create an agreement with, say, the Mountain West, to play one of their teams at Kinnick every year. Keep ISU and the other P5 and that really is a damn good schedule.

In almost all years we will be giving up a games vs. traditional Big 10 foes for either Rutgers or Maryland.

Not if you make it to the CCG, which is what was added by bringing in Rutgers & Maryland. So yeah, almost all years. Sucks to be Iowa fan. Negativity everywhere.

Giving up season tickets because of it = Pathetic. Iowa is a JV football program next to Iowa State.

I mentioned ISU every other year. Which would open up the schedule for both schools, while still allowing the athletes a home and home with each other onceduring their career.

I've been away for a few weeks. Just checking in to make sure some of you are still miserable. Yep. LOL.

Same here.

Every year, it's 3-4 major threads on the schedule. Because it apparently is soooooooooooooooooooooo easy for armchair schedulers to write out a schedule for years in advance playing teams that would almost never have any desire to play Iowa ever.

But because they say it can be done, that's their entire argument and therefore obviously fact.

TCU and Minny; BYU and Nebbie; Stanford and N'West; Mich and Utah; Mich State and Oregon; Iowa and Illinois State? There won't be much tv exposure for the Hawks and Illinois State..Bump Elliott would laugh his head off over this schedule. How do you get players ready to play Illinois State? We pay a premium price for a coach and then play a 10 cent out of conference schedule..just to say we won x number of games. We won't ever again see a UCLA, USC, Oklahoma, or even a North Carolina State as long as Barta and Ferentz are around......what a shame and no wonder we have trouble recruiting against those guys listed above.
I think our non-conference schedule is fine. We play two teams from the Power 5 conferences this season. Iowa State is always an emotional game , and Pitt is a team that always recruits pretty well. With Narduzzi coaching them now, I expect that they will be plenty tough this year. I see pretty much all of the college football magazines have them rated above us. We also play one of the very best FCS teams, and McCarney will certainly have North Texas fired up when they come to Iowa City. Go Hawks!

Well, keeping in mind that starting next year we're moving to a 9-game conference schedule which will hamper our OOC scheduling even more if we continue to play Iowa State while wanting that 7th home game........

I wonder if Iowa State would be fine with a move to every-other-year as long as it also changes venues. Like this year is in Ames, 2017 in Iowa City, 2019 in Ames, 2021 in Iowa City, etc etc. That would leave room for either one-offs with a Power 5 team or a two-game deal working around the ISU game (so 2016 home and 2018 away against said P5 team).

Iowa State is gonna do everything in their power to keep this game, and annually, because anything other than an Iowa win is a troll on their hated rivals. If we show that we want out of it, they push to keep it because it chaps our arses. If we want to move to every 2-3-4 years but play in Iowa City more than Ames they'll say f*** no and stick to the current set up because it would chap our arses.

Face it....we're stuck with Iowa State every year, so the best bet would be to just beat the f***ers each and every season regardless of how much that would upset any Cyclone fans, officials, or powers-that-be.

Maybe if we beat them enough (like more than Hayden's streak), they'll eventually go away. Otherwise.......accept it and move on.

Adding Maryland and Rutgers is what cheapens the schedule. You lose games vs. UM, OSU, MSU, etc. so you can play Rutgers and Maryland. That's the real joke of e schedule....

In keeping with the thread's theme of Barta accountable, how does adding conference members become the ADs or even coaches, that these games are, "the real joke of e schedule"?

Mr. Barta would earn a lifetime contract if he would tell Jamie that every clown game will be held in Kinnick or the series ends.

This was our last chance to play a good power 5 conference school outside the B1G in the regular season. Will never happen again unless we drop ISU, go to a 13 game schedule, or go back to 8 B1G games.

Nonsense. Iowa could still schedule a home and home with a good P5 school in the future even if those 3 things don't happen.

It's a very uninspiring schedule. But, so are most of the other team's schedules in the conference.
What it does lack is a big game. The 'clones and 2 MAC type opponents will be there for the foreseeable future. But it would be preferable to have a better quality opponent than pitt for the supposed "tough" game. Not that the Hawks are guaranteed to beat pitt.

As for paying to watch Iowa. Would you pay that cost to watch Iowa play Coe or Wartburg?
Neither Coe or Wartburg are in the Big 10, so I don't understand your argument.

No. Some said here that they would watch Iowa no matter the opponent. I wondered how that would go.
