At least Iowa's OOC schedule is perennially better than teams like Baylor (SMU, Lamar, Rice) or Kansas State (South Dakota, UTSA, LaTech) or some of the SEC teams that play nothing BUT cupcakes every year to pad their records.
I can't wait till the next head coach, If they plan to schedule descent OOC games, at least.
ISU to every other year.
Why not play the Boise's, CSUs, Fresno's, and E Carolina's. These and a descent power opponent would make me happy.
In almost all years we will be giving up a games vs. traditional Big 10 foes for either Rutgers or Maryland.
So which are you switching for Boise? The current schedule has two Power 5 teams, and North Texas really isn't different than those you named. So, I guess you must be saying get rid of the FCS school for another midmajor opponent. Sure, I think everyone agrees with that, I'm just not sure why that makes it "descent OOC games", at least more so than it is now.
But to compound your idea, I would love if Iowa could create an agreement with, say, the Mountain West, to play one of their teams at Kinnick every year. Keep ISU and the other P5 and that really is a damn good schedule.
I've been away for a few weeks. Just checking in to make sure some of you are still miserable. Yep. LOL.

I think our non-conference schedule is fine. We play two teams from the Power 5 conferences this season. Iowa State is always an emotional game , and Pitt is a team that always recruits pretty well. With Narduzzi coaching them now, I expect that they will be plenty tough this year. I see pretty much all of the college football magazines have them rated above us. We also play one of the very best FCS teams, and McCarney will certainly have North Texas fired up when they come to Iowa City. Go Hawks!TCU and Minny; BYU and Nebbie; Stanford and N'West; Mich and Utah; Mich State and Oregon; Iowa and Illinois State? There won't be much tv exposure for the Hawks and Illinois State..Bump Elliott would laugh his head off over this schedule. How do you get players ready to play Illinois State? We pay a premium price for a coach and then play a 10 cent out of conference schedule..just to say we won x number of games. We won't ever again see a UCLA, USC, Oklahoma, or even a North Carolina State as long as Barta and Ferentz are around......what a shame and no wonder we have trouble recruiting against those guys listed above.
Adding Maryland and Rutgers is what cheapens the schedule. You lose games vs. UM, OSU, MSU, etc. so you can play Rutgers and Maryland. That's the real joke of e schedule....
Nonsense. Iowa could still schedule a home and home with a good P5 school in the future even if those 3 things don't happen. This was our last chance to play a good power 5 conference school outside the B1G in the regular season. Will never happen again unless we drop ISU, go to a 13 game schedule, or go back to 8 B1G games.
Neither Coe or Wartburg are in the Big 10, so I don't understand your argument. In almost all years we will be giving up a games vs. traditional Big 10 foes for either Rutgers or Maryland.
As for paying to watch Iowa. Would you pay that cost to watch Iowa play Coe or Wartburg?
