***Iran v Israel War official thread***

I think people remember that Iran attacked but they also remember the preceding attack by Israel. Both sides (eh?) pretty much always think they have justification to attack based on the previous aggressions of the other side. Perspective is a funny thing.
And disgustingly, some people choose to not remember what happened on 10/7. Perspective is actually a predictable thing with people who see everything through their political lens of choice.

Pakistan and Iran had a little tiff a few months back.

Pakistan hit some sites inside Iran with pretty much impunity.

Iran calmed the F down.

Hopefully the same happens here.
The rhetoric sure seems to be trending that way. Part of me still doesn’t think this is it for Israel. A lot of hot air came out of those “security” meetings earlier in the week just for 1 missile strike inside Iran.

and?

If we were in a war time footing you'd have a point.
If the balloon goes up, how do you envision we would adjust our ‘defense posture’ to counter this threat?
It’s not like our country is blanketed in air defenses.

The people cheerleading our country toward WW3 have never seen our country fight one that could actually fight back.

We're not in a quasi war with a country that has that capbility within missile range.

We'd probably adjust our defensive posture in the US if that were the case.
Shoot, we just lost 911 in four states because a contractor knocked over a light pole somewhere.

I have a lot of confidence in our offensive capabilities, but defensively?

We would look like The Walking Dead in a week.

The US has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution that would have granted Palestine status as a full UN member state, a move that goes against President Biden’s claim that he favors a two-state solution.

The US was the only member of the 15-member council to vote against the resolution, while the UK and Switzerland abstained. There were 12 votes in favor from Russia, China, France, Japan, South Korea, Ecuador, Algeria, Malta, Slovenia, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, and Guyana.

A resolution needs nine votes to pass, but the US and the other four permanent members of the council — China, Russia, France, and the UK — have veto power.

Before the Thursday vote, The Intercept reported that the US was lobbying other countries to vote against the resolution so the US wouldn’t have to veto it.

The Biden administration has come under criticism for claiming to favor a peace deal that involves a two-state solution while continuing to provide unconditional military aid and diplomatic support to Israel, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly stated his opposition to a Palestinian state.

Netanyahu has explicitly stated that he will not allow the creation of a Palestinian state in any future scenario. "In any future arrangement … Israel needs security control all territory west of the Jordan," he said in January. "This collides with the idea of sovereignty. What can you do?"

The Israeli leader has also credited himself for why there is no Palestinian state. "Everyone knows that I am the one who for decades blocked the establishment of a Palestinian state that would endanger our existence," he said in February.

I was responding to the missile threat comments.

Our infrastructure is certainly vulnerable to cyber attacks...which is a major problem.

At this point every President or Prime Minister of a Middle East country just needs to get together to put their dicks on a table and get the measuring contest over with.

What people "choose not to remember" is what happened in the decades leading up to that or the 6 months since. You know, apartheid, genocide - all that. Perspective.

According to 60 Minutes, unnamed Pentagon officials claimed that Severodvinsk on her maiden deployment[27] "slipped into the Atlantic Ocean and for weeks evaded all of the attempts to find her" in the summer 2018.[28]
This class of sub can carry approximately 32 Kalibr cruise missiles. They have 4 of them. So the very worst (non-nuclear warhead) case would be all 4 evade detection efforts and get within cruise missile range and we have a threat of 128 inbound missiles. You honestly don’t think that if we were on a war footing with Russia we wouldn’t repurpose Patriot batteries to handle this? You honestly think it is likely they all evade detection?

Russia is not going to risk $4+ billion dollars of submarines (plus a development timeline measured in decades) to get a few missiles through US air defenses. If we ever got to that point, which is extremely unlikely, Russia would use them for an “end-the-world” nuclear option. That is the value of these subs…nuclear deterrence; not a conventional attack on the US mainland.

Edit: the US/Israel defense of the Iran attack also included ships and aircraft. Last I checked we have lots of these to use for defense as well. The point is, we shouldn’t be spending defense dollars on un-necessary defense. We should be efficient and spend it on real threats.

I don’t think this is over. Airlines are usually a good indicator of stuff and most major players are still canceling for the next few weeks. State departments definitely in the know on intel.

there have been multiple warnings of China making a major move soon to knockout infrastructure…don’t see it yet, figured we would have seen signs of it. Maybe there is signs of it somewhere.

Maybe China is backing off their plan for now because US has been broadcasting it all over the country. Or (thread related) this recent activity with Iran and Israel has caused them to take a step back until they see how that situation unfolds.
