It seems to me that he is. He's missing shots that earlier in the year no one could stop him. He's getting into foul trouble, which earlier in the season he never did. I'm not blaming him at all. I just think that as the season has gone on, the double and triple teams is kind of beating him up.

From my perspective (and I haven’t been on the other thread that was sourced) the law of averages proves you are going to have stretches where there are more misses than hits. Also, Luka started the season doing a lot of drill-style playing, meaning he looked like he was acting out the drills he and his dad worked on. The further removed he gets from those drills, the more he has to rely on his instinct and god given talents. It’s like in football when they talk about how a team scripts out it’s first 15 plays and the QB is unreal, then as the defense adjusts and the game proceeds things become more difficult.

Sitting him the last 7 minutes in a blowout was the right thing to do after he got clocked. He could have gone on one of those stretches where he scores 10 points in 4 or 5 possessions during that time and ended up with 18 for the game. But he needed to rest. We’ve played a lot of games in a short time over the past two weeks. And he’s taken a physical pounding during that stretch too. He’ll be fine and if CJ comes back it will help pull extra defenders off of him.

I’m sad that he’s missing all of those shots that would normally be automatic for him because he deserves all the credit and recognition for his hard work to be he best player in the country and to avoid critics downgrading him for a “bad” game . But the other team is playing defense too, and in many cases playing it against the rules with no calls.

I think he’s a little tired but The refs have something to do with it. I know I know what some of you were saying. But if you look at the double teams and how much more physical they have become the refs do not want to make it a whistle happy game. Which I think they could easily do. They are in his space they hit his arms, he can’t turn and control his body as well and nothing is called. You are not going to score that way
Specifically when you are gassed.

Probably a combination of him wearing down a bit and him / Fran wanting to get shots up faster before the blanket D envelops him. Nice to have a game where he can sit back and relax with the guys on the bench and have a mental and physical break. He has been playing heavy minutes, taking a pounding inside and in some cases trying to do too much. An off game by Garza is still a great game for most and fortunately he wasn't needed against MSU.

Luka had a tough game, like everybody does eventually. He did a lot of things right to get in position to score and missed shots he is normally over 90% on. He also missed most of his free throws. He'll be better next time.

Also discussed here, too.

The short answer is YES. He is wearing down. Compressed schedule, carrying 2 or 3 guys around in the lane. Big minutes.

He's only Garzilla, not Superman. ;)

Knowing the kind of player that he is, they'll start falling again. He's gonna keep working through it.

These last 6 or 5 games have been a real grind, 2 to 3 bigs on Garza for the whole time, two days rest tops between games, I am betting that by the game day against Wisky he will be rested. But even yesterday he seemed real sharp passing to the open shooter, avoiding the triple team turnover. I know the scoring was down, but his defense, rebounds, blocks and assists where key down the stretch. He will climb out of it. I am betting his final stretch will be awesome.

The depth on this team has worn thin with poor play with the second unit and CJF’s injury. Increasingly Fran is having troubles trying to put out fires with different personnel groupings when things aren’t going well. Just gotta hope this doesn’t cost us down the stretch this year.

Luka, Weizy, CJ, JBo, CMac...Murry, Nunge, Joe,T.....top 8 are a handful for any team. Most teams would happy to go eight starters deep.

Luka hasn't been playing nearly as well on the offensive end as he was before February. The UM game would be the perfect time for him to break out of his funk. Playing against the big freshman should get Luka pumped up (if he really is ever not pumped)
